Upcoming Events New Kids on the Block Tuesday, March 24, 4PM - Learning from Performers Presents: A Conversation with Conductor Marin Alsop. Music Director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Principal Conductor of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Marin Alsop is the recipient of Harvard University's Luise Vosgerchian Teaching Award. Alsop will participate in a public conversation moderated by Diana Sorensen, Dean of Arts and Humanities, followed by a brief ceremony honoring her with the award. Admission is free; no tickets/RSVPs required. Seating is first-come, first-served, subject to venue capacity. Harvard Faculty Club, 20 Quincy St. Wednesday, March 25, 4-5:30PM Exploring Careers in Sports: Perspectives on Diversity Beyond the Game. Want to learn first-hand from professionals of color how to navigate the sports industry and corporate world as a person of color, woman, and/or member of the BGLTQ community? If you are interested in careers in the sports industry that do not involve simply passing a ball or hitting a home run, this workshop is for you. Administrative roles in the sports industry are tough to land, and for professionals of color, women, and/or members of the BGLTQ community the challenges can be more pronounced. Come learn how to navigate the sports industry, find out where the job opportunities are, and discover key strategies to help you break into the field and be successful while holding on to your integrity and values. Panelists will discuss topics surrounding professional appearance, dealing with biases, salary negotiation, networking, maintaining integrity, and additional key issues that professionals from marginalized groups face in the sports industry and corporate world. The Harvard Square Homeless Shelter (HSHS), in conjunction with PBHA, is hosting a benefit concert for our soon-to-bebuilt homeless shelter for youth. The festival-like event will feature several performances by bands, solo artists, and a saxophone player. Tickets are available at the Harvard Box Office. SOCH Event Hall, 59 Shepard St. The Class of 2018 gathered on Housing Day Eve to enjoy a hypnotist, carnival-style food, and much more planned by their classmates on the FYSC. Undergraduate Mentors have the opportunity to make a critical difference in the lives of Allston students, grades 1 through 12, by sharing their passion for math, science, writing, computer technology, and the arts. Haven’t taken advantage of your free admission to explore the brand new art museums? Student-led tours are offered on Tuesdays and Fridays at 2PM, and Saturdays and Sundays at 11AM, through April 28. Tours are limited to 15 people; no registration is required, but tours are available on a first-come, firstserved basis.
