Visiting Scholars in 2015 sponsored by the Faculty
of Creative and Critical Studies
Renowned writer Richard Kerridge is one
of the most distinguished ecocritics in
Europe today, and a highly accomplished
nature writer. He was responsible for
developing the MA in Creative Writing at
Bath Spa University, which is today one of
the leading programs in the UK. Kerridge
will be here for a week in March.
Accomplished poet/artist Roy
Miki is a Professor Emeritus in the
English Department at Simon Fraser
University, and has published widely on
contemporary Canadian literature and
on Japanese Canadian concerns. Miki
is the author of several books, his third
book of poems, Surrender (Mercury Press 2001), received
the Governor General’s Award for Poetry. Miki will be here
for a week in March.
Each Visiting Sholar will spend one week on campus
working with students and faculty, and offering a public
talk. More information on dates and activites for both
Visiting Scholars to come.

Research week
2015 marks the 10th year that UBC’s Okanagan campus showcased its research and its importance to our communities and the world
with the annual Celebrate Research week. At the FCCS Brown Bag Luncheon series, Faculty members shared their research by delivering
recent conference papers. Presenters included: Suzanne Gott, Virginie Magnat, Michael Treschow, Sean Lawrence, Greg Garrard,
Alkeksandra Dulic, Oliver Lovesey, Martin Blum, Anderson Araujo and Lisa Grekul.

Victorian Studies Association of Western Canada (VSAWC) Conference
The VSAWC, will be held in Kelowna from April 9-12, 2015 at the Manteo Lakeside Resort. This year’s conference is organized locally by
Constance Crompton and Oliver Lovesey with a number of FCCS Graduate Students assisting.

Writer in Residence
Playwright, screenwriter, performer, director, and producer Marie Clements is UBC Okanagan’s eighth annual writer-in-residence.
Clements will spend two weeks on campus from March 16 to 27 meeting with students and writers to do critiques of their written work,
select the winners of the Short Story Contest, and visit classrooms for readings of her work.
