In the 1960s the ec dicken showroom
represented a sleek line of outdoor furniture
that featured woven wrapped frames. While
in New York last spring, Chris Dicken discovered a line that reminded him of those
vintage designs from the showroom and
from his grandparents’ garden.
ec dicken is honored to introduce OASIQ
to the trade in the Dallas Design District.
Tony Peng, OASIQ Showroom Manager in
New York, helped immerse us in this line of
outdoor furnishings INSPIRED BY NATURE.
CRAFTED FOR PEOPLE.
Can you share a little bit of history behind
the OASIQ brand?
Established in 2006, our company’s roots
can be traced back to a long tradition of
craftsmanship in fine leather, sturdy metal
parts and weatherproof textiles for equestrian sports. This makes us especially qualified to meet the high demands made on

outdoor furniture. The materials we use are
guaranteed to endure the elements, as well
as to meet the high standards of comfort
and flexibility modern life sets.
What is the design philosophy behind the
brand?
OASIQ is passionate about enriching
people’s experience of outdoor living. We
believe that an appealing outdoor setting,
crafted with attention to detail, contributes
to people’s feeling of well being. Connecting people to the beauty of their surroundings is a process that begins with a keen

Phoenix Day
St. James
Floor & Table Lamp

Phoenix Day continues to work with
noted interior design firms in the San Francisco Bay Area to add distinctive lighting to
the historic line. The Redondo is the third
collection of fixtures designed by The Wiseman Group, which is recognized as one of
the top interior design firms in the world.
Based on a mid-century French design,
the Redondo Wall Bracket brings LED into
sublime reflection. This bracket is suitable
for interior or exterior use and is available in
bronze or pewter.
The St. James Floor and Table Lamps
also come from the drawing board of The
Wiseman Group for Phoenix Day. Both
lamps have an adjustable height stem and
come standard with a brass shade.
“Stone Interiors designed The Stonehenge Floor Lamp for us,” says Clarence
Calzada, Sales + Marketing Manager,
Phoenix Day. “This versatile fixture has
been described as industrial, modern, refined and transitional, so we think designers
will find many spaces where a floor lamp is
needed. The arm and barrel shade of the
Stonehenge both pivot. The fixture uses
either a MR16 Halogen or GU10 dimmable
LED lamp, so it does not get hot. Imagine it
in brass, nickel, pewter or polished metal.”
Another go anywhere fixture is the
Pin-Up Swing Arm Wall Bracket. This has
a smaller backplate than most standard
swing arm fixtures.
In 2011 Phoenix Day commissioned
designer Charles de Lisle to design four
fixtures for The Workshop Collection. The
clean spare lines and geometry found in
industrial manufacturing established The
Josef Pendant as a classic in the line.
“These fixtures are available in all of
Phoenix Day’s
standard finishes, as
well as custom finishes
and dimensions,” Clarence says.

installations all over the world. Do any of
these installs stand out for you?
New York as it’s the design capital of the
world and it’s where OASIQ was founded.
You can find our furnishings at prestigious
hotels like the Capitol Place Hotel in Washington, DC, The New York Palace Hotel,

Love on a Mission, an evening of
romance for a cause, on Saturday,
February 14. The event helped
raise money to facilitate the sourcing & delivery of much needed
medical supplies, equipment, &
procedures to a clinic in Peru.
“In the space of three years we have

well as orthopedic care.”
eye for organic patterns. For shapes that
are pleasant to behold. The simple elegance of nature’s own creations is always
the source of our inspiration. The beauty of
the patterns found in a pine cone and in the
perfection of an uncurling fern is expressed
by the golden ratio. This is always the bedrock of our approach.
Why do interior designers specify OASIQ?
Our product design is unique and quality
is outstanding, highly customizable whether
teak or metal products, and our price is
reasonable.
Is there a story behind the teak that is
used to craft your furniture?
Our teak furniture is supplied with the
wood in its natural state, in the old English
tradition. All our teak is Grad A teak. Our
furniture is crafted by skilled people who

Fresh from the Fabric Department
The Spring 2015 Collection from
Jacques Bouvet et Cie has arrived in the
fabric department with some much
anticipated outdoor fabrics.
“This collection introduces our new
outdoor solution dyed acrylic fabrics in
a wonderful array of textures, stripes
and chenilles,” Fabio Silva says. “We are
raising the bar for outdoor fabric, adding a
luxurious look with a sophisticated nature
based color palette that will enhance any
project. Designers will discover a comprehensive range of neutrals and grays, but
with splashes of colors like sea, navy and
peacock blues.”
We invite designers to peruse this new
collection from Jacques Bouvet et Cie in
the ec dicken showroom.

is delighted to
introduce Lesley
Waters as our
new sales associate in our fabric
department. 2014
was an exciting
year of change
for Lesley. She
was newly wed in
May and graduated from the University of North
Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Home
Furnishings Merchandising and a minor in
Business in August. While in school, Lesley
interned at Schumacher and comes to us
from Duralee, where she was a
sales associate.
Born in England and raised in Japan,
Indonesia and Australia before returning
to Texas, it’s no wonder that Lesley
describes her own design sensibility as
global eclectic.
Mammoth in Spa
“I like incorporating different textures and
styles with warm deep colors and vibrant
things,” she says. “ I am inspired by my
parents’ style using interesting pieces
they have collected from all over the
world in one cohesive space.”
Lesley and her husband, Chris, are currently putting their own distinctive mark
on their new home, which they share with
two little rescue dogs, Roo and Scooter.
The Effe Collection showcases their
new ‘Victoria’ fabric collection for spring
2015 on a series of decorative pillows.
Woven and printed for Effe in Spain,
the ‘Victoria’ Collection consists of 15
new patterns in ‘Effe’ spring colors, with
several coordinating color ways in each
design. The fabric is a blend of 55%
polyester and 45% cotton, making it an
excellent choice for upholstery.
“We have supplied the showroom with
completely new fabric batons and fabric
swatches.” Alice Franklin says, “and this
collection is being offered at a great new
price point as well. We are thrilled with the
quality of the fabric, as it has a woven,
textural appearance. We are pleased to
announce that we have a new cotton/linen
fabric blend coming in late spring!”

Carl Akins Co.
Carl Akins and Keith Fritz shared a
mutual admiration for each other’s work.
While Carl was perfecting his craft in
the piney woods of East Texas, Keith
was honing his in the walnut orchards of
Southern Indiana.
“Carl and I became friends at ec
dicken,” Keith Fritz explains. “We would
connect on Facebook, through emails and
on the phone, discussing current projects,
sharing advice on finishes, and exchanging
knowledge.”
While on holiday in July, Keith was
wading in the tide pools off the coastline
of Maine when he took a phone call from
Carl. “We had all hoped and prayed for
a miracle for Carl,” Keith says, “but as
Carl knew his life
was drawing to an
end, he became
burdened by the
orders he wanted
to complete. At that
time, he essentially
handed his life’s work ~
his designs, his clients and
his knowledge over to us at Keith
Fritz Fine Furniture and set up a royalty for
his wife, Melinda Akins. With the burden
lifted, he was able to focus his last weeks
with his family.”
Keith’s production manager, Caley
Lents, and his wife Yuka, who does
drafting, traveled to Big Sandy to meet
with Carl and to document and acquire
his drawings, his templates, his patterns
and his carving examples. They also
purchased all of his sample pieces to use
as replicas as they continue to craft Carl’s
furniture.
“You cannot begin to understand
another person’s work until you try to
Batavia Double Pedestal Dining Table
do it yourself,”
Keith says. “It was
a challenge for us to
complete Carl’s orders and
we have learned a great deal
in the process. Carl worked in
a unique way, so this has been a learning
curve for us trying to understand the way
he carved and finished his pieces. We
added a woodworker
just to do his carvings.
If someone owns an
original from Carl, they own a
masterpiece with hours of his skill and his
amazing spirit crafted into the wood.”
Keith and his team have already completed two of Carl’s Brighton Cradle Bases
to use with a glass top. Designers can
continue to look to Carl’s catalogue
for inspiration.
“Carl was a lay
minister and I went
to seminary to become a priest,” Keith
observes. “We both
find God in creating
beautiful things and
leading other artisans
to do the same. As we move forward crafting furniture for the Carl Akins Company,
we are keeping Carl’s legacy alive. When
we craft a piece of his furniture, we really
feel like Carl is with us.”

Momentum for Brett
Design, Inc. continues to build as
local and national
press piles up for
the fashion-forward wallpaper
and furniture
designed by
New York based
interior designer Brett
Beldock. Elle Décor, LUXE Interiors +
Designs and The Huffington Post brought
her brand to the forefront on a national
level, and locally, D Home is buzzing
about three of her wallpapers ~ Pearl
Rhinestone, Pink Peonies and Pennies on
Mylar ~ and her Hex Table and Pool Rug
for Doris Leslie Blau.
Last fall, ec dicken had the privilege of
unveiling a glamorous salon she designed
for us to showcase her new upholstered
furniture, coffee tables and back-painted
glass pieces.
“I am always attracted to highly polished furnishings,” Brett says. “I love them
mixed with dull and satin items. For my
Beth Couch, I envisioned a stainless steel
body with plush, down and feather seats
and poly-down cushions. The stainless
steel has a mirror finish, which is highly reflective, and contrasts well with Dadonville,
a hop-sack linen in oyster from Jacques
Bouvet et Cie, and pillows upholstered in
Garrett Leather.”
Brett’s clients often ask for coffee tables
with two tiers, and she delivered with her
Lapjoint Table. It is intentionally high
to be used in front of a couch or two
lounge chairs as a drinks and hors
d’oeuvres table. The second level is the
perfect place to tuck coffee table books or
magazines. The Lapjoint Table shown here
is finished in bronze and satin brass.
A Kelvin Laverne table from the 1960s
inspired the Grant Table. “Crafted of eucalyptus wood dyed blue ~ IT’S PICASSO’S
BLUE PERIOD AS A TABLE!!” Brett quips.
“It resembles the shape of a pagoda or an
upside down kayak. The trim and legs on
this piece are blackened steel, but it can
be done in nickel, lacquered black or any
brass. The eucalyptus also comes in gray,
beige and burgundy.”
The Donna Chaise is Brett’s favorite
piece in the line to date. Named after her
best friend, it’s a laid back, comfy chaise
of down and feather with a slip of stainless as a sheath holding up the front and
the back in place of legs. She chose a
striated ivory chenille from James Malone
for the upholstery. “I love this chaise,” Brett
says, “Because it reflects the floor and its
surroundings, it appears to be floating in
the space.
“The Sydney Chair is like a sports car
seat with a chic stainless sling as the arm.
I used a sheepskin for the upholstery and
Caiman leather for the pillow ~ both from
Garrett Leather. My goal was to make a
comfortable lounge chair with a simple,
modern look. The metals would be chic in
blackened steel or brass.”
Her Aunt Dorothy’s pair of Syrie
Maugham chests inspired her Syrie Cabinet. The wood top and cabriole legs were
replaced with a stainless steel top and
stainless steel pontoons, and back-painted
glass for the wooden drawer fronts. The
sides are Eucalyptus wood.
