Welcome to the Greatest Show on Earth!
I
t’s Opening Night! For a while it felt like the big chill of winter would never end—
things were rocky. But springtime has arrived: the sun has begun to shine with regularity, the morning birdsong is extremely loud and incredibly close, and it is time
to gather for our annual benefit. There’s something for everyone here tonight. Whether
you’ve participated in the on-line action on Bidding For Good in the hours prior to this
evening, or you’ve been saving your precious dollars for the live auction, you’re prepared
for the hope and glory of coming home with a treasure that will add a touch of class to
your home, or a week in a room with a view on the waterfront, or some other trinket
that’s been missing from your life…
Your support helps to make Falmouth Academy as good as it gets. The money we raise
tonight will ensure that the kids are all right, that each student at Falmouth Academy will
develop a beautiful mind, that the artist in every child will be honed, that our athletes
will show true grit as well as true sportsmanship in their competitions, that our computer network will stay connected. And who knows? Perhaps one of the students your
dollars support tonight will go on to discover the theory of everything that has proven so
elusive to physicists!
Many people contributed the help necessary to the success of tonight’s benefit, and they
are listed elsewhere in this program. But deserving of special mention is the Parents
Association and the Auction Committee, led by Anna “The Right Stuff ” dos Santos who
has devoted at least 127 hours to organizing Opening Night!.
Our auctioneer is John “Million Dollar Baby” Schofield of Eldred’s Auction House. A
former FA parent, John has donated his time to conduct our auction since 2000, and he
will use friendly persuasion to encourage your bids in the remains of the day. All it takes
is a few good men and women, ordinary people like ourselves, to collectively achieve extraordinary things tonight. The bidding should be fast and furious, so don’t get whiplash
while following the action. Hopefully, you won’t be spellbound watching as people sitting
at separate tables are caught up in the heat of the night and escalate into a giant bidding
war, with one winner breaking away from all the rest. And then it begins all over again.
The more, the merrier!

Checkout will commence 15 minutes after the auction closes. To check out early, complete the credit card information sheet in this program and hand it to the checkout
crew. We will not charge your credit card until we have informed you of the total due.
Terms of Sale
1) All items are sold as-is. Neither the auctioneer nor Falmouth Academy warrants any of the
items included in this auction.
2) The highest bidder recognized by the auctioneer shall be the buyer of any auction lot. In
cases of dispute, the auctioneer may re-offer the item or award the item to the buyer he deems
to be successful.
3) Some items will be sold subject to minimum bids. Should any of these items fail to reach
their minimum bids, the item will remain unsold.
4) Some items may have absentee bids, which will be executed for persons unable to attend the
auction.
5) If you have purchased items, please proceed to the checkout table before departing the gym.

the lucky winner will receive an FA fleece – just like Mr. Duffy’s.

almouth Academy offers students a rigorous yet nurturing environment, where success is the result of collaboration with dedicated
teachers, small classes, and the expectation that every student can aspire to
set high goals. Our students excel in every measurement: test scores (SAT,
AP, etc.), National Merit recognition, State Science Fair awards and college
admissions.
Yet it is in those qualities that elude measurement that our students, and our school, truly shine. Falmouth
Academy students are known as much for their kindness, their cultivation of community, their stewardship
of the environment, and their enthusiastic participation in all aspects of school life as they are for their high
achievement.
Falmouth Academy is committed to being accessible to area
families. We have a substantial aid program – currently about 45
percent of our students receive financial aid.
Our alumni like to tell their stories about what Falmouth Academy meant to them and why, like you, they support the school.
Abigail Hollander ’12, a senior at Union College said, “For six
years, I considered Falmouth Academy home. The experiences
my classmates and I had shaped us to become the intellectuals,
the athletes, the artists, and the philosophers we are today. This community gave us the power to progress. This
creative environment provided us with so much potential. I donate annually so others may discover, treasure,
and support Falmouth Academy.”
Ben Gregg ’90, Humanities Head and Director of Studies for the Walnut Hill School for the Arts, once said, “FA
still shapes the way I perceive good schools and still energizes me as a teacher. When I was in Mr. Wells’ 9th
grade history class, I thought, ‘Wow, what a cool thing to be able to do.’ I enjoyed being on the student end so
much that I thought it must be good on the other end.”
