Product name
1% Pt as Karstedt in 1000 cS vinyl
terminated polydimethylsiloxane
Chemical formula
Pt2(1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-1,
3-divinyldisiloxane)3
This catalyst is a solution of Karstedt catalyst in 1000 cS vinyl
terminated polydimethylsiloxane. It is used to cross-link silicone
polymers in two-part RTV addition-cure silicone systems.
Karstedt catalyst promotes a quick, low temperature cure in the
formation of silicone elastomers. Johnson Matthey can provide
formulations to meet specific requirements for activity, stability
and viscosity.

Benefits
• Platinum is in the zero oxidation state with no co-ordinated
chlorides
• Karstedt catalyst is supplied in solution for easy dosing and
formulation
• High-activity Karstedt catalyst formulation promotes rapid
curing under ambient conditions in the formation of silicone
elastomers
• Cross-linking between vinylsiloxane and silyl groups is
possible at temperatures below 50°C with no by-product
formation
Shipping & Handling
Keep solutions in tightly-sealed containers, ideally under an
inert atmosphere. Store at temperatures < 30°C.
