PURPOSE:
This workshop will enable health care professionals to increase their knowledge
of non-pharmacologic management of challenging behaviors and improve their
clinical practice in the care of the patient with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Sessions examine the impact of structural and chemical changes on behaviors of people with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, strategies to improve
caregiver verbal and non-verbal communication responses to challenging behaviors and the 6 P’s approach to behavior management.
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
 Discuss impact of structural and chemical changes on behaviors of people
with dementia
 Identify common mistakes made in verbal and non-verbal communication
and modifications to improve responses
 Define the 6 P’s of behavior management: problem, person, possible
cause, plan, practice, pass it on
