PHARMACEUTICAL CRIME INVESTIGATIONS
This 8 hour course is provided through the Pharmaceutical Crime Investigation and Prosecution Training Program funded
through the Bureau of Justice Administration for the purpose of providing training, technical assistance, and resources to law
enforcement and prosecutorial agencies to increase the successful identification, investigation, and prosecution of drug
diversion crimes. This course is designed to provide an overview of various prescription substances, review their
symptomology, learn the Controlled Substances Act and Drug Scheduling, and discuss diversion techniques sworn law
enforcement officers will likely encounter in their duties, including investigative techniques to detect activity and apprehend
violators.

Law enforcement personnel not in uniform that are

Instructor Barry Abramowitz is the Owner and Managing Principal of Signal
94 Consulting and Training, LLC, which provides specialized law
enforcement related consulting and training. Barry has over thirty years of
law enforcement experience and is a local expert in narcotics and vice
investigations training. Having started as a Patrol Officer in the 1980s, Barry
retired as a Captain from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office in 2014. During
his tenure he commanded the Narcotics/Vice, Street Crimes, Intelligence, and
Forfeiture Units where he became a subject matter expert in prescription drug
diversion investigations. He was the President of the Florida Chapter of the
National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators for three years. He was
also the local liaison for the State Attorney, DEA, FBI, US Marshals, High
Intensity Drug Area (HITDA), and managed the Clay County Drug Task
Force. He developed a Clandestine Lab Mitigation program to combat
methamphetamine, cannabis, and synthetic drug production. Barry graduated
from Southern Illinois University with a B.S. Workforce Education and
Development and earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Management.
Additionally, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 194, and
served in the United States Coast Guard. He has earned several awards
including Officer of the Year, a Lifesaving Award, and the Medal of Honor.
Barry holds a Top Secret Security Clearance and is a Florida certified Law
Enforcement Instructor, Firearms Instructor, and Driving Instructor.
