Have you made the connection between teacher practice and student growth? Shelley Taylor, Director of Teacher Effectiveness, at the Consortium for Educational Change, will share her expertise as we look at improving teaching and student learning in the context of collaborative structures. Teacher evaluation systems need to move from being highly compliant to those supported by communities of practice as a process for social learning. The key shift will be moving to practices and procedures where “teachers do with each other as a community of learners.” Shelley will focus on different types of assessments that empower educators, the art of reflective practice, and critical factors in the stages of change and how those should be considered when establishing policy for teacher evaluation. Establishing a Culture for Learning “Framework for Teaching Domain 2: Classroom Environment” (10:10 AM – 2:40 PM) Lori James-Gross and Amanda Hilt, Unity Point School F119 This full day session is specifically designed for early career teachers and pre-service teachers entering the teaching profession. It is aligned to the Danielson Framework and will focus on classroom management skills, induction and mentoring, and teacher evaluation for new teachers. Must be pre-registered. O’Neil Auditorium and Their Impact on a Teacher Evaluation System All Levels **Double Session (10:10-12:20)** Shelley Taylor, Consortium for Educational Change This session will continue the learning from the morning keynote by diving deeply into the three key decision points a PERA Joint Committee must consider: Assessment Criteria, Uniform Processes / Cycles and Ratings. A broad overview of these decisions will provide participants an opportunity to discuss the culture and vision any policy sets for teacher evaluation in their district. Participants should have a strong working knowledge of Administrative Rules Part 50 to benefit from this session. F109 K-12 Larry Frank, Illinois Education Association This session will provide information regarding the specifics of the State Performance Evaluation Plan based on the changes to the Illinois State Board of Education Administrative Rules Part 50. The session will focus on the state model plan as a process leading to a district produced product. The required elements of the state model plan will be outlined and the work of the Joint Committee for those elements of a performance evaluation plan on which the Joint Committee failed to reach agreement will be reviewed. Kamana, a Rwandan, shares his story and invites participants into dialogue.
