Good Afternoon, Jackson!
Here is the latest update on the Dig Downtown
Jackson construction project.
What you need to know:
Sidewalk areas downtown will remain open
On Thursday, the sidewalk in front of 165 W.
Michigan Ave. will be fenced off while the
building is being renovated
There are no planned service interruptions this
week
Current work:
As the Dig Downtown Jackson utility
replacement project progresses, so does work
on Michigan Ave. buildings along the Dig
Downtown work zone. The "Old Woolworths
Building" at 165 W. Michigan Ave. (next to City
Hall) is currently being renovated by Consumers
Energy and their contractor, RW Mercer, for use
as the new Jackson Innovation Center
On Thursday, the old windows in the front of the
building will be removed. This operation will
require the sidewalk in front of 165 W. Michigan
Ave. to be closed. To ensure the public's safety
during this operation, fencing will be used to
keep the area secure and free of pedestrians.
This work is scheduled to be completed in one
day
Access to downtown properties is a top priority
of the Dig Downtown Jackson project. Although
the sidewalk closure is part of Consumers
Energy's project, Dig Downtown is working to
minimize the impact. The front door to the
Edward Jones office located at 171 W. Michigan
Ave. will remain accessible from Jackson St.
City Hall and the other businesses along the
south side of Michigan Ave. will remain
accessible via a sidewalk crossing from the front
of the Blake Building to the front of City Hall
The Dig Downtown construction crew appreciates the
cooperation and coordination between RW Mercer
and Dunigan Brothers to minimize the inconvenience.
