SUPERANNUATION: Contributions to Superannuation, membership of the Local Government Scheme is available on appointment at the appointee’s election, or compulsory on completion of twelve (12) months service. Contributions - employee 6% of salary, employer 12% of employee’s salary. DELEGATIONS: Delegations as per the Delegations Register. EXTENT OF AUTHORITY: LGE 5 – Position works at the trade level or equivalent level. OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: The employee shall comply, so far as is practicable, with the Work Health and Safety Act, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Council’s Occupational Health and Safety Management System, Safe Work Method Statements, Policies and Procedures and shall comply with instructions given by his or her Manager and / or Supervisor in respect of the Health and Safety of themselves and the Health and Safety of other persons. PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION: KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To efficiently and effectively supervise the implementation of a wide variety of activities as directed by senior staff in respect to pest animal control. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Under the general direction from the Open Spaces Team Leader, Implement the control of feral pigs throughout the Douglas Shire. Initiate control programs such as trapping, baiting, Position Description and other management techniques that minimise the number of feral pigs present in accordance with the shires feral pig management plan and industry standards. Undertake routine Pest Control and Land Protection tasks, as allocated, in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Plan and respond to the needs of landholders and land managers, on, baiting and trapping best practice. Collect and maintain a data using Council’s Landman data system on all feral pig management activities, including pigs destroyed, baiting programs initiated and other relevant information and report this to senior staff as required. Utilise specialised equipment and knowledge in the application of Pesticides, ensuring compliance with the Health (Drugs & Poisons) Regulation 1996 and Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002 and as set out in the Vertebrate Pesticide manual. Assist Council’s Open Spaces Team leader to provide an on going bait supply for trappers and landholders undertaking the shires feral pig control program. Assist the Team Leader in promotion, education, capacity building and community engagement activities associated with the Shire’s feral pig management initiatives. Implement and adhere to council’s firearms policy. Implement and adhere to all conditions relating to Council’s group firearms licence, to which all firearms are registered and implement all processes, reporting and documentation in relation to the practice of councils possessing firearms. Assist other Government agencies in implementation of pest animal control activities. Provide technical advice to landowners relating to all aspects pest animal control. Develop work methods requirements are achieved. Communicate with staff from other Council sections and departments as required. Ensure tasks are carried out in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner, and in accordance with legislative requirements. Other duties as directed. Provide excellent customer service and to actively work to solve customer problems. Ensure all corporate information is captured within Council's business systems adhering to to ensure the quality Position Description Recordkeeping policies and procedures. SELECTION CRITERIA: Essential: Qualifications Secondary education communication skills. A current class C Drivers Licence. Front end loader Certification. The ability to obtain a permit to use Fluoro acetic Acid. Current Firearms Licence Category AB. Current White / Blue Card – General Safety Induction (Construction Industry). Current First Aid Certificate. with good writing and Knowledge, Skills & Expertise 4 wheel drive experience in off road conditions. Demonstrated ability to undertake a wide variety of physically demanding labouring tasks in a range of climatic conditions and terrains. Experience in using small plant. Have an understanding and knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety relating to out-door work activities in parks and reserves. People Oriented Skills & Attributes Ability to communicate and interact well and build relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability to supervise and motivate staff as to ensure a high standard of desired outcomes. Awareness of how to conduct ones’ self in high profile and public areas. Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment or as an individual as required. Desirable: Qualifications Cert IV Conservation & Land Management or 3 years experience in an environmental and/ or land management role. Competency in humane destruction of animals techniques Chainsaw Level I. Knowledge, Skills & Expertise Basic components of the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002 or the ability to acquire. Position Description PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: It is expected that the incumbent will: Provide a high level of support to senior staff in terms of the key duties that are required to be undertaken. Operate efficiently, effectively and ethically within the team environment. Adhere to procedures, standard operating procedures and codes of conduct, which specifically relate to the Natural Resource Management Section.
