2015-2016 City of Gaylord Action Plan City Council and City Staff City of Gaylord Values Mission: Our mission is to provide high quality public services that effectively address changing citizen and community needs in an ethical and fiscally responsible manner and provide the opportunity for a high quality of life while providing a hometown atmosphere. Vision Statement: Gaylord, where small town tradition is preserved, a strong work ethic and self-reliance is valued, and a shared sense of community pride fosters great family neighborhoods, expanded business opportunities, and a healthy lifestyle for all to enjoy. 1. Excellence and quality in the delivery of services. We believe that service to the public is our reason for being and strive to deliver quality services in a highly professional and cost-effective manner. 2. Fiscal Responsibility We believe that fiscal responsibility and the prudent stewardship of public funds is essential for citizen confidence in government. 3. Ethics and Integrity We believe that ethics and integrity are the foundation blocks of public trust and confidence and that all meaningful relationships are built on these values. 4. Open and Honest Communication We believe that open and honest communication is essential for an informed and involved citizenry and to foster a positive working environment for employees. 5. Positive Relations with the Community We believe that positive relations with the community and the public we serve leads to positive, involved, and active citizens. 6. Visionary Leadership and Planning We believe that the very essence of leadership is to be visionary and to plan for the future. 7. Cooperation and Teamwork We believe that the public is best served when elected officials, departments, and employees work cooperatively as a team rather than at cross-purposes. 8. Progressive and Proactive We believe that the being progressive and proactive to opportunities and new ideas is crucial to our city’s prosperity and growth. Goal 1: To Expand and Enhance the City’s Housing Options The City of Gaylord will progressively promote a mix of housing types that serve all current and potential residents regardless of age, income level, or race. In addition, the City will actively encourage development of existing available land areas in Gaylord and explore the potential for growth outside of Gaylord’s existing boundaries. Gaylord’s downtown is paramount to the economic success of the City. The Comprehensive Plan stated “An overall design framework should be established that celebrates Gaylord’s history and small town character.” The City of Gaylord will progressively promote redevelopment of the downtown area will continue in order to spur economic growth, enhance aesthetics, and crease a sense of place. The City will also become actively engaged in delivering, communicating, and advancing current and future programs requested by the public and deemed by the Council to be in the best interest of the residents to reduce crime through police enforcement. The City will develop an awareness of and appreciation for the features that set us apart from other communities. These features include our rich history, the farming community, Michael Foods as the leader in egg production, Lake Titlow, our park system, and the Gaylord Area Aquatic Center. The City will work to inspire the community and citizens to become more actively engaged with the City’s happenings and projects. The City believes that positive relations with the community will lead to a greater Gaylord.
