Test of RC6.2 in CAR&HIFI 2/2015

DLS participated with the component
system RC 6.2 and was by far the best
competitor. They did not do badly
technically with the system.
As opposed to the other manufacturers
that took part in the competition with
off-the-shelf models, DLS participated
with RC 6.2. The Swedes´ loudspeaker
from the ”Reference series” represents
the affordable middle section. For as
little as 300 € you can get a nicelooking system with very robust
components.
The 16cm bass/midrange speaker rests
in a sheet metal basket, which makes it
the ultimate unit in the starting grid.
With its 100 millimeter magnet and 38
millimeter voice coil it delivers the low
bass. The cone is surrounded by a
double suspension made of rubber.
The dust cap is also made of rubber
and has therefore only a dust
protective function. The cone consists
of hard aluminum that for optical
reasons is anodized in black. This part
is built to be very stable. The tweeter
RC28 has been kept as it is. It is wellknown among the competitors, and is
surely one of the best in its price range.
RC28 is unique in the test since it is the
only one with an extra-large voice coil
(28 mm), which powers a thin cone
made out of textile. The advantage
with the membrane surface is partly
that it compensates for the lack of
connection volume – both of them
optimize the performance in the lower
frequency range. The resonance
frequency is approximately 1,4 kHz,
which is a little lower than with a 25
mm voice coil. The tweeter can be used
from about 2,5 kHz. Below this
frequency the harmonic distortion
(without crossover) is increased. Our
measurements show that the tweeter
gives off a very good result, especially
K3 that practically cannot be obtained.

is perfect in angled installations

Total low level of distortion on the subwoofer. A small K2
at frequencies below 300 Hz
• Frequency curve for subwoofer and tweeter with and without crossover
as low as it can be expected to do - considering
its flashy exterior - and shows some distortion
already in the normal tone. As with the tweeter
we are dealing with the harmless K2. The
aluminum cone still behaves acceptably. One
conspicuous property is a frequency hole of 2,5
kHz that the crossover uses.
Sound
One of the best things with DLS is without a doubt
the rendering of the bass. The system does not
have a subwoofer but the bass sound it gives off
is really very impressive. The 16 cm bass is
voluminous and very powerful and the hard
aluminum membrane gives it something a little
extra. Tonally the system is good. The highlight is
the resolution of the tweeter.
Here they have not cut down on details and the
sound is always impressive. When played a little
louder, RC gets going and you get a feeling that
the system likes it when you crank up the volume.
This rubs off on the listener. DLS can now play
even louder music and they have really succeeded
with this. Double bass drums causes no problems
and even jazz works perfectly on DLS The tweeters
are in top shape with beautiful work on the
cymbals, and also great dynamics.

The DLS voice crossover is not built up from
a bunch of various components, therefor it
has in the classic
12/12- circuit been built in first class aircored coils with thick wire.
The audio crossover starts the tweeters for real at 5 and 6,5
kHz. The level of the tweeter is pretty high and cannot be
turned down with help from the audio crossover, but only
turned up.
