ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
This conference will enable participants to increase knowledge necessary to improve clinical
practice in caring for patients with STEMI and cardiac arrest and ultimately improve patient
outcomes. Topics include the evolution of infarct angioplasty, ethical challenges with
termination of care – in the field or hospital, operationalizing thrombolytic therapy guidelines,
preserving left ventricular function, the impact of therapeutic hypothermia on clinical practice,
and improving the quality of in-hospital cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. Additionally,
participants will explore the patient and family’s experience following an out-of-hospital cardiac
arrest through a survivor’s success story.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses – emergency and critical care, and emergency
medical services. Other interested health care professional seeking to improve outcomes for
STEMI and cardiac arrest patients are welcome to attend.
OBJECTIVES
Evolution of Infarct Angioplasty ● Describe the history of infarct angioplasty and the
implications for today’s treatment
Celebrating Life! A Patient’s Experience ● Explore a patient’s and family experience following
an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
Ethical Challenges with Termination of Care: In the Field and Hospital ● Discuss consideration
of termination of resuscitation in the field ● Compare capabilities of emergency medical
services and the emergency department ● Discuss barriers to termination of resuscitation in
the field ● Discuss family presence during cardiac arrest care ● Discuss structured process to
support family / survivors during resuscitation and following death of patient
Operationalizing Thrombolytic Therapy Guidelines ● Discuss the implications and rationale
behind thrombolytic therapy based on current ACC/AHA guidelines
Preservation of LV Function ● Review the risks of reduced left ventricular function ● Identify
patients at risk of reduced left ventricular function ● Discuss new technologies and update to
preserve function
Therapeutic Hypothermia – An Update ● Discuss therapeutic hypothermia and the impact on
clinical practice
In-Hospital CPR – Pit Crew Training ● Discuss key concepts in CPR – Pit Crew Training ● Define
plan to implement CPR-Pit Crew Training at my organization

The fee for registrations received by April 29, 2015 is $30.00 for EMS and $45.00 for Non-EMS and
includes breaks, lunch and credit.
The fee for registrations received after April 29, 2015 is $45.00 for EMS and $60.00 for Non-EMS. No
refunds can be given after this date, but substitutions are welcome. Please register online at

Handouts will be available online only. A link to the location on our website where you can view or
print the handouts will be sent with your confirmation email one week prior to the program. Please
