The Lineage of David Haragan and Christiana O`Hearn
The Lineage of David Haragan and Christiana O’Hearn
Summary
Although there aren’t conclusive primary records, the DNA project believes
this ancestral couple were from Garryvoe, a parish in Middleton, Cork. In
records, the surname has been recorded as Horrigan, Harragan, and Haragan.
David and Christiana married about 1819. Their first two sons were born in
Cork. Records for their marriage or these two baptisms have not been located.
The project believes that such records would have fallen into the jurisdiction
of the R.C. parish of Ballymacoda & Ladysbridge, but church records for this
parish are not available until starting 1835/6.
The family eventually settled in Caledon, Peel, Ontario.

The prospective DNA testing family has believed for some 20 years that
Christiana’s tombstone gives a birth location of Garryborough. We are
assuming that “Garryborough” is a gross spelling of Garryvoe. The parish has
historically been called Garraí Bhoithe and Garribwogh. The area of Middleton
has been the home of Horrigans and Aherns.
