Answers: Animals
Answers: Animals
1. Horse Riding is officially the
most dangerous sport in the
US. This includes racing and
jumping. The number of fatalities is 128 in 100 000. A lot of
horses die too. In comparison
boxing only has 1.3 deaths per
100 000. Getting on a horse
takes guts.
1. Snake: at least 50 000 deaths
per year. Every year about 2
million people are bitten by
snakes. More than 50 000 are
fatal. The Asian Cobra kills the
most people. Sri Lanka is
where snakes are most active.
1. Timber Cutter: 118 deaths in
100 000. People who cut down
trees have a high accident rate.
Most of the deaths are because
of falling trees. The death rate
for timber cutters is nearly 30
times that of the average
worker. So if you ever cut down
a tree, remember: better safe
than sorry.
2. Golf is not a dangerous game,
but a lot of older people play.
Up to 4 000 people take their
last breath on the golf course
every year. Also 5% of all
lightning-related deaths happen
on the golf course. It can be
pretty risky.
3. Rock climbing is obviously
dangerous. According to Accidents In North American Mountaineering, in the year 2000
there were 24 deaths in the US
due to rock climbing accidents.
It’s not easy to get medical help
when you are up a mountain.
Also bad weather makes it very
hazardous, causing frostbite or
hypothermia. It is an adrenaline
rush though!
4. Motorcycling has the most
most dangerous motor race in
the world, the Isle of Man TT.
The race has been going for
100 years and there have been
220 deaths! You just have to
race your bike at crazy speeds.
This is one for the daredevils!
5. Cheerleading has a lot of injuries but not so many deaths. In
the US there were more than
20 000 cheerleading injuries in
just one year. It’s more dangerous than the football games
that they cheer for. Broken legs
and spinal injuries are common. It’s not for cowards!
2. Crocodile: up to 2 000 deaths
per year. There are several
types of crocodile. The most
dangerous are saltwater crocs
which are man-eaters. Australian crocodiles will lie still then
attack suddenly, drowning you
before eating you.
3. Elephant: over 600 deaths per
year. There are three species
of elephant, the African Bush
Elephant, African Forest Elephant and the Asian Elephant.
They a very large so are dangerous. If they get scared or
angry they will stomp and hit
you with their trunk to defend
their home or children.
4. Bee: over 400 deaths per year.
The most dangerous bee is the
Africanized honey bee. This
was created by scientists in
Brazil and escaped into the
wild. They travel in groups and
attack. They will chase you for
300 meters. and will attack for
10 hours. Also some people
are allergic to beestings and
can die of shock.
5. Lion: over 250 deaths per
year. The lion is known as the
king of the jungle. It is top of
the food chain in Africa. They
are fast and strong with terrible
sharp claws. If you are attacked by a lion there is nothing you can do to stop it.
However, the most dangerous
animal in the world is the Mosquito over 2 million deaths per
year resulting from malaria infection caused by mosquito bites.

2. Fishing: 71 deaths per 100
000. Another extremely dangerous job is fishing. Deep Sea
Fishing in bad weather conditions causes most deaths.
Drowning is the number one
cause of death in the fishing
industry. Crab fishing in Alaska
is extremely dangerous
3. Pilot: 70 deaths per 100 000.
Commercial aircraft pilots rank
third. They have almost 70
deaths per 100,000 workers.
One of the biggest dangers is
weather. Pilots flying in Alaska
have the highest fatality rate of
all. During a 30-year career, an
Alaskan pilot has a one in eight
chance of being fatally injured.
4. Structural Metal Worker: 58
deaths per 100 000. The steel
workers who build our skyscrapers and bridges, died at
the rate of 58 per 100,000 in
2002, and earned an average
of about $20 per hour. Any job
you have to do up high is risky
especially if you are working
with heavy pieces of metal.
5. Driver-Sales Worker: 38
deaths per 100 000. Driversales workers are pizza delivers, vending machine fillers,
and the like.Traffic accidents
are the biggest cause of their
high fatality rate. But they are
also in danger from crime;
nearly 25% of their deaths
come from robberies and assault.
