PARISH BULLETIN DEADLINE: Articles must be received by noon on Wednesdays (typed format). PRAYER TREE: 255-4600 4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER W hy call me a sheep? Why are Christ’s people called sheep? Sheep love to be together; as Christ has called us to unity. Sheep are little creatures, just as Christ’s people are little in the eyes of the world, and should be even less in their own eyes. Sheep are looked upon to be the most harmless, quiet creatures just as we should do no harm to God’s children here on earth. And then meekness of sheep reminds us of our dear Lord, who said: ‘Learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart.’ Sadly too, sheep, out of all creatures in the world, are the most apt to stray and be lost. Turn out a horse, or a dog, and they will find their way home, but a sheep wanders about; he bleats here and there, waiting to be found by the faithful shepherd. (1 John 3:1-2) Stewardship Thought: Jesus reminds us that material things, even something as basic as water, can never satisfy us for long. When we build our lives around material possessions we always want more. True satisfaction only comes when we follow Jesus. Do you want to learn more about your Catholic faith? Are you interested in joining the Catholic Church? Were you baptized Catholic, but didn’t receive the Sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation and/ or Confirmation? This Spring, our parish is offering a “Fast Track” Seminar which is specifically geared toward individuals who have a basic understanding of the Catholic Faith and would like to explore the possibility of making a formal commitment to the Church. We invite you to join us in this new venture. There is no commitment on your part to become Catholic. You may just want to come and join us to learn more about the faith of your spouse and/or children. The first session will be Sunday, May 3, at 5:00 p.m. We will meet over the course of six weeks and celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for those that are ready over the summer. For more information or to register for these sessions, please contact Tracy at the parish office at 255-4600. “AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE” The Most Reverend David D. Kagan, D.D., P.A., J.C.L., Bishop of Bismarck, has written a pastoral letter on Catholic Belief and Practice Concerning Marriage. His hope and prayer is that all will find a renewed and better understanding of our Catholic faith concerning Holy Matrimony. A copy of this can be picked up in the parish office or found on the Diocesan website at www.bismarckdiocese.com. CHURCH OF CORPUS CHRISTI Vacation Bible School is just around the corner! This year’s Vacation Bible School is called Everest. Your child will be embarking on an “icy” mountain adventure right here at Corpus Christi! The Holy Father Speaks...Reflecting on the readings from the Mass of the day, Pope Francis devoted his April 19 Regina Caeli address to the duty of each Christian to witness to Christ. At the heart of the witness, said the Pope, are three things: seeing, remembering, and recounting. Christian witness is not “cold and detached,” he said, for it changes lives. “The content of Christian testimony is not a theory, not an ideology or a complex system of precepts and prohibitions, or a moralism, but it is a message of salvation, a concrete event, or better yet a person: the risen Christ, the living and only Savior of all,” said the Pope. A personal experience of Christ, he added, is found “in prayer and in the Church” and is a journey that has “its foundation in Baptism, its nourishment in the Eucharist, its seal in Confirmation, its continuous conversion in Penance.” It is a journey, he added, that is “always guided by the Word of God.” I had no shoes and complained until I met a man who had no feet. Welcome! We thank you for choosing to worship with us today and hope that you will return often. If you do not belong to a parish, we hope you will consider the Church of Corpus Christi. You may call the parish office at 255-4600 to register. BIBLE BASICS FOR CATHOLICS (by Dr. John Bergsma) From biblical Scholar Dr. John Bergsma - two time “Teacher of the Year” from Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH - comes this fresh, fun, and authentically Catholic introduction the the “big picture” of salvation history. This overview of the Bible is based on Bergsma’s widely popular ‘Introduction to Theology’ course at the Fanciscan University of Steubenville. Bergsma combines sound theology, academic expertise, pastoral wisdom, and an endearing playfulness to draw readers into the connection between the great stories of the Bible and salvation in Jesus. “You will come to see the Bible in a whole new light, and find yourself reading it - with greater wisdom and insight - for the rest of your life.” ... Dr. Scott Hahn They can be found in the CD/bookstand in the lower gathering area. A $3.00 donation is suggested for each CD/book to help us continue this program. Marriage Moment: If you’re too busy to have a weekly date with your spouse, you may be too busy. Tonight choose several hours next weekend that you can devote just to each other. This week the wife plans what to do, next week it’s the husband’s turn. Parenting Pointer: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (John14:15) Just as God gave us commandments, healthy families have rules that help keep order and keep the peace. What are some of your family rules? Do you need any new ones? Let go of outdated ones? Discuss together.... by Susan Vogt www. SusanVogt.net. 50th Jubilee Portrait Directory Please join us as we create a once in a lifetime portrait directory that will document our 50th Jubilee celebration and allow us to identify all of our parish members at this important time in the history of our church. The dates are April 28-30, May 1-2, 12-16, June 2-6. Each family photographed receives: 1. Free Portrait Directory 2. Free 8x10 Portrait 3. No hassle opportunity to purchase additional portraits of your family. Please stop after mass to sign up for a portrait sitting. We also have online scheduling available for your convenience, or you can call the office at 255-4600 to sign up M-F (8:004:30). You can call Tracy in the parish office at 255-4600 with any questions or concerns. The 58th Annual God’s Share Appeal will begin next weekend and the hope is that all of you here will participate. Your gift will help support many important ministries and programs throughout our Diocese. The programs benefit every parish and every parishioner. Some of these programs include educating our 24 seminarians, caring for our retired priests and preparing couples for the Sacrament of Marriage. Our parish has been asked to have 100% participation. We, as a community of believers, must support Christ’s mission here on earth. Please consider a gift to the 2015 God’s Share Appeal.
