April 19 - Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church
8:55 am Blended Worship - April 19, 2015
Prelude
Welcome - Peter Semeyn, Lead Pastor
I Serve a Risen Savior
I serve a risen Savior, he’s in the world today
I know that he is living, whatever people say
I see his hand of mercy, I hear his voice of cheer
and every time I need him he’s always near
He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way
He lives, he lives, salvation to impart
You ask me how I know he lives? He lives within my heart
Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King
The hope of all who seek him, the help of all who find
no other is so loving, so good and kind
Lift High the Cross
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim
Till all the world adore his sacred name
Come brethren, follow where our Savior trod
Our King victorious, Christ the Son of God
Led on their way by this triumphant sign
The hosts of God in conquering ranks combine
So shall our song of triumph ever be
Praise to the Crucified for victory

For you are my righteousness
I worship you, Almighty God
There is none like you

May the Mind of Christ My Savior
May the mind of Christ, my Savior, live in me from day to day
by his love and power controlling all I do and say
May the word of God dwell richly in my heart from hour to hour
so that all may see I triumph only through his power
Message: “Envy and Contentment” - Gregg DeMey, Director of Worship
James 3:16; Philippians 4:10-13
Prayer of Application
Fill Thou My Life
Fill thou my life, O Lord, my God; In every part with praise
That my whole being may proclaim thy being and thy ways
Not for the lip of praise alone, nor even the praising heart
I ask but for a life made up of praise in every part
Praise in the common things of life, it's goings out and in
Praise in each duty and each deed however small and mean
Benediction
Postlude

Prelude: God Put a Smile Upon Your Face
Welcome - Peter Semeyn, Lead Pastor
Prepare Ye the Way
Prepare ye the way, prepare ye the way of the Lord (4X)
Yeshua, you reign on high, you reign on high
Almighty God, your love is like no other
Your Love Is Strong
Heavenly Father, you always amaze me
Let your kingdom come in my world and in my life
You give me the food I need to live through the day
And forgive me as I forgive the people that wronged me
Oh, so why do I worry? Why do I freak out
God knows what I need, you know what I need
Your love is, your love is, your love is strong (3X)
The kingdom of heavens is now advancing
Invade my heart, invade this broken town
The kingdom of the heavens is buried treasure
Would you sell yourself to buy the One you’ve found
O God, there are two things you told me: That you are strong
And you love me, yes, you love me
Your love is, your love is, your love is strong (4X)
Slow Me Down
Slow me down, O Lord, slow me down
Help my heart to hear your sound
Speak into my life , Lord speak now
Slow me down, O Lord, slow me down
Clear my mind, O Lord, clear my mind
Bring me peace that I cannot find
Take my worried thoughts, break my pride
Clear my mind, O Lord, clear my mind
Wake my soul, O Lord, wake my soul
With this mess I’ve made make me whole
Of this life called mine, take control
Wake my soul, O Lord, wake my soul
Slow me down, O Lord, slow me down
Help my heart to hear your sound
Speak into my life, Lord speak now
Slow me down, O Lord, slow me down
Greetings - Lisa Capozzoli, Director of Care & Community
Sacrament of Baptism
Our Great God
Eternal God unchanging mysterious and unknown
Your boundless love, unfailing grace and mercy shown
Bright seraphim in ceaseless flight around your glorious throne
They raise their voices day and night in praise to you alone
Hallelujah, glory be to our great God (2X)
Lord, we are weak and frail, helpless in the storm
Surround us with your angels, hold us in your arms
Our cold and ruthless enemy his pleasure is our harm
Rise up, O Lord, and he will flee before our sovereign God
Let every creature in the sea and every flying bird
Let every mountain, every field and valley of the earth
Let all the moons and all the stars in all the universe
Sing praises to the living God who rules them by his Word

Closing Prayer
All I Want Is You
It Is Well With My Soul
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way
when sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul
It is well with my soul, it is well with my soul
My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin, not in part but the whole
is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul
And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight
the clouds be rolled back as a scroll
the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend
even so, it is well with my soul
Benediction

TODAY AT ELMHURST CRC
The sin of envy will be contrasted with the virtue of contentment. We are constantly noticing what
our neighbors have: cars, homes, furniture, children, toys… and we want what they have! Our “old
selves” want the vacations others take, the businesses others run, the salaries others collect, the
families they have built. Paul reminds us that God desires to enable us to “learn to be content in all
circumstances.” Read Philippians 4:10-13 to prepare for this service.
Today at the 11:05 service we celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism as Abigail Lynn Arnold,
daughter of Jennifer & John Arnold; Alexa Nicole, Kayla Marie, and Parker James Dorr, children of
Nicole & James Dorr; Harlow Paris Kooima, daughter of Katie & Dan Kooima; Samuel John
Kostelny, son of Rebecca & Daniel Kostelny; and Lydia Lyn Roemmich, daughter of Pamela &
Clark Roemmich, are baptized.
NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC
Next week's tug of war between vice and virtue pits the temptation to anger versus the Christ-like
quality of patience. Read Proverbs 29:11 and Colossians 1:9-13 to prepare. Patience is a conscious
choice, empowered by grace, that we can make when we are irritated, frustrated or find ourselves in
a difficult situation.
PEOPLE OF PRAYER
We are looking for 100 people to be "People of Prayer". This group will pray daily for the
spiritual health of our congregation and our ability to live into our vision of being God's source of
shining light and living water. This will be the sole purpose of this prayer group. By signing up
you are committing to pray in this way for the rest of 2015, and you will be sent prayer directions
on the first of every month. People of Prayer began praying on Easter, but you may sign up to
join us at any time. Register to be part of People of Prayer at elmhurstcrc.org/pop.
OUR CHURCH FAMILY
Ardy and Hank Iwema would like to thank the congregation for all the prayers, cards, and flowers
that have been sent to them since the death of Hank's father, Henry Iwema.
Peter Vanderveld passed away late last week. We extend our sympathy to the members of his family
who are members of ECRC. Children: Patty (Drew) Vlasak and Glenn (Karen) Vanderveld.
Grandchildren: Jennifer (John) Arnold; Lyndsey (Dan) Bolt; Nicole (Rick) Brown; Katie and Allison
Vanderveld; Peter (Katie) Vanderveld; Ashley, Mitchell, and Tyler Vlasak.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Today in Adult Ed: Prayer is basically practicing the presence of God. It’s less about the formal
folding of hands and more about an attitude of humility in everything we do; it’s less about talking
and more about listening; it’s less about asking/telling and more about learning and receiving.
Come join Beth Rinsema as she leads us through practices that will help us incorporate prayer into
our daily rhythm of life. (Room 204)
Mandatory Meeting for Covenant Education Plan Parents: Parents who would like to
participate in the Covenant Education Plan for the 2015-2016 school year must attend a mandatory
small group meeting, or arrange for a one-on-one meeting with an Elder and Christian Education
Committee (CEC) member. Each participating parent who is an ECRC member must have
completed a meeting by May 1. Remaining meetings will be held between the services at 10:10 am
today, as well as April 26. Meeting size is limited, so reserve your spot online at

our trip and let us be the ones to get dirty this spring! Sign up online at elmhurstcrc.org/events or in
the lobby after services. All jobs will be completed by June 7.
Our congregation has been invited to partner with Elim Christian Services (a Community
Services Team Partner) in the Chicago Triathlon on August 29-30 to raise funds for Elim's Inner
City School Kit Program. The funds provide school supplies for Elim’s HOPE Packs, given to
needy children in some of Chicago’s schools. The process of putting together the HOPE Packs
provides the adults of Elim meaningful work to complete. Consider participating in helping Elim
and Chicago’s neediest schools. Opportunities available to donate to this cause and to register
yourself or your relay team at elmhurstcrc.org/events. Questions? Contact Laura Schnyder at 708293-6509 or [email protected].
