Frontier Academy Newsletter May 18, 2015 2014-2015 Elementary Yearbooks are coming this week! They will be delivered to students on Field Day. There will be extras to purchase that day if you didn't order one. ALSO - the K3 office has 2013-2014 yearbooks for sale for a discounted rate of $15. Stop by and purchase last year's yearbook for your child! They'll love it! Staff Appreciation week was a HUGE success and the staff and teachers enjoyed all of the yummy treats and events!!! Thank you again for all of your support and helping to show our staff and teachers how much they really mean to us! ELEMENTARY PARENTS, ENROLLMENT INFORMATION!! We did not send a Intent to Return Form out this year. Your current Frontier Academy student will automatically be enrolled for the 2015-‐2016 school year and you do not need to do anything further. THANK YOU! Attention Middle School Parents: If your child is interested in playing Middle School Soccer (Both boys and girls) please attend an informational meeting Tuesday May 19, 5 pm. We will be participating in a fundraiser this summer that could earn $500 for each team. If you cannot attend and would like to be added to the email list for updates this summer please email Miss Shepperd. ([email protected]) Congratulations to the high school girls soccer team for being regional champions for the fourth year in a row. They earned the sixth seed for state playoffs. Best of luck Wolverines!! The May Board Meeting was highly attended with over 85 in attendance. We actually had to move the meeting to the HS gym! Had two great “Show and Tells” – MS Academic Pentathlon with Max Noffsinger representing his team as well as Mr. Pfost representing the product of the CAD class at the high school. - On-going discussions with University Schools about Joint Use facilities Please come support our 67 graduates this year on May 23rd at 10AM at the UNC Garden Theater and come be a part of Frontier’s tradition Discussed trying to make “Back to School” nights at the Elementary preparedness better and more efficient for our parents. Adding booths to the New Parent Orientation to explain the Extra-Curricular activities. Recommended that this be discussed further in the Elementary OPT. For the Secondary, discussed improving disseminating information to the Clubs, Sports and Extracurricular Activities at Registration. Recommending reviewing the location of the booths as well as providing comprehensive lists of all activities offered. Extensively discussed reading and language curriculum proposal with teachers and parents present. This will be voted on at the June board meeting THE NEXT EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING IS THURSDAY, JUNE 4, 2015, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LIBRARY. Need Volunteer Hours? Want to get a jumpstart for next year? Congratulations to nine new National Honor Society members who were inducted into NHS at a swearing-in and candle-light ceremony at Farr Library on Tuesday, May 5. Our newest members are Connor Clancy, Emily Long, Areni Merry, Annika Miller, Breanna Olson, John Palmer, Emma Sears, Molly Sears, and Halie Spaur. NHS members are chosen for their academics, integrity, service and leadership. The Klatch Club will return Middle School Parents: beginning Thursday, August 21. 8th through 12th graders are encouraged to bring creative work to share! The club has voted on monthly topics for the 2015-16 school year. You can interpret each topic any way you want! Possible genres include all types of artwork, poetry, short stories, a rant, you name it! Remember, a "klatch" is an informal gathering. Get feedback on your work, or just share it! Come when you can! The club code on Google Classroom is: gw3iex. Here's a list of monthly topics: Don't forget to order your supply kits! Order by May 31st and you won't pay shipping and handling charges AND your student's kit will be delivered to the secondary building! Orders can still be placed through July 24th, however the kits will be shipped to your home and there will be a minimal S&H charge. This summer Frontier students will participate in the High Plains Library District’s (HPLD) “Summer Reading Adventure” program. You must visit a HPLD branch library or Outreach (2650 W . 29th St.) to sign up. More information can b e found at http://www.mylibrary.us/events/hot-‐topics/my-‐ summer-‐adventure. Your local library will have lists of suggested books at appropriate grade and lexile levels. The librarians will be happy to help find books you will enjoy. You are required to print and bring the completed reading log OR the Frontier Academy Summer Reading form (if you turn in logs for prizes) to your Language Arts teacher the first week of school in August. Note: It is your responsibility to print reading logs or have a librarian sign your form. Teachers will not print logs or accept unsigned forms or other documentation, including notes from parents. * 6th Grade : Y ou may count Flying Solo by Ralph Fletcher towards the hours for your summer reading log. Please keep and bring your copy of the book to school, as we will be discussing it in class. * Students enrolled in AP Literature or AP Language are exempt from this assignment. Frontier Academy Cross Country Second Annual Peach Fundraiser Hi everyone~ hope you are ready for summer & yummy peaches! The Frontier Academy Cross Country Team is selling 25 pound boxes of peaches from Talbott's Farms in Western Colorado again! Each box of peaches cost $35. You will be responsible to pay & pick up for each box you order. Orders will be picked up at Frontier Academy Secondary school in the cafeteria/east side of building. We will have 2 different shipments this year. July peaches will be delivered around July 10 with a deadline to order of June 26. August peaches will be delivered around August 21 with a deadline to order of August 10.
