Assembly
Tomorrow the assembly will be presented by the
prefects and it will include the virtue of
Consideration. Next week‟s assembly will also be
presented by the prefects and will feature a
performance by our Junior Choir.
Our Community Garden
The 2014 Prefects' gift to the school was a
community garden that is situated in the three garden
beds near the ECE entry gate. Parents and staff are
encouraged to help themselves to the produce that is
growing there at any time. Please feel free to pick
small amounts of parsley, rosemary, mint and in
time lemons, various vegetables, olives and limes.
A special thank you to Mr Mudie who has been
caring for the garden. If there is a family or two at
Como who would like to oversee the maintenance of
the garden, please see Mrs Herne.
Walking School Bus
Earlier this term, Room 9 conducted a survey to find
out how Como Primary Students travelled to school
each day. On the 22nd April (a sunny, mild day), we
found out that a whopping 68% of students came to
school by car. That means that there were
approximately 170 cars driving in and out of the roads
around Como Primary School. We think this number is
too high! We are going to try to reduce our carbon
footprint and increase our fitness by introducing a
Walking School Bus once a week at Como Primary
School. Please keep an eye out for the Parent Survey
forms that will be coming home very soon

Consideration
What is Consideration
Consideration is being thoughtful about other people
and their feelings. It is thinking about how your
actions affect them and caring about how they feel. It
is paying attention to what other people like and don‟t
like, and doing things that give them happiness.
Attendance
Regular attendance at school is fundamental to your
child‟s learning. Consistent attendance and
participation are essential for your child‟s social and
academic learning. As parents or legal guardians of
an enrolled child, you are responsible under the
School Education Act 1999 to ensure the attendance
of your child at school every day. It is important to
assist your child‟s achievement and learning by
making regular school attendance a priority in your
child‟s life. The Department of Education‟s Student
Attendance policy requires parents/guardians to
provide an acceptable explanation to the school
principal for any absence of their children. Principals
must authorise all absences. The Act defines health,
religious and cultural observances as reasonable
cause for a school absence and the absence would be
recorded as „authorised‟ by the principal.
P&C Meeting
Next P&C Meeting is on Wednesday 13th May
2015 at 7.00pm in the Staff Room. All parents
and friends are welcome. Come along and help
continue to build our school community. Please
contact Chelsea (Secretary) on 0409 588 705 or
email [email protected] for more
information.

account openings it is still not too late to join up.

School Uniform News
Get your winter uniforms! Uniform Shop is open
8.15am – 8.45am Fridays and 2.45pm – 3.15pm
Mondays.
A BIG thank you to all
the children, parents and
staff who have been
making our “Thursday
Specials” a success!
Many students ordered and we hope you enjoyed
your lunches. We do apologise for the spilling of
anyone‟s soup orders, as there were so many and
were harder to manage than expected. This week‟s
Special was Mac and Cheese or Popcorn Chicken
and a drink. Next week‟s special will be Polony
Hash or Beef and Gravy Roll with a drink for $5.00.
On the sheet being sent home, there will be a
complete description of each item, which we promise
are both equally delicious! We are continuing our
weekly raffles, every Wednesday and Fridays, any
child (other than PP1, PP2 and Kindy) purchasing a
green menu item for lunch, will receive a ticket
stapled on to their lunch bag for the chance to win a
Hot Chocolate or Ice Cream of choice. We have also
started a $5.00 Canteen Cash give away as well, in
which the same tickets will be used on both
Wednesday and Friday. Good Luck to all! Thank
you for all the really great feedback and compliments
on the new menu, but we want to know of any
complaints or thoughts on any improvement you may
have to suggest. Many thanks, Tanya Hopper.

P&C Events
The Book Sale was a great success with over 3,500 books, 300 DVD‟s and 50 puzzles for sale. Luckily the
rainy weather held off and the crowds came! Thank you to all the volunteers we had for: book donations,
letterbox flyer and deliveries, raffle prizes and sausage sizzle coordination, coffee machine use, prior set
up, help on the day, pack away, book storage and to all those people who came and purchased books.
Overall takings on the day were $3,500. The left over books are being taken to the local markets by some
school Mums & Dads to raise even more funds for our school. We would like to especially thank Kwik
Kopy, DJL Accounting, Como IGA, Barbaro Butchers and Aussie Farmers Direct for their donations
and support.
