Welcome, Girl Scouts
April 11 2015, 1-4 PM at Aspen Flying Club,
Centennial Airport.
Working with the Girl Scouts to earn a 99s Aviation
Patch is one of the ways our Chapter provides
aviation education for young girls in our community.
This year we are inviting 50 Juniors (grades 4-5) to
rotate around five stations centered around paper airplane
aerodynamics, airline history, ACT operations, weather science, and
of course actual aircraft. We are in need of volunteers to help make
this event wonderful, so please join us!
Like the idea of volunteering, but are unable to come the actual
event? We are looking for someone who is willing to donate their
resources to laminate the paper airplane instructions. We also
thought it would be nice to offer a small snack for the girls, so please
let us know if you work for a company that might be interested in
donating such a treat. As a non-profit organization, this donation
would be tax deductible.
If you have any questions (or can contribute as mentioned above)
please contact Kara Pruitt or Michelle Estevez.
We hope everyone is able to participate in this wonderful event!
Monthly Meeting Schedule APR 11

2015 ProTeam Volunteer Program Opportunity
We will need 30+volunteers to assist with the distribution
of promotional items at individual Rockies home games.
All volunteers must be over 16 years of age and are required to arrive two hours and forty-five minutes before
game time. Timeliness is a key component of volunteering
for this program. The Pro Team group will receive a donation of $500 per game for full attendance, as well as complimentary tickets for each volunteer to that day's game.
The volunteers will be provided a Colorado Rockies shirt
upon arrival and are strongly encouraged to wear it while
handing out promotional items. Responsibilities are complete upon full distribution of the item or no later than the
end of the second inning of the game.
Your group is a vital component of our game days and we
rely heavily on you to deliver superior customer service to
our fans as they come through the gates.
We have asked for game dates on May 21, August 15,
August 16 and dates in May, June and September.
I have not heard as yet what dates we will be given but
we will keep you posted. Please ask your family and
friends to help us. It is a fun time at Coors field. You can
enjoy the games or go home after our task is done.

Flying Home
You've flown away from us for now
Transcending sky and stars
That splendid smile and candid laugh
Stays with us and is ours.
A daughter, wife, and loving friend
Such a great inspiration
A teacher, leader, chairman
Filled with strong dedication.
Your funny, sunny laughter sang
Filling us with delight
That glowing smile that warmed our hearts
And gorgeous eyes so bright
You made the world a better place
Dear Deb thank God for you
You gave away such treasured gifts
To cherish our lives through.
In remembrance of Deb Price by Nancy
Sohm-graduate, Flight Without Fear student Volunteer
Once again Rocky Mountain Public Television chose Chapter
member Penny Hamilton's “Spring Junco” photograph as one
of its Spring station identifiers (RMPBS). Between programs,
selected photographs rotate with our station call letters
Please feel free to share this wonderful news and be sure to
watch RMPBS to enjoy Grand County recognition.
Spring Section Meeting in
Fayetteville, Arkansas May 14-17
The Arkansas Chapter invites you to come to
Fayetteville, AR and enjoy spring in the beautiful Ozark Mountains.
Fayetteville received the Parade magazine’s
“America’s Most Beautiful Cities” award in
2012.
Come early and enjoy the many attractions
the area has to offer.
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in
Bentonville. The Crystal Bridges is a world
class art museum that features over 400
works of art inside the museum plus outdoor
trails on 120 acres including an art trail with
sculptures. Crystal Bridges’ permanent collection spans five centuries of American masterworks ranging from the Colonial era to the current day. Artwork includes Rosie the Riveter
by Norman Rockwell and Andy Warhol’s Dolly
Parton. In addition to historical works, the Museum’s collection also showcases major works
by modern and contemporary American artists, including Georgia O’Keeffe, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience
the full scope of American art. The architecture of the building is a work of art as well. It
was designed by internationally renowned architect Moshe Safdie. Admission to the museum is free sponsored by Walmart.
We will be visiting the Sassafras Springs Winery for dinner and wine tasting and the
Fayetteville Underground Art Gallery.
Sounds like a blast!

Emergency Landing Choices
By Bob Martens
In the case when we can't safely glide to an airport,
what kind of location should we be looking for?
Any clear area without hazards or obstacles will
serve you well. You're not looking for a perfect location. Far too many times, pilots compound the
situation by trying to find the perfect location

The link below will take you to some interesting pictures of the recent Airline Displays now being displayed as one walks to the DIA "A" Concourse Security Area. DIA recently borrowed many items from
us (both United and Continental) to be used in many
of these glass display cases. If you click on the first
picture, it will be enlarged for easier viewing. To the
right of the enlarged picture you will see a (>). If you
click on that, it will take you to each enlarged picture
in the album.

Finding a suitable field without large objects or objects that will adversely affect your landing will
work very well for you. Airplanes stop pretty quickly. You know, we don't need a 5,000-foot field, but
we do need to identify what in the field may influence our landing. A big rock, a ditch or a stream
across the field will adversely affect our landing
because when we hit a solid object our airplane
comes to a sudden stop. That's where the injuries
and fatalities do occur.
As a general rule, I strongly encourage avoiding
roads due to traffic and power lines. Obviously, in
certain parts of the country, this is less applicable
than others. But I have to say at the outset, that
our emergency does not entitle us to endanger other people. In that same vein, parking lots and golf
courses where people might be present are not
ideal primary choices.
Water versus trees: my personal sense is that water is not user friendly. In most water landings, the
aircraft will not stay upright, leading to injuries and
an immediate survival situation. Tree landings with
the aircraft flown under control into the treetops are
very survivable, often with only minor or no injuries
to occupants.
