VENUES AND DATES LINK For more details of dates and venues www.academyoffloralart.com 4 AFA Level 2 Floristry for beginners Overview A great starting point for a career in floristry, the course is designed to equip you with the skills, techniques and confidence to make beautiful designs, suitable for gifts, decorating venues and tables, bridal design and funeral and sympathy pieces. In the program we give you technical instruction, tricks of the trade, step by step tuition with a qualified master florist who will support and guide you to successfully complete the program. These flexible units can be taken separately or build into a complete stage. You can complete and pay for each unit individually. Units are spread over 10 weeks (1 day a week) or 5 weekends (once a month). 6 hours per day with ½ hour break for lunch. Start 9.30am and finish at 4.00pm Body of work covered You will create a range of commercial designs with the theory embedded into the lesson, this is a purely practical course. To achieve a full Level 2 you will need to have completed 3 units plus the exam unit and the Heart of Design unit. • Presentation – Hand tied and Gift wrapping unit, • Floral arrangements unit • Funeral and sympathy unit • Wedding bridal design unit. It will equip you with skills, techniques and confidence to take on larger, more personalised designs and complex orders. You can complete and pay for each unit individually. Units are 8 lessons in blocks of 4. Either Sat/Sun or Mon/Tues (once a month). 6 hours per day with ½ hour break for lunch. Start 9.30am and finish at 4.00pm You can complete and pay for each unit individually. Body of work covered The Level 3 program builds on from the Level 2 and it will formulate your identity as a floral designer. Delving deeper into an exciting range of designs. You will expand your understanding of influences from top international and national designers who are setting the scene and leading the trends. Details Successful completion of this level will enable you to continue your training on to the City and Guilds level 4 higher diploma in floristry course. For more details of dates and venues www.academyoffloralart.com 8 AFA Level 3 Heart of design unit Covers design theory for Levels 2 and 3 Theory on design principles, 3 days Price: £225.00 (INC VAT) Allow £20.00 for flowers In this unit we will be spending 3 days looking at design theory and understanding how it can influence us in floral design decisions. Through group discussion, and practical tasks using a range of floral and non floral material we will explore design. We will be merging traditional and European design schema so that there is a seamless blend. It will enable you to apply the skills learnt into your floral design and help you self evaluate your work and create new and update old designs to give them your own flare, with the knowledge that you understand and can implement the key principles of design. What we will cover over the weekend. We will be studying colour, texture, form, space, line and combining this with direction of movement/ rhythm of line through design and the mood it creates. We will explore focal areas of dominance and where they appear in the container i.e. origins of growth and how many you use. Look at texture – source and create textured squares, look at how it creates contrast or blends, and competes with colour. Explore how colour is formed and see the effect of lighting on colour. Exam unit Price: £150.00 (INC VAT) Includes – 2 hour mock exam and 2 hour full exam (flowers and material provided for full exam) and an Acadamy of Floral Art certificate. You will be asked to complete 3 pieces from the units you have studied. Details of design for the mock and exam will be given in advance. We offer a unique way of developing your skills and knowledge with flexible access to the City & Guilds Level 4 Higher Diploma in Floristry. We have created the academy master training programme Level 4 units which you can select individually as part of your personal development or build to achieve a full City & Guilds Level 4 Higher Diploma qualification tailoring the course to fit your lifestyle or business. You can complete and pay for each unit individually. Units are 2 day blocks over 3 or 4 months. 7 hours per day with 1 hour break for lunch. Start 9.00am and finish at 5.00pm Flowers not included, please allow a budget to put together your final portfolio. Once you have completed a unit you will receive an Acadamy of Floral Art certificate of completion. The units will develop your skills and knowledge in the specific area, re inspiring, invigorating and developing you as a leading floral designer. If you would like to build the units into the full qualification then you have three years in which to complete the City & Guilds Higher Diploma qualification (this will need to include sitting the exams). Each unit can be paid for individually all the content and assignment/s are linked to the City & Guilds programme and you will need to complete the whole unit before moving onto the next unit. During this unit we will also explore the very mechanics of our floral materials to better understand how best it can be used and kept and look at the role planted designs can take in enhancing the shop especially during the quiet times. This unit has two assignments (401 A and B) to complete. You will need to complete the evaluations for the practical designs you create during this unit. Historical look at designs in mediums unit Price: £747.00 (INC VAT) Duration: 3 weekends City & Guild units covered: Units 2 and 8 Take a trip back in time to explore the styles and techniques to find new inspiration. Tap into periods to theme ideas and displays for event decoration. Explore a wide range of mediums with which we can create designs including environmentally friendly arrangements for consensus customers. Tap into trend for home grown/produced products. Move vintage forward into a different era. This unit has one assignment (401 C) to complete. You will need to complete the evaluations for the practical designs you create during this unit. Duration: 3 weekends City & Guild units covered: Units 3 and 9 This is a great unit to be able to explore a wide range of national and international designers. Their styles and techniques, experiment how you can utilise these, problem solve construction of work. Look at predicting coming trends and where to find inspiration. Explore merchandising and display methods to promote sales of these types of designs. Explore large scale works and their construction as well as themed ideas for corporate work. This unit has one assignment (401 D) to complete. You will need to complete the evaluations for the practical designs you create during this unit. Design concepts and hand tied unit Price: £747.00 (INC VAT) Duration: 3 weekends City & Guild units covered: Units 10 and 6 Explore design concepts to reinvigorate your design work from source of inspirations to the full Gregor Lersch schema. Investigate using the schema to influence your designs, also review the valuable elements and principles of designs to develop the self-evaluation of your work. This unit also expands the development of tied designs developing concepts on from simple hand tied bouquets to tied designs. We explore tied work in all areas of work including funeral, corporate and wedding. We will take a look at emerging concepts of tied work including the laying down bouquets and how we can push tied work into the future. This unit has one assignment (403 A) to complete. You will need to complete the evaluations for the practical designs you create during this unit. Title exam unit Price: £545 (INC VAT ) Duration: 4 days - plus additional time with set tasks. Preparing you for the exams, includes a mock practical and theory exam as well as the final practical and theory exam. We will also support you in completing and presenting your final portfolio. Design innovation, bespoke concepts and events Units 3 and 9 Duration: 3 weekends This is a great unit to be able develop design innovation and explore influences of a wide range of national and international designers. Experimentation of how you can utilises these within your business, problem solve construction of bespoke large scale works. Look at innovative client briefs and how these can generate original design concepts. Explore merchandising and display methods to promote sales of these types of designs. Explore large scale works and their construction as well as themed ideas for corporate work. Develop designs until they reach their full potential. This unit has one assignment (501 D) to complete. It give you the opportunity to explore a range of sources of design and identify your own design drivers enabling you to understand your style. This unit also expands the development of complex tied designs and potential profitability of these designs. We create innovative packaging for unusual tied work including funeral, corporate and wedding. We will take a look at emerging concepts of what tied designs can be including the new laying down bouquets and how we can push tied work even further into the future. This unit has one assignment (503 A) to complete. You will need to complete the evaluations for the practical designs you create during this unit.
