AMPL NEWS Adult Programs New! Paint Escape! At the Library Public Library newsletter Social artwork at its finest! Thursday, May 7th, 6:30-8:30 PM, $12 per person. Paint Escape is a class/program designed to start with a trendy canvas art pattern and all the supplies and after a few hours of laughter and fun, everyone will leave with a work of art that they created themselves. There will be spring inspired eats and drinks provided. Local artist extraordinaire Lora Schaunaman will be the instructor. Perfect for Mother’s Day or a special date night. Registration is full but you can call the library to be put on a waitlist at 605-626-7097. Cooking Club! This unique club will provide you with the outlet to share this love with people who have the exact same passion. The next club meeting will be Thursday, May 21st at 6:00 PM. $8 registration fee required by April 14th at the Public Library. In celebration of Cinco de Mayo the cooking club will be hosting a fiesta! Tickets still available!! BOOK CLUBS Mondays ‘R Murder: for mystery lovers. Windows 8.1 Date: Monday, May 4th Time: 1-3pm New to Windows 8? In this interactive demonstration, participants will tour the Start screen and experiment with touch gestures, live tiles, and charms. Then, the instructor will answer any questions. Bring your Windows 8 laptop. If you’re considering getting a Windows 8 machine, you’re welcome to come and watch. Registration is required. Prezi Presentations Date: Tuesday, May 5th Time: 7-8pm Tired of Powerpoint slideshows? Looking to wow people with your presentations? Learn how to make great presentations with the FREE web-based program, Prezi. Participants must already have an e-mail address to sign up for a Prezi account. Registration is required. Android vs iOS Date: Wednesday, May 6th Time: 1-2:30pm In this informational session, learn the differences between iPhone/iPad vs. Android phone/tablets. No registration required. Digital Photos Date: Tuesday, May 12th Time: 1-3pm Learn how to move pictures from your digital camera to your computer or flash drive. Participants will also learn how to upload these photos to Facebook and websites to get them printed. Required to bring: your camera with photos on it, extra batteries and camera cord. Optional to bring: laptop or flash drive. Registration is required. E-mail: Address Book Date: Thursday, May 14th Time: 1-2:30pm Learn how to add new contacts & create groups in your e-mail. Participants must already have an e-mail address. Photo Editing with Picasa Date: Monday, May 18th Time: 1-3pm Learn how to use Picasa to edit digital photos. Participants will need to have a basic understanding of how to use a computer. Bring your own laptop or use one of the library’s. Excel: Layouts Date: Tuesday, May 19th Time: 7-8:30pm Learn how to set up & save a new spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. E-mail: Attachments Date: Wednesday, May 20th Time: 1-2:30pm Learn how to send and receive attachments (such as photos & documents) in your e-mail. Registration required. Participants must already have an e-mail address. Microsoft Word: Mail Merge Date: Tuesday, May 26th Time: 1-3pm Learn how to use the Mail Merge function in Microsoft Word to easily create mailing labels, envelopes, form letters and more. Students must have attended Microsoft Word: The Basics or have equivalent skills to attend this class. Internet Basics: Web Browsers Date: Thursday, May 28th Time: 1-2:30pm Learn about Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox & Google Chrome. Summer Reading Club For The Entire Family June 1st -July 31st Get your Library Summer Reading Club Card punched and get a prize! Everyone receives an official Library Reading Club Card at the Public Library. Each time you read a book your card gets a punch/sticker. There are different punch cards for each age group; children, teens & adults. When the card is full, you can pick out a prize such as a book, book bag, gift card etc. Win prizes for reading your favorites. Audio and ebooks do count. No registration and no fee. Grades K-2 & Graces 3-5 Superheroes to the Rescue: If you’re going to be a superhero, you have to dress the part. Create your very own superhero costume to take home. Grades K-2: June 3rd Grades 3-5: July 8th Superhero Training Camp: Practice your superhero skills with games and projects. Flying lessons, protecting against evil, and undercover skills will be featured. Grades K-2: June 10th Grades 3-5: July 15th Spectacular Sidekicks: We will celebrate sidekicks, the often-overlooked heroes, with activities featuring superhero/sidekick duos. Date: Monday, June 15 th Time: 1-2:30pm Marketing with Social Media: Social media is a powerful tool for getting the word out, whether you're selling a product, promoting an event or raising awareness about something. This class will teach you to tap into the power of Facebook and other social media to get your message across. Date: Tuesday, June 23rd Time: 1-2pm Mango Languages: Explore how to use this free language learning resource. Date: Thursday, June 25 th Time: 1-2:30pm Google Calendar 101: Learn how to use Google’s online calendar for effective time management, sharing event information, invites, notifications and more. Must have email address to attend this class. Date: Monday, July 6 th Time: 1-2:30pm Ancestry Library: Discover your family history using the library’s Ancestry database.
