Grayson Weeks Memorial Scholarship Purpose: The purpose of the scholarship is to identify students who have demonstrated initiative in pursuing their post high school vocation and to support them in the pursuit of their passion. Funding for the GWMS is provided by the proceeds of the annual GWM Golf Tournament. Award Components: In 2015 the GWMS will award 1 – one time scholarship valued at $5000 to a qualifying student in the Vail School District and (2) – one time scholarships valued at $2500 to a qualifying student in any accredited high school in Arizona. Award Criteria: 1. Applicant must be a current Senior in good standing enrolled in an accredited Arizona High School. 2. Weighted consideration will be given to applicants who best demonstrate a history of pursuing their passion while in high school and have a well thought out plan to achieve the necessary post high school education to reach their professional goals. 3. Consideration will only be given to applicants who have plans to attend an accredited post high school institution, but it need not be a college or university. 4. Applicant must carry a cumulative grade point average of a 3.5 or above. 5. Weighted consideration will be given to applicants who participate in school activities. Application Process: 1. Students must fill out the attached application form and a copy of high school transcript. 2. Students must submit a one-­‐page essay describing their future career path and why they are choosing to pursue that path. 3. Students must submit 2 letters of recommendation: one from a teacher/mentor and another from a member of the community. 4. Students must submit a list of all outside community services and all clubs/sports that they participated in during high school. 5. Students must include a copy of an acceptance letter to the accredited post high school institution they wish to attend. Application Deadline: All information must be submitted to the Cienega Rotary Club Foundation (Vail) and if mailed, must be post marked no later than April 30, 2015. Recipient Announcement and payment: The Cienega Rotary Club Foundation (Vail) will notify the winners on May 15, 2015. The Cienega Rotary Club Foundation (Vail), PO Box 432, Vail, AZ requires these scholarship funds awarded to the recipient be disbursed directly to an accredited college or university. These funds are non-­‐refundable to the recipient if they withdraw from the school for any reason.
