Citie Ballet Announces Next Performance
Contact: Sheri Somerville Citie Ballet – Executive Director 780-472-7774 PRESS RELEASE CITIE BALLET ANNOUNCES NEXT PERFORMANCE MOSAIC IV — VOCAL BEAT features some of Edmonton’s hottest vocal talent February 5, 2015 — Edmonton’s resident ballet company Citie Ballet will hold its next performance — Mosaic IV: Vocal Beat —on Saturday, February 28th, and Sunday, March 1st. Citie Ballet seeks to elevate dance in our city. This means doing things that haven’t been done before. And Mosaic IV promises to be a show unlike any Citie Ballet has previously mounted, featuring the addition of live vocal accompaniment. The piece centers around the performance of both Citie Ballet’s dancers and Edmonton’s a cappella group 6 Minute Warning. The sextet of singers is no stranger to large concert stages, having performed with the likes of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and Ben Folds, while also appearing as a regular showstopper at The Edmonton Singing Christmas Tree. The vocal heat of the all-male sextet combines with the velvet grace of Citie Ballet’s dancers. Together they tell the story of a small town man who travels to the big city and is aroused by the lure of a dominating woman — one whose bullish personality makes her all the more seductive. He must decide what is a greater terror: to stay with her, or to never see her again. As Citie Ballet continues to evolve, its performances continue to challenge the medium of ballet. Combining disparate genres such as ballet and hip-hop, updating ancient fables with modern interpretations, Citie Ballet seeks to inspire, and with one more performance to follow in its third season as Edmonton’s professional ballet company, it will do just that.
