The aim of this course is to be fun, social and purely practical, just quality
time with a top floral designer.
You will have an opportunity to:

AFA Level 2
Floristry for beginners
Overview
A great starting point
for a career in floristry,
the course is designed to
equip you with the skills,
techniques and confidence
to make beautiful designs,
suitable for gifts, decorating
venues and tables, bridal
design and funeral and
sympathy pieces.
In the program we give
you technical instruction,
tricks of the trade, step by
step tuition with a qualified
master florist who will
support and guide you to
successfully complete the
program.
These flexible units can be
taken separately or build
into a complete stage.
You can complete
and pay for each unit
individually.
Units are spread over
10 weeks (1 day
a week) or 5 weekends
(once a month).
6 hours per day
with ½ hour break
for lunch.

Body of work covered
You will create a range of commercial designs with
the theory embedded into the lesson, this is a purely
practical course.
To achieve a full Level 2 you will need to have completed
3 units plus the exam unit and the Heart of Design unit.

Details
Designs will be inspired by current trends so that
they are commercially up to date and leading the field
in floral design.
By the end of the program we encourage you to build
a small portfolio of photos of your own designs.
Make this course work for your time and budget,
by building the units at your own pace.
As with all AFA courses Level 2 covers:
Principals of design, buying and preparing,
conditioning and costing.
Flowers are not included although we can arrange
to provide them each week for you at wholesale
prices approx. £20.00 to £30.00 per week.

certificate of completion.

Advanced floristry
Overview
This program is focused
on and developing your
design ability and
personalising your style.
It will equip you with skills,
techniques and confidence
to take on larger, more
personalised designs and
complex orders.

The Level 3 program builds on from the Level 2 and
it will formulate your identity as a floral designer.
Delving deeper into an exciting range of designs.
You will expand your understanding of influences from
top international and national designers who are setting
the scene and leading the trends.

Successful completion of this level will enable you to
continue your training on to the City and Guilds level
4 higher diploma in floristry course.
Make this course work for your time and budget,
by building the units at your own pace.
As with all AFA Courses Level 3 covers:

A-symetrical pedestal, symetrical pedestals,

Recreate design from books and magazines to

Research locations, colour and theme and make
the design accordingly. You will be required to
sketch, plan the buying list, plan mechanics,
containers and structures.

AFA Level 3
Heart of design unit
Covers design theory for Levels 2 and 3
Theory on design principles, 3 days
Allow £20.00 for flowers
In this unit we will be spending 3 days looking
at design theory and understanding how it can
influence us in floral design decisions. Through
group discussion, and practical tasks using a
range of floral and non floral material we will
explore design.
We will be merging traditional and European
design schema so that there is a seamless blend.
It will enable you to apply the skills learnt into
your floral design and help you self evaluate your
work and create new and update old designs to
give them your own flare, with the knowledge
that you understand and can implement the key
principles of design.
What we will cover over the weekend.
We will be studying colour, texture, form,
space, line and combining this with direction of
movement/ rhythm of line through design and
the mood it creates. We will explore focal areas of
dominance and where they appear in the container
i.e. origins of growth and how many you use.
Look at texture – source and create textured
squares, look at how it creates contrast or blends,
and competes with colour. Explore how colour is
formed and see the effect of lighting on colour.
Exam unit
Includes – 2 hour mock exam and 2 hour full exam
(flowers and material provided for full exam) and
an Acadamy of Floral Art certificate. You will be
asked to complete 3 pieces from the units you have
studied. Details of design for the mock and exam
will be given in advance.

Investigate proportion and scale of design – in
3:5:8, 1/3 to 2/3 direction of proportion, and
form and line in design. Taking a design from:
Decorative, Form Linear and Vegetative.
Explore balance – Symmetry and Asymmetry.

master training programme
Level 4 units which you can
select individually as part of
your personal development or
build to achieve a full City &
Guilds Level 4 Higher
Diploma qualification tailoring
the course to fit your lifestyle or
business.

Units are 2 day blocks
over 3 or 4 months.
7 hours per day
with 1 hour break
for lunch.

Once you have completed
a unit you will receive
an Acadamy of Floral Art
The units will develop your skills and knowledge in the
specific area, re inspiring, invigorating and developing
you as a leading floral designer.
If you would like to build the units into the full qualification
then you have three years in which to complete the City & Guilds
Higher Diploma qualification (this will need to include sitting the
exams). Each unit can be paid for individually all the content and
assignment/s are linked to the City & Guilds programme and you
will need to complete the whole unit before moving onto the
next unit.
What could this do for you?
Our Level 4 students have 100 per cent pass rate for this exam, they
have won Silver, Bronze and Gold medals at RHS Chelsea. Achieved
junior and senior RHS Chelsea best in show medals and silver and
Gold at RHS Hampton Court, plus won the student competition
two years running at Covent Garden Market. As well as running
successful businesses or teaching.
You will need to have completed a Level 3 floristry qualification or
had equivalent industry experience. Successful completion of stage
four will enable you to continue your training on to Level 5
Master Diploma.
Business development unit
Duration: 4 weekends
City & Guild units covered: Units 4 and 5
Create the smooth running of your business, with effective
marketing and promotion.
We will create a range of polices and procedure to ensure the
smooth running of your business, explore staff development,
incentives and recruiting. Create pricing policies to ensure pricing
for profit. Explore the customer experience in your shop and
improve or develop it to meet your customers’ requirements or
expectations. Explore sales techniques. Explore what your current
corporate brand says about you. Experiment with displays and
marketing tactics. Ensure compliance with retail legislation.
This unit has 3 assignments to complete 402 A, B and C.

Wiring and gluing designs with Design trends and events unit
botanical studies unit
City & Guild units covered: Unit 1 and 7
Clever use of wiring techniques in today’s
market, reviewing and improving all wiring skills
(including speed). Exploring how these have
been developed by leading floral designer not
only in wedding work, but other areas of floristry.
Exploring a huge range of gluing techniques using
a wide range of gluing mediums. How they can
be used in our shops in various areas of our work
including funeral and corporate design. During
this unit we will also explore the very mechanics of
our floral materials to better understand how best
it can be used and kept and look at the role planted
designs can take in enhancing the shop especially
during the quiet times.
This unit has two assignments (401 A and B)
to complete. You will need to complete the
evaluations for the practical designs you create
during this unit.
Historical look at designs in
mediums unit
Take a trip back in time to explore the styles
and techniques to find new inspiration. Tap into
periods to theme ideas and displays for event
decoration. Explore a wide range of mediums
with which we can create designs including
environmentally friendly arrangements
for consensus customers. Tap into trend for home
grown/produced products. Move vintage forward
into a different era.
This unit has one assignment (401 C) to complete.
You will need to complete the evaluations for the
practical designs you create during this unit.
This is a great unit to be able to explore a wide
range of national and international designers.
Their styles and techniques, experiment how you
can utilise these, problem solve construction of
work. Look at predicting coming trends and where
to find inspiration. Explore merchandising and
display methods to promote sales of these types
of designs. Explore large scale works and their
construction as well as themed ideas for
corporate work.
This unit has one assignment (401 D) to complete.
Design concepts and hand
tied unit
Explore design concepts to reinvigorate your
design work from source of inspirations to the
full Gregor Lersch schema. Investigate using the
schema to influence your designs, also review the
valuable elements and principles of designs to
develop the self-evaluation of your work.
This unit also expands the development of tied
designs developing concepts on from simple
hand tied bouquets to tied designs. We explore
tied work in all areas of work including funeral,
corporate and wedding. We will take a look at
emerging concepts of tied work including the
laying down bouquets and how we can push tied
work into the future.
This unit has one assignment (403 A) to complete.
Title exam unit
Price: £545 (INC VAT )
Duration: 4 days - plus additional time
with set tasks. Preparing you for the exams,
includes a mock practical and theory exam as well
as the final practical and theory exam. We will also
support you in completing and presenting your
final portfolio. Preparing your tool box for
the exam.
This unit requires you to sit the mock exams and
the final exams and you will be required to answer
practice questions and complete timed tasks to
improve your speed.

This is an exciting and prestigious nationally recognized English
floristry qualification of the highest level. It has been created to
extend and further all skills, knowledge and experience gained in
the industry and on any of the other level floristry course you
have achieved.
This course will stretch you in the highest levels of floral design,
design concepts, techniques and personal skills to enable you to
stand apart. Focusing you to create trend-setting and product leading
work and also enhancing your career potential within areas such as
management, business ownership, demonstrating and teaching.
Our course has been created to give you time to tap into your full
potential, create those catwalk designs you haven’t dared to try and
redefine your floristry with inspirational, passionate tutors there to
support and guide you during your amazing journey.

You have three years in which to complete the City & Guilds national
diploma in professional floristry qualification (this will need to
include sitting the exams).
This course requires an interview and practical assessment to enable
us to ensure suitability of the candidates.
Each unit has an assignment/s that link to the City & Guilds
programme.

How they can be used in our shops in various
areas of our work including funeral and corporate
design. During this unit we will also explore the
botanical processes that influence the uses of our
floral materials to better understand how it can be
best used to ensure the highest profitability to the
business. Study the impact of floriculture on the
environment and how these can be used to benefit
the business whilst encouraging environmentally
savvy company’s.
Take a trip around the world for styles and
technique inspiration that fire you and your
customer’s imagination. Tap into customs and
traditions that excite and enthuse sales in your
business. Trial out a wide range of mediums
with which we can create designs including
environmentally friendly arrangements for
conscientious customers. Explore trend setting
international designs for inspiration of new
thoughts on design processes, products or
techniques.
This unit has one assignment (501 C) to complete.
Design innovation, bespoke
concepts and events
Units 3 and 9
This is a great unit to be able develop design
innovation and explore influences of a wide
range of national and international designers.
Experimentation of how you can utilises these
within your business, problem solve construction
of bespoke large scale works. Look at innovative
client briefs and how these can generate original
design concepts. Explore merchandising and
display methods to promote sales of these types
of designs. Explore large scale works and their
construction as well as themed ideas for corporate
work. Develop designs until they reach their
full potential.
This unit has one assignment (501 D) to complete.
This unit has two assignments (501 A and B)
to complete. You will need to complete the
evaluations for the practical designs you create
during this unit.

Design concepts and hand
tied unit
Units 10 and 6
This unit encourages you to use, explore and
analyse a range of design concepts including
Gregor Lersch’s design schema. It give you the
opportunity to explore a range of sources of design
and identify your own design drivers enabling you
to understand your style.
This unit also expands the development of
complex tied designs and potential profitability
of these designs. We create innovative packaging
for unusual tied work including funeral, corporate
and wedding. We will take a look at emerging
concepts of what tied designs can be including the
new laying down bouquets and how we can push
tied work even further into the future.
This unit has one assignment (503 A) to complete.
Exam unit
Duration: 4 days plus additional time
with set tasks
Preparing you for the exams, includes a mock
practical and theory exam as well as the final
practical and theory exam. We will also support
you in completing and presenting your final
portfolio. Preparing your tool box for the exam. Flowers not included, please allow a
budget to put together your final portfolio.
This unit requires you to sit the mock exams and
the final exams and you will be required to answer
practice questions and complete timed tasks to
improve your speed.
