SHOWREEL 2011 – NCCA 1011 ENRICO SELMI – VFX ARTIST Mobile: +1 416 528-7308 BREAKDOWN SHEET Email: [email protected] Website: www.enricoselmi.com Title: STILL & ALL - Designed and executed by Enrico Selmi and Kien Foong Roger Chiaw - Production Time: 12 Weeks This Master Project was a requirement for the NCCA MA Digital Effects, at the Bournemouth University. Technically speaking this project presented several challenges and required the team to collectively be responsible for the main production aspects: shooting, background plate tracking, prep and clean up work, colour correction and sky replacement, 3D assets development, lighting and rendering, compositing. I was specifically in charge for the development and implementation of the Web System and all the relative aesthetics, as well as the implementation and adaptation of the Cracking and Smoke System in the third shot. This Web System was achieved by combining Houdini particle and cloth systems. An HDA was generated, allowing for full custom settings regarding for example the emission and collision point of the web, the density, distribution and elasticity of the mesh, as well as the speed of the emission. Tools: Houdini – Nuke – PFTrack – Photoshop – After Effects | Sony EX3 – Canon 5D Mark II Title: TEAR - Designed and executed by Enrico Selmi - Production Time 6 Weeks In this solo project, after the background plate was cleaned and colour corrected, Nuke was used to track, project and back onto 3D geometries. The modeling of the character head was done in Maya, while the rigging was done in Houdini using IK - FK blending and editing bone capture regions followed by a refining stage using painting capture layers. The fluid propagation was originally a propagating selection of points that was achieved at Houdini VOP level, subnetwork of a custom generated DOP network. Here a Point Cloud VOP was queued up at each time step to access the points that had been previously scattered on the surface of the head and centered around a certain location. The lighting set up was masked into a Caustic Light to create a photon based caustic effect, while the water required working with a custom shader based on Fresnel equation. Tools: Houdini – Nuke – Maya – Photoshop | Canon 5D Mark II Title: BASED IN THE CITY - Designed and executed by a 6 person team including myself - Production Time 7 Weeks This project was part of the course curriculum for the NCCA MA Digital Effects, at the Bournemouth University. I was pipeline supervisor, which included doing prep and clean up work, colour correction and sky replacement of the background plate (shot 7, 8, 14, 15, 18, 19, 21). I also did the primary RnD for the collapsing ground happening in the final shots. I additionally modeled and textured some of the speakers in the scenes (shot 9 and 14) as well as their lighting, rendering and compositing. During this project I had the opportunity to test my teamwork skills regarding collaborative work on a VFX piece, my flexibility in jumping in on critical tasks, as well as my problem solving skills. Tools: Houdini – Nuke – PFTrack – Photoshop – Crazy Bump | Canon 5D Mark II and 550D Enrico Selmi – VFX Artist 1 Title: AQUASCAPE - Designed and executed by Enrico Selmi - Production Time 10 Weeks The goal of this solo project was to implement the underlying theory and practice utilized in all stages of Digital Effects productions. The main tasks of the project included the filming of an above water background plate for a dry to wet conversion in order to be able to create a believable underwater scene. An inorganic photo-real CG artifact was generated and animated to appear as if it were moving underwater. The final step was obtaining practical elements which were then composited to enhance the underwater effect.
