ELL Instructional Assistant/Intake Specialist (Part-Time)

Support Staff Non-Exempt ~ Range starts at $15.86 per hour
Employment & Work Schedule: 1,008 Annual Hours
Typical hours: 8:30am - 1:00pm, Monday – Thursday
4:00pm - 6:30pm, Monday and Tuesday
Purpose
Provide instructional assistance to students in the ELL Computer Lab/Classroom and conduct individual intake interviews
to enroll students in ELL classes and services.
Job Description
Instructional Assistant - ELL
 Plan and conduct instructor approved group activities.
 Provide individual tutoring using a variety of ELL methods.
 Select appropriate lab materials.
 Provide computer orientation and assist students in accessing computer programs as a learning tool.
 Track and evaluate student lab progress.
 Provide instructional assistance in the classroom under the direction of the instructor.
 Oversee ELL computer lab activities; maintain and troubleshoot computer hardware and software.
Intake - ELL
 Conduct individual intake interviews.
 Administer, evaluate, and record initial assessment/placement tests; in skill areas of Oral Communication,
Reading/Vocabulary, and Grammar/Writing. Determine initial placement in ELL classes.
 Facilitate primary and secondary goal setting.
 Complete PEP (Personal Education Plan) with the students.
 Schedule students for classes.
Other
 Assist instructor with student placement and scheduling, prepare student schedules and calendars, inform instructor of
incoming students, and maintain master class lists.
 Participate in retention and recruitment activities.
 Enroll and grade-out students in courses.
 Maintain and process information and materials related to student records in ELL.
 Provide current and past registrations/course completions and address changes.
 Maintain student information, attendance records, grading and updating files.
 Process changes to student files, including changes to classes and base files.
 Work with instructors to complete the registration and attendance records with timeliness and accuracy.
 Maintain a process to input accurate demographic and termination information for ELL.
 Order supplies and maintain textbook and software/lab inventories.
 Participate in appropriate meetings and professional development activities.

Qualifications/Training/Experience*
 High school diploma or equivalent and related associate degree or equivalent and two to three years of recent related
occupational experience.
 Must be able to plan, set goals, and motivate.
 Other qualifications include: ability to communicate and identify with limited-English proficient adults; ability to
read, write, analyze, and interpret business correspondence and procedure manuals; ability to plan for and conduct
small group instruction; and respond effectively to questions from staff, students, and the general public.
 Exemplify college values in all staff and student interactions as well as services delivered.
 Ability to maintain effective working relationships and relate successfully with staff, students, and citizens of diverse
cultural, social or educational backgrounds.
