Our Community Garden The 2014 Prefects' gift to the school was a community garden that is situated in the three garden beds near the ECE entry gate. Parents and staff are encouraged to help themselves to the produce that is growing there at any time. Please feel free to pick small amounts of parsley, rosemary, mint and in time lemons, various vegetables, olives and limes. A special thank you to Mr Mudie who has been caring for the garden. If there is a family or two at Como who would like to oversee the maintenance of the garden, please see Mrs Herne. Walking School Bus Earlier this term, Room 9 conducted a survey to find out how Como Primary Students travelled to school each day. On the 22nd April (a sunny, mild day), we found out that a whopping 68% of students came to school by car. That means that there were approximately 170 cars driving in and out of the roads around Como Primary School. We think this number is too high! We are going to try to reduce our carbon footprint and increase our fitness by introducing a Walking School Bus once a week at Como Primary School. Please keep an eye out for the Parent Survey forms that will be coming home very soon PMP Roster Monday 11th May 8.45 – 10.45 Kari-Anne Stikholmen, Dale Abbott, Julie Weeks, Lyaysan Akhmadeeva, Paige Sullivan & Natascha Amos. Please ensure that you advise the school office of any changes to your contact details, ie phone numbers and address. This is particularly important in the case of an emergency or illness when the school needs to contact you. Virtues Como Cookout News Consideration What is Consideration Consideration is being thoughtful about other people and their feelings. It is thinking about how your actions affect them and caring about how they feel. It is paying attention to what other people like and don‟t like, and doing things that give them happiness. Attendance Regular attendance at school is fundamental to your child‟s learning. Consistent attendance and participation are essential for your child‟s social and academic learning. As parents or legal guardians of an enrolled child, you are responsible under the School Education Act 1999 to ensure the attendance of your child at school every day. It is important to assist your child‟s achievement and learning by making regular school attendance a priority in your child‟s life. The Department of Education‟s Student Attendance policy requires parents/guardians to provide an acceptable explanation to the school principal for any absence of their children. Principals must authorise all absences. The Act defines health, religious and cultural observances as reasonable cause for a school absence and the absence would be recorded as „authorised‟ by the principal.
