begin your search about two (2) months before you plan to move. If you need to move in September, June or early July is a good
month to begin looking. The information listed is also subject to change or rate increases, please call rental offices for current prices

Office (410-576-6500) to order a free copy of Landlords and Tenants: Tips on avoiding disputes. This booklet clearly spells out
what your rights are and will give you the information you need to insure that you are treated fairly and your landlord complies with
current Maryland housing laws. This book is a must read for new arrivals, 1st time and seasoned renters.
BEFORE YOU START
Can’t live without a dishwasher or being able to walk to campus? Bring a list of what is important to you when you view your apartments. You may not find everything you were looking for but it is good to set priorities. The Homewood Off Campus Housing office has a sample checklist available for all hunters.
DURING THE SEARCH
Try to visit the space during daylight. You will get a sense of how much light the rooms get and the shape the unit is in.
The best time to ask about repairs and improvements is before you commit. Attach a list of any damages to the lease, and have it
initialed by your landlord so you will not be held responsible later.
Ask yourself: How is the water pressure? How many outlets are there and where are they placed? How big is the water heater? Is
there enough closet space or will you need additional storage? Be sure to carefully consider each apartment you view. One year can
be a very long time if you have cold showers every morning!
