Covenant Baptist Newsletter Volume 18, Issue 6 www.covenantbaptist.cc June 2015 Dr. Steve Silvey, Pastor 4521 Liberty Highway (864) 261-3343 Anderson, SC 29621 Celebrating 18 Years of Ministry On Sunday, June 7th, Covenant will celebrate our 18th Year Church Anniversary with a cookout at Sadlers Creek State Park. We have reserved the pavilion for the day. Your family is welcome to go out any time after church that Sunday. We will eat dinner together that evening. The church will provide the hotdogs, hamburgers, buns and paper products. Please bring side dishes, trimmings, desserts and drinks. (No Evening Service) I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go into the house of the Lord." — Psalm 122:1 Greg Laurie says, "I think we sometimes approach church more from the standpoint of consumers than communers. We may think of going to church the way we think of going to a movie: What time does the movie start? At seven? Well, they roll the trailers for the first twenty minutes, so we'll get there at about seven. We'll park and grab some popcorn first. And when the movie is over, we don't want to wait for the credits to roll, so we'll get up and leave. We can have the same mentality toward church. Oh well, it's just that worship stuff at the beginning. . . . I'll get in late and maybe check my texts and e-mail while I'm waiting. Oh, and I'll leave early. But that is not the way to go to church. It is a place of worship, it is the house of God, and believers are the family of God. So we need to change the way we think about it. Worship is not the opening act; worship is prayer set to song. It is a time of communing with God". As we come to worship this Sunday, let’s come as communers, not as consumers. Brock Smith Minister of Music Children’s Director: Kim Shore Maximizing Summer Break: Trying to fill the summer months with meaningful activities that bring your family members closer to each other and to God can seem intimidating. But, summer offers great opportunities to establish practical “together time” and faith-boosting habits. Try these easy ideas to make the most of family time this summer. Use them to develop habits you can continue long after you pack away the flip-flops! Family Mission Children’s the Director: Shore Statements—At beginning ofKim summer, discuss your purpose as a family. Begin with short-term goals, letting each family member contribute. Next, brainstorm bigpicture, long-term goals. Ask: “What does our family stand for? What are our values, and how will we live them out?” Then, commit to live according to your family’s mission statement. On-the-Go Togetherness—Road trips provide family members with lots of undivided attention. Enjoy long conversations, play games, and sing along to Christian music. Pray aloud for residents of towns you pass and for road crews making repairs. The Wonder of Worship— Add variety to your routine by worshipping in different ways. Try a new style of worship, or look for places outside of church where you can spend time with God. Take children to vacation Bible school at local churches, and invite friends and neighbors to come along.
