2015 AUCTION ITEMS FOR PASTA SUPPER AND AUCTION
LIVE AUCTION
1. Gail McIntosh’s original drawing of the updated Pasta Supper donkey (11
x 14 inches, under glass), donated by the family of Jane Foster.
Value: priceless.
2. A sail on the Chesapeake (an overnight for two or a day sail for four) aboard
Allethaire, Chip King and Terri DiCintio’s 35-foot Erickson sloop. Tasty meals
provided. Depart from Regent Point Marina, about ten miles short of Deltaville.

3. A Richard Crozier oil painting, “Mount Chipotle, 2010” (framed, 12 x 16
inches). Dick received his M.F.A. from U.C. Davis, where he studied with
contemporary American artists Wayne Thiebaud, William T. Wiley and Roy De
Forest. He taught at the University of Virginia from 1974 to 2011 and has had
solo shows in Virginia, New York, Washington D.C. etc. etc. He describes his
work as "one picture project – a portrait of Charlottesville."

4. Head for the hills! Rebecca Quinn has donated a two-night stay at an
Asheville, NC, bed and breakfast and a private owner’s tour of the Pisgah
Brewery in nearby Black Mountain, “one of the best small breweries in western
North Carolina.” Prize includes two branded glasses and “a case of Pisgah’s
best.” A $400 value.
5. We are honored that legendary National Geographic photographer Sam Abel
has donated a slipcased, limited-edition, autographed copy of his magnum opus,
The Photographic Life, one of only a hundred in existence. This elegant book
is “an unprecedented look at the life and work of this artist's photographic
process and reveals much about the relationship between art and life.”

6. A Tim O’Kane oil painting, “Study: Satsumi Orange” (unframed, 9 ¼ x 7
inches). One of the area’s premier artists, Tim studied at VCU and has trained
himself in traditional painting methods, mixing his paints from powdered
pigments. “I began painting the still-life twenty-five years into my career. That
very first time I went for the minimalist approach, and I have stayed with it ever
since. In creating compositional designs with the objects and light, I discovered a
compelling balance between the geometric abstraction and the realistic illusion.”
Tim has exhibited widely. His work is in the collection of the Chrysler Museum of
Art in Norfolk. An $800 value. Minimum bid $400.
7. A stay in “The Captain’s Cottage” in St. Mawes, Cornwall, England.

32. “Gold Diggers,” a collage by Nancy Bruce (25 x 19 inches, framed).
Nancy is a mixed-media artist who works primarily with recycled materials,
mainly reclaimed paper collected over many years. “From afar her pieces have a
flat, muted look, but on close inspection they a rich textural surface is revealed.
She considers herself a painter of landscapes and cityscapes. The images — at
once both familiar and unpredictable — do not represent specific places, but are
her response to them.” Value: $400.
33. A Frank Walker portrait in graphite, chalk, and/or charcoal. “Working largely
from photographs, Walker’s practice of eliminating his sitter’s surroundings while
highlighting particular aspects of their visage” captures much more than the
physical person. Walker grew up on Vinegar Hill and began drawing when he
was five years old. He received his BFA from VCU in painting and printmaking
and recently retired from the UVA Hospital, where he worked as a medical
illustrator. He is a Vietnam veteran, and past themes have included veterans of
U.S. wars and scenes of slavery. He now specializes in portraiture. His work has
been shown in numerous exhibitions, most recently in 2012 at the McGuffey Art
Center, and is in numerous private collections. Value: $150
34. $125 for a radon test, or to put towards house repair, by Bob Fenwick.
For the radon test, Bob will come to your house, administer the test, and inform
you immediately of the results. The EPA classifies radon risk areas as zones 1,
2, or 3. Charlottesville and Albemarle County are in zone 2, moderate risk, but
homes with elevated levels of radon have been found in all three zones.
35. A home inspection by Blake Caravati, of Vector Construction. Selling your
home? Buying a new home? You’ll want to have it inspected so there will be no
surprises. In previous inspections, Blake has found hidden damage from a
chimney fire, copperheads in a basement, roof leaks, etc. A $300 value.
36. Two cubic yards of Panorama Paydirt’s finest compost, donated by
Steve Murray, to spruce up your yard this spring. Delivery not included but can
be arranged. A $64 value.

the spirit of the old southern kitchens. Whether it’s free range chickens from
across the mountain, hand-cleaned trout from the Shenandoah Valley, fresh
fruits and vegetables from nearby farms, or stone-ground grits from just down the
road, everything is made daily using only the freshest local available ingredients
by head chef Christian Kelly and his crew.”

SIGN-UPS
1. Line dance lessons by Leah Puryear and Amy Laufer at David Chesler’s
Charlottesville Tango studio in the Glass House, 313 Second Street S.E. Shine

2. Roulhac Toledano will host a New Orleans afternoon social (with coffee
punch and political chat) at her penthouse in The Pink Warehouse on South
Street. She is the author of more than a dozen books and at least fifty articles, as
well as a lecturer, authority on historical architecture, and artist—and a legendary
hostess. Among her best-known books are A Pattern Book of New Orleans
Architecture, National Trust Guides to Savannah and New Orleans, and a
biography of perfumer François Coty. Date and time TBA. $20.
3. A "Red, White & Bleu" wine and cheese tasting on Saturday, April 18th,
from 3 to 4 p.m., at Wine Made Simple. Come taste a selection of domestic
wines, “white and red,” and sample a variety of artisanal cheeses including a
“bleu,” donated by A. Pimento. Improve your wine tasting and evaluating skills
and expand your vocabulary for describing what you appreciate in a wine. Wine
Made Simple is located at the Townside Center next to the Shenandoah Joe
Coffee Bar. Parking is convenient and free. Joyce Watson can seat up to 20

4. A Jim Nix Bird Walk. Join our world-traveling birder Saturday, May 9th, for an
exciting morning during the height of the spring migration. Breeders are nesting
and are in full throat and finest feather. We will meet at Secluded Farm on Route
20 South at 7 a.m. Alternate date: May 10th. $20
“The first part of May is the best time for birding in Central Virginia. All of the
summer nesting species are here and singing, the spring migration is at its peak,
and we still have some of our winter visitors hanging on. We should see both
Scarlet and Summer Tanagers, Indigo Buntings, a good variety of warblers, and
hopefully Rose-breasted Grosbeaks and both Baltimore and Orchard Orioles.”
5. Plein air painting with Richard Crozier. Join the master of plein air painting
for a 3-hour painting session (date) on the University grounds. This is for the
person who has always yearned to catch that beautiful landscape in paint but has
no idea how to get started. Meeting place and a list of materials will be sent to

Pearl Island Catering is the alliance of Javier Figueroa-Ray, from Puerto Rico, a private
chef also known as the Chef with no Kitchen, and Sober Pierre of Pearl Island Foods, a

family is from Haiti; he grew up in Homestead, FL. “Catering gives us an opportunity to
