St Mary’s Hospice
We have Community Neighbour Volunteers available now to visit in Barrow,
Dalton, Millom, Grange and Windermere areas.
If one of your patients/service users has a life-shortening diagnosis and has little
help or is lonely especially through the week then a visit from one of our Neighbours
may add a little life to that person’s day or week.
Our volunteers are all DBS-checked and trained but most of all they are just nice
people who want to help out in their local community.

Adoption of Phase 1 Development Brief Supplementary Planning Documents
(SPDs)
On 29 April 2015, South Lakeland District Council adopted the six remaining
Development Brief Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) from Phase 1 of
their programme of development briefs. These relate to land at Kendal Parks, South
of Underbarrow Road and Stainbank Green (in Kendal), South and East of
Milnthorpe, North of Kendal Road (Kirkby Lonsdale) and Croftlands (Ulverston). The
Development Briefs now form part of the Local Plan for South Lakeland outside the
Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.
The Development Briefs provide additional guidance on the application of sitespecific policies in the South Lakeland Local Plan Land Allocations Document and
other relevant Local Plan policies. They inform developers and other interested
groups of the constraints and opportunities presented by the sites and the type of
development expected or encouraged on these sites by the Local Planning Authority.
The Development Brief SPDs are material considerations when determining any
planning applications for the respective sites.
The adopted Development Brief and the Adoption Statement, Consultation
Statement and associated information for each Brief can be inspected on the
Council’s website at www.southlakeland.gov.uk/development-briefs and at the
following locations during normal opening hours:
South Lakeland House, Lowther Street, Kendal, LA9 4DL
District Council Offices, Coronation Hall, County Square, Ulverston, LA12 7LZ
Libraries in Kendal, Ulverston, Kirkby Lonsdale, Milnthorpe, Grange and Arnside
Any person aggrieved by the adoption of any of the Development Brief SPDs may
apply to the High Court for permission to apply for judicial review of the decision. Any
7
such application must be made promptly and in any event not later than 3 months
after the date on which the SPDs were adopted. For further information, visit
www.southlakeland.gov.uk/development-briefs or contact the Development Plans
team on [email protected] or 01539 793388
