Summer Opportunities - Duval County Public Schools
We are pleased to announce Duval County Public Schools’ Summer Learning Programs for
2015. Understanding the need to ensure that students do not experience summer learning loss, the
district is committed to offering the following programs across Jacksonville:
Super Summer Academy
The Super Summer Academy is a summer learning program that offers students from Title I Schools the
opportunity to explore and strengthen their reading, math, and writing skills. Research has shown that
summer learning programs lead to improved academic achievement which creates a foundation of hope
and well-being for our students. The Super Summer Academy is a six week program (June 22nd-July31st)
that helps students maintain their academic growth, provides opportunities to be exposed to new
curriculum, and offers students many fun activities directly linked to field trips. Students who are
accepted into the Super Summer Academy will participate in exciting enrichment activities through
project based learning, art, music, and field experiences. This program has limited seats and is free of
charge. Please note that breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided along with transportation within the
host sites’ feeder patterns. The six Super Summer Academy elementary sites are Gregory Drive, Martin
L. King, Oceanway, Reynolds Lane, Rutledge Pearson, and Woodland Acres. Highlights and qualification
for the program are as follows:
The Super Summer Academy has limited availability and will only be open to rising 2nd-5th Grade

3rd Grade Recovery
Duval County Public Schools will offer 3rd Grade Recovery for students who do not pass the Florida State
Assessment. Florida Statutes provide for the use of the third-grade student portfolio as a means for
good cause promotion. In an effort to assure our 3rd grade students have every opportunity to be
promoted, 3rd Grade Recovery is offered this summer at schools across the county; feeder patterns
have been established so all 3rd graders needing the program have the opportunity to attend. The 3rd
Grade Recovery programs will be offered at Abess Park, Don Brewer, Fishwier, Greenland Pines, Hyde
Grove, Northshore, Oak Hill, and San Mateo.
Students will be identified once the Florida State Assessment data is received and district personnel will
reach out to ensure that this opportunity is provided to all students who qualify. All communication
from the Department of Education at this point reveals that the 3rd Grade assessment scores will be
released to school districts as early as the last week of May. Once eligible students are invited, the
following registration will need to be completed online. 3rd Grade recovery will be offered from 8:00
a.m.-12:00 p.m. from June 22nd –July 31st (No School on July 3rd). School sites will assist with online
registration.
