Safety Act. Textbook required. ServSafe ® Manager 6th Edition can be purchased in the college store. Students must bring textbook to class.
This course will focus on GMAW and FCAW wire welding, plasma cutting, understanding welding symbols in drawings, and SMAW stainless
steel welding.

This high energy class will introduce you to the basics of many fun dances such as salsa, swing, waltz, and rumba. Wear comfortable shoes - not

Ceramics instructor, Joyce Condrey, will guide students through the processes of finishing and firing beautiful ceramic pieces.
This course is a guide to the basics of crochet: picking the right yarn and hooks, basic stitches, reading patterns, and how to put it all together.
Students should bring crochet hook (sizes H-J are best), yarn and scissors.
Through this travelogue, students will visit via media the beautiful land of Israel, known as the Holy Land (in the Old Testament).
Learn the process for crafting a personalized beer to meet your specific taste and about careers in the NC brewing industry. Class is taught by an
experienced brewer who is a member of the American Home Brewers Association and NC Brewers Guild. Must be 21 years old to take this class.

Participants will learn how to post items to sell, find items, and establish a delivery process. They will also learn how to create a pay-pal account and
find important information about a seller listing products.
Intro to Excel 2013 introduces basic spreadsheet design and development including creation, design elements, beginning formulas/functions, and
more.
Introduction to Social Media will cover Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Linked-In. Learn how each site works and gain operational proficiency in
these social media products.
Microsoft Windows 8 & Microsoft Office will provide participants with a firm understanding of how Windows 8 works, and will explore updates in
Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
FIP SPECIALTY COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
In Rope Rescue Methods for Tree Rescues, various rescue techniques will be demonstrated. Course topics include throw line techniques, line
placement, high anchor point placement, rigging setup for the rescue team and more.
The Technical Rescuer Ropes certification course will present to the Technical Rescuer the entire Rescue Technician Ropes Course including victim
management, mechanical advantage systems, anchors and more.
Hazardous Materials Chemistry details various chemical uses, and provides the student with an in-depth understanding of the chemical process and
formulas. Students must attend all 81 hours.
Hazardous Materials Specialties - These courses are new specialties branching from Level One Responder. All currently certified HAZMAT Awareness
and Operations personnel are eligible for these 3 classes.

capabilities of personal protective equipment; implement the planned response; and terminate the incident by completing reports and
documentation pertaining to PPE.
This Decontamination course will cover the knowledge and skills needed to plan and implement a response utilizing mass and technical
decontamination processes.

Utilizing NCWorks for Job Search

The Career Readiness Certificate class provides employability skills training including communication and problem solving skills. Registration fees
are waived if you are unemployed or underemployed. All students must preregister in the Continuing Education office located on the first floor of
the LeGrand Center.
Professional Résumé Development provides employability skills training to unemployed and underemployed adults. The class focuses on using
technology in the development and implementation of job search strategies, researching career and occupational information using technology, and
more.
This course provides employability skills training for unemployed and underemployed adults. The curriculum framework is based on manufacturing,
distribution and service careers. The following topics are included: employability skills, job search strategies, entry-level awareness and college
readiness.
This course provides employability training for unemployed and underemployed adults. The curriculum framework addresses: 1) assessment of
individual assets and limitations, 2) development of a positive self-concept, 3) development of employability skills, 4) development of communication
skills, 5) development of problem solving skills, 6) awareness of the impact of information technology in the workplace, and 7) workplace safety.
Success: Land Your Next Job covers the personal competencies and qualities needed to project marketability for employment. Individuals will
establish a career action plan while understanding time management, problem solving skills, change management and job search skills. Students
will learn how to assess and profile their skills, aptitudes, training, and future career interests. The class will address interpersonal skills that
teach them to effectively market themselves; creating a confident, positive self-image. There will also be a focus on how to dress for success, write
cover letters and résumés, as well as developing interviewing and networking skills.
The Utilizing NCWorks for Job Search class will focus on the importance of utilizing NCWorks (computer software and hardware) to gain
employment. Each student will develop a moderate comfort level in computer usage. Inside NCWorks, students will develop a dynamic résumé,
cover letter, and learn how to apply for positions through NCWorks online and follow-up.

EMT COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
In the AHA BLS Healthcare Provider course, healthcare professionals learn to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR to victims
of all ages, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.
The AHA Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR & AED course is a basic first aid and CPR class. Students will learn Adult CPR & AED use, adult choking, child
CPR and AED use, infant CPR and choking and universal first aid. (Not suitable for healthcare providers requiring AHA Healthcare Provider CPR
certification.)
The International Trauma Life Support - Basic & Advanced Course is accepted internationally as the standard training course for prehospital trauma
care. It's used as a state-of-the-art continuing education course, and as an essential curriculum in many paramedic, EMT and first-responder
training programs.
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and
communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is a video-based, instructor-led course that uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the
important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and
team dynamics.
Pediatric- International Trauma Life Support course continues the training of the Basic and Advanced courses with an emphasis on understanding
and responding to trauma in children.
Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) represents a comprehensive source of prehospital medical information for the emergent
care of infants and children. It will teach prehospital professionals how to better assess and manage ill or injured children.
Geriatric Education for Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) represents the most credible and complete source of prehospital medical information for
older adults.
EMT-Basic - This course introduces basic emergency medical care. Topics include preparatory, airway, patient assessment, medical emergencies,
trauma, infants and children, and operations. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to
achieve North Carolina State or National Registry EMT-Basic certification. Students must complete a reading placement test the first night of class.
Student prerequisites: High school diploma or GED. If student is under 18 years of age, he/she must be attending high school and provide a Cleveland
Community College Dual Enrollment form stating the high school he/she is attending and courses taken.
EMT-Paramedic - This course builds upon skills and assessments learned in the EMT-Basic course and transitions students to be able to provide
advanced level care. Topics include, but are not limited to, anatomy and physiology, advanced airway management, IV therapy and emergency drug
therapy, cardiology, EKG interpretation, and medical and trauma patient assessment. Students will have vast opportunities for hands on experience
in the clinical setting. Student prerequisites: currently certified as EMT-Basic (NC or National Registry); possess a high school diploma or GED; pass
an entrance exam assessing reading and math skills (must be 12-grade level); Anatomy and Physiology. A course in Anatomy and Physiology will be
offered 7-6-15 to 8-6-15 for those students who have not had the course.
EMS Basic Anatomy & Physiology covers those topics as required as pre/co-requisite for EMT –Paramedic Course entry.
