Introduction Requirements Installation Compatibility & Patches Features Getting Started Crafting System The Store Customisation Basement Mail Box Recruiting Staff Realistic Construction Exterior Crafting Travel Boat Keys to The Estate Meadery Auto-Sort Unique Displays Credits Feedback Troubleshooting I Introduction Mörskom Estate is a large player home located in the harsh lands of The Pale in the city of Dawnstar. Mörskom is not simply just another house for the player to live in. This house is going to be a sort of personal project for the Dragonborn to take on during his or her adventure. Over time, the Dragonborn will have to take this old worn down house and rebuild it into a home to be proud of. The mod works using a system similar to Hearthfire but it’s a little simpler and has some more immersive features such as time passing. You will use a workbench inside of the home to craft furniture and perform other task. There is also a store where you can buy different items to decorate your home. Mörskom is focused around giving the player a lot of choice in how their home looks. There are a number of personalisation options in the home, from changing the colour of the drapes, to the background music you hear as you marvel at your display room full of treasures. The mod comes with a wide range of features to keep you occupied which makes Mörskom a place you will want to keep on coming back to. II Requirements The first thing to understand is that Mörskom is a very ambitious project and it may require a fairly good spec machine to run. The other thing to keep in mind is that this mod has a lot of scripts, some of which can run for a few game hours until they cut off. This means that you need to be aware of how many mods you have installed and the amount of memory your current mods are using up. Further information on issues can be found in the troubleshooting section. If you go ahead and decide to install the mod, you are going to need all of the Skyrim DLC which includes Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn. This is because the house takes advantage of unique items, systems and furniture pieces from all of these expansions. To use the mod’s MCM system you will need to install SKSE and be using SkyUI. However, you can have the MCM without SkyUI so be sure to check out Gopher’s video on setting this up. To use the family support feature for this mod, you are going to need to install Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions Mod. Further details on how this mod works can be found on the mod page. III Installation As always, the easiest method to download a mod is by using the “Install with NMM” option. You simply wait for the download to finish and activate it in Nexus Mod Manager. There is now a program called Mod Organizer that many people, including myself, have decided to transfer over to. This is a little more advanced than NMM but it gives you much more control over your mods. You can watch Gopher’s tutorials on this tool if it sounds like something you might want to try. Since version 1.2 of Mörskom, the mod’s file structure has been changed to work better with both NMM and Mod Organizer so that there are very few problems during the installation process. Mörskom comes in a BSA format and there is a good reason for this. The mod is heavily scripted and although it might look like a small mod, it’s not. There are a lot of resources included with the mod and a lot of scripts. The mod will run smoother in this format and it’s not recommended that you unpack the BSA and install loose. You can do this at your own risk. Also, do not worry about conflicts regarding the resources as these are packed in the BSA and will not overwrite anything. The fact that Mörskom is in BSA form means that manual installation is fairly simple. Simply drag and drop the files into the data folder and activate the mod in your mod manager of choose. IV INSTALLATION CONTINUED We recommend that you use a program like LOOT to sort your load order after installing Mörskom. If you decide to do this manually, be sure that Mörskom is placed fairly low down your load order to reduce any conflicts with other mods. Mörskom also comes with a wide range of patches for popular mods like ETAC and Climates of Tamriel, so be sure to install those if you have any of those mods. It is recommended that you do not have this mod enabled until after you escape Helgen when starting a new game. This is due to the way that the intro video may interrupt the main game’s intro. The other option is to simply delete the bink video from the Mörskom files to prevent the intro from showing. V Compatibility & Patches Mörskom will most likely not be compatible with any mods which edit to same location in Dawnstar where the house is located. However, a patch has been created for the popular mod Expanded Towns and Cities. Do be aware that this patch means that the player home from ETAC will no longer be accessible. For the sauna outside of the home there is a script to prevent the rain and snow from getting inside. If you use Climates of Tamriel, you will need to download the patch for it to include CoT weathers too. There have also been a number of sleep mod patches created for the main bed in Mörskom Estate. This allows you to have the animations for sleep play inside of the home. The mod Simple Taxes should be automatically compatible with Mörskom as it does increase the number of houses owned by the player once you purchase it. There are also a few built in patches for mods like Frostfall and NSUR which can be enabled and disabled manually. VI Features The following are all of the mod’s main features. Many of these can be turned off using the MCM system if you decide you do not want to use them or you have trouble with using them. Some features are explained in more detail later on in the guide. Auto-Close Doors – When enabled in the mod menu, doors will close after 5 seconds behind you. This also works for any NPCs who use the doors Auto-Sort – This system will allow the player to place any items they wish to store in their home into a single container. The auto-sort container will then distribute the items placed inside across the house into relevant locations. Bathing – In Mörskom you will be able to fill your own bath tub or even use your outdoor hot tub and sauna room. You receive different buffs for using them, in case the ability to just sit in them wasn’t enough for you. Boat Travel – The player will be able to craft their own boat and travel to some of the major cities with docks. Customisation – As explained in the introduction, you will have a lot of choice in Mörskom including changing the colours of things and other settings throughout the mod. VII FEATURES CONTINUED Dynamic Interiors – This option will change the placement of some items in the house depending on the time of day. This includes making the lighting coming from windows dim during the evening or having the dinner table full of food during meal times. Family Support – This house support Hearthfire families, however be sure to follow the compatibly section on it. Hearthfire Planters – You have some planters in the Laboratory to grow your own plants. Immersive Storage – When items are placed into containers throughout the house, this feature will check to see if the item in question should logically go there. For example; a large axe cannot fit into a small strongbox. Mail Box – The Dragonborn will receive mail once per day which can include things like gifts or letters from friends. Meadery – In Mörskom you can create your own beverages once you have fixed up the meadery. There are some vanilla game items along with some new beverages to create. Realistic Construction – This option is turned on by default, and it makes crafting more realistic. Rebuilding your home will require smithing skill and a lot of materials. Recruits – You will be able to hire recruits into your home to perform different tasks and unlock other features of the mod. This includes a cook and groundsman, but you can also request a guard if you are the thane. VIII FEATURES CONTINUED Season Mode – This will allow the player to place Christmas decorations around the house and also to the exterior. COMING SOON Unique Displays –You will be able to place your unique weapons and quest items from your journeys through Skyrim. IX Getting Started Mörskom can be a confusing mod, especially when it comes to the crafting system for the home. The first thing you need to purchase is the building itself. This can be done by finding the house which is located in Dawnstar up on a hill in between two mountains, you really can’t miss it. Once you arrive, you will notice a sign post to your left which will allow you to pay 7500 septims for the property. After doing so, you should receive the keys to the house which can be activated in your inventory to relock the doors, but you don’t need to worry about that now. Once you purchase the home, the game will also notify you of Oceanside Supply which is the new store added into Dawnstar. You can find the store at the bottom of the steps leading up to Mörskom on the right hand side looking towards the steps. Oceanside Supply will now sell a number of item which you can purchase for the interior of your home, however it’s strongly recommended you head on inside before you do anything else and take a look around. X Crafting System Like Hearthfire, there is a carpenter’s workbench which can be found in the forge room or workshop, depending on what you want to call it. However, you cannot use the bench until you have purchased the crafting tools for it. If you head to Oceanside Supply, Moira will have some for sale which will then enable you to start work on your house. As long as you think logically with the crafting system, it should make sense. Some items will only become available once you have crafted another item or performed some other tasks. For example, the flooring can only be done once the dirty floors have been cleaned, and that can only be done once you have lit the candles throughout the home. It makes sense that you need to be able to see what you’re doing. To clean the home of all the dirt and dust, you can use the broom next to the bench. If you find you cannot craft much at all, this is most likely due to Realistic Construction being on which is explained under the features list. You can turn this off to have an easier experience with crafting or keep it on for immersion. If you would like a list of smithing level requirements for items, visit the Realistic Construction section of this guide. XI CRAFTING SYSTEM CONTINUED When you craft an item there is a short transition into black with a message on how much time has passed. Although this is a very nice feature, some may find it distracting or it may even break the immersion for some. You can turn this off in the MCM by selecting the Time Screens option. This also turns these transitions off on other actions throughout the mod. On the subject of time; each item in the crafting list will have number in brackets which indicates the amount of hours that will pass. XII The Store Once you have built your home up a little, you can go ahead and furnish the home with some decorative items and other customisation options. If you visit Oceanside Supply you will find that Moira has a number of items, from lanterns to the bathroom to rugs for your home. Some items will be actual equipment while others will serve no purpose other than to decorate the house a little. You simply purchase an item like any other, but instead of it going into your inventory, it will go straight into your home. Some items will have number next to them for the number of hours it will take for that item to be delivered to your home. There are also a number of items that require you to have crafted certain furniture. If you purchase the item first, it will be held back and placed in your home once you craft the required item. You may notice the fire salt jars that you can purchase in Moira’s shop. Each jar gives you 10 fire salts for you to light the fires around the estate. You simply activate these in your inventory to open the jars. XIII Customisation The one thing which makes Mörskom stand out from a lot of other player homes is the customisation choices that the player has. Below are a list of customisation choices you have and how to use them. Banners – These can be changed via the MCM system and the changes will take effect immediately. More banner choices may be added in the future. Bed Covers – Once you purchase the different covers available from the store and craft the beds, you will be able to open two cupboards and change the bed colours. Drapes – These can also be purchased from the store and found under the stairs at the rear of the house. This will change the drape colours all over the house, apart from the standard drapes on the bed. Rugs – Once you purchase the rugs from the store, you will have the option to change the colour of the rugs around the home in three locations. There is a large rug pile under the stairs at the rear of the house which changes upstairs and downstairs at the rear half of the home. You then have rugs available in the master bedroom to change the rugs on that floor. To select those, you simply use the prompt on the ladder leading up to them. XIV CUSTOMISATION CONTINUED MCM Image – The MCM system comes with an image which shows when you open the menu to make changes. Although this doesn’t add anything to the home, it’s a nice additional thing to have control of and changing it can keep the mod menu feeling fresh and interesting to use. By default this is set to random which cycles through a total of 12 images. You can also set it to standard or even choose from one of the 12 images to have on there at all times. This is controlled in the MCM itself and will require you to exit and re-enter the menu to see the changes take effect. Music – One of the last features added to the mod was the ability to change the music that plays in the background while you are inside of Mörskom Estate. We have added a number of fresh tracks by different composers, as well as some selection for default game tracks. Like the MCM image, this helps to keep the mod a little more fresh. This also gives you more control over the mod’s soundtrack. Notifications – By default, when you enter your home you will receive a number of different notifications for things like the mail box. These are reminders and also nice additional messages which show in the top left of the screen. Some people may find these to be annoying so you can toggle them on or off, again using the MCM system. XV CUSTOMISATION CONTINUED Pillows – You may notice some pillows on the bed after you have crafted it. These can be removed by simply activating them. They will be stored in the cupboard near the door along with the bed sheets that you have purchased. Statue – In the living room you will find a statue pedestal similar to those found in Hearthfire. Ours fits into the home better though and also has the added ability to change the statues after you have placed it down. This means that your statue of choice will not be final. Wall Mounts – In the living room above the fireplace is a wall mount that can be crafted using the workbench. This will allow you to select from a number of different animals to have on the wall. Once you craft one, it will not require any materials to craft again if you replace it. XVI The Basement At this point, you are aware that you must craft items for your home and purchase decorative items and other equipment from Oceanside Supply, however there is one other location you must visit. Mörskom Estate has a basement where you will be able to house your recruits and run a small meadery setup. You must first however unpack a number of items which can be found covered with cobwebs down there. These items are a workbench for the forge room, staff enchanter for the lab and a bunch of alchemy and enchanter equipment. You can simply activate each item to take them upstairs into the main section of the house. The alchemy and enchanter equipment can only be activated once you craft the lab worktops. When you first enter the basement however, you will notice that a number of skeevers have made it their home. You will need to kill them and make sure the message popup appears stating that they have been dealt with. If for some reason this doesn’t happen, you will need to reload a save and try again. Once the basement is empty, you will be able to craft recruit accommodation if all other requirements have been met. Check the recruits section for more details. XVII Mail Box The mail box is a crucial part of Mörskom Estate. This is because it controls a lot of the mod features on a single running script. This is also why you need to keep an eye on the amount of scripts your game is running. With that said, it’s not a continuous script so it shouldn’t bloat your game save at all as it always ends at some stage. However, if you are considering uninstalling the mod, you may want to let the mail box script end first. When you first purchase the home, you will be informed that you should check the mail box first. This is recommended as you will receive a deed and welcoming message in Finnish. Checking the mail will start your mail system that will throw random things to your mail box each day. If you receive a package, you simply activate it in your inventory and select an option from the one provided. As mentioned, features like the recruit wages will be checked through the mail box system, so you will need to check it every now and then to make sure everything is running fine. By default you have 7 days until the mail box stops delivering mail and recruits leave. However, you can change this to either 14 or 30 days using the MCM system if you tend to travel away for long periods of time on quests. XVIII MAIL BOX CONTINUED With the mail box comes a few other features. The first is the ability to donate money. This will grant you the Gift of Charity and can only be used once per day. The other cool feature of this mod is the book club. If you subscribe to the Dawnstar book club, 50 septims will be removed from your inventory each day in exchange for one book to be placed into your mail box. If you fail to check your mail after the set period of time, the recruits will be dismissed and your book club subscription will come to an end. These can be re-enabled though at any time as long as you check your mail again. XIX Recruiting Staff Before you can recruit anyone at Mörskom Estate, you need to clear out the basement of not only the Skeever infestation, but also the packed away items stored down there. This is mentioned in the section of this guide about the basement. To recruit members you must craft the desk in the living room. You will be able to sit down on the chair and activate a ledger for choosing which staff you want to bring into your home. No matter what though, you must have a cook before all else so that people have something to eat, including yourself. The Dragonborn really works up a big appetite. Of course, to hire the cook she needs a place to sleep and appliances to use in the kitchen. The following is a list of conditions that must be met to get the ledger unlocked: Empty basement Craft all Kitchen furniture and appliances Purchase kitchen laundry supplies Once the cook is recruited, you can proceed to recruit the groundsman who will have the ability to, unlock your doors if you lock yourself out, return your boat from docks of other cities and also provide firewood each day if you request it. XX RECRUITING STAFF CONTINUED The groundsman will also need his own place to sleep so once the cook is recruited, the option should become available on the carpenter’s workbench to build some accommodation. The other thing to keep in mind is that staff will cost a certain amount of septims per day to keep around the house. This will either be taken out of your inventory or you can leave plenty of gold in the strongbox on the desk. The other member at the moment that you can bring to Mörskom Estate is a guard. You must be the Thane of The Pale and have the guard tower built to be able to do this and this. You can of course dismiss any staff you no longer can afford or no longer wish to keep around. This is done at the ledger the same as when you recruited them. If you fail to pay your staff, they will automatically leave and you must get them back via the ledger once you have the coin. XXI Realistic Construction This feature requires the Dragonborn to have a certain skill level to craft items in Mörskom. It also increases the amount of materials required to craft things on the carpenter’s workbench and for other actions throughout the mod. This is great for immersion players, however many people may not like the feature and feel it’s too difficult, time consuming or even restrictive. For this reason, you can turn it off in the MCM system. If you do have the feature turned on however, you have no idea how much skill is required to force specific craft options to show on the workbench. That’s what the wonderfully long list is for on the next page, so give it a read. Either that or polish up on your smithing skills a little until there’s nothing you cannot craft. When viewing items in the craft menu, you may have noticed the number next to each item. This represents the number of hours that it will take to craft the item. Time will actually pass after you craft it so be aware if you have certain immersion mods on that affect your character’s health. Craft Item Smithing Required Archery Targets Gate Guard Tower Horse Shelter Sauna Small Shelter 25 30 35 35 40 35 XXIV Exterior Crafting Mörskom comes with a feature which I have included in past mods, but with a lot of upgraded features. At the rear of the house down by the ocean is a wrecked boat. You can find a bunch of old crates which include tools to fix not only the boat but the surrounding area. If you activate the old crates you will unpack a saw horse and carpenter’s workbench similar to the one inside of the house. Using this workbench you can fix the boat, guard house, outside sauna, shelter, horse stables and a few other things. However, one of the materials used to rebuild a lot of this stuff is collected by using the saw horse. Surrounding the backyard of Mörskom are a few large pine trees which you cut down by using the wood chopping block next to the saw horse. This will then place the cut down log onto the saw horse which turns it into a cut log used to fix the previously mentioned boat and backyard structures. Of course like everything else in the mod, this will take you time and resources. If you enable the Frostfall patch, you will also be restricted to the weather conditions that you are able to cut down the trees and perform other tasks. XXV Travel Boat As mentioned in the Exterior Crafting section, you are able to build your own travel boat. Using the travel boat you can journey to Riften, Solitude, Solstheim, and Windhelm. Depending on where you decide to go and what your current locations is, a specific number of hours will pass until you arrive at your destination. First you need to build the boat using the method mentioned in the previous section of the guide. Secondly, you need to head to Oceanside Supply and purchase the Travel Boat Maps. These will allow you to navigate to the different locations around Skyrim. They will be placed on the wall of the Laboratory once you purchase them and you can either activate them from their or place them into your inventory for use around Skyrim. The travel maps have a few options available to you. You can hang them back on the wall if you took them down, find out where your boat is or have your groundsman fetch your boat back if you left it somewhere in Skyrim. One other feature of the travel boat is the ability to go fishing. Doing this will take the boat out to sea just outside of Dawnstar and you can then activate the fishing rods. Time will pass and you will receive a random number of fish. XXVI Keys to the Estate Every now and then we all forget our keys, and Skyrim is no different. Whether you are a completely daft and leave them in your home or if you have them stored in some other home, you will be unable to access the building. For most house mods you tend to unlock the door and never lock it, but with Mörskom you can activate your keys in your inventory to lock the doors. If you do happen to lock yourself out you will receive a message upon trying to open the door. You can either hire a locksmith, get your groundsman to unlock it or if you have the skill, unlock the door yourself. Options will appear when certain conditions are met and any of the mentioned actions will take time to do. This means that a couple of hours can pass easily to get back in your home. Long story short, keep your keys on you for the love of Talos! XXVII The Meadery After you clear the basement out of Skeevers, you will able to repair the meadery using the carpenter’s workbench. You can then proceed to purchase the meadery supplied from Moira. Once the meadery is back to its former glory, you will need to light the brewers in the corner using some firewood. If you don’t then nothing will appear on the menu for creating your beverages. Mörskom includes a number of unique beverages that you can create in the meadery as well as a number of recipes for beverages in the game already. More will be added in the future. Creating mead is nice and simple in Mörskom. You light the brewers and activate the prompt on the table if you have all the needed ingredients. XXVIII Auto-Sort Once you have crafted most of the furniture in Mörskom Estate, you will notice that you can add an auto-sort container into the home. This will allow you to place items inside and have them distributed through the home. As you place an item into the container, the game will detect the type of item and send it to a relevant container within the house. Below is a list of locations that your items will be sent to. If the container does not recognise an item, it will either give it back to the player or it will remain in the auto-sort container for you to take back. If your item is sent to a container which has not yet been crafted, you will have to wait until you have crafted it to access your items, so be careful when using the auto-sort system before the house is complete. Bedroom – The wardrobe holds all clothing and armour in different sections, but you will also find that jewellery and gems get placed in a strongbox on the end table next to the bed. Miscellaneous items also get stored in a section in the wardrobe Display Room – This holds all of your unique items like weapons, shields and quest items that will be sent here, with the exception of Dragon Priest masks as they work off their own activators in the room itself XXIX Forge – You will find building materials, tools, animal hides and other animal parts get sent here. Firewood is also stored in the firewood pile in the corner Kitchen – All of your food items will get sent here in various containers Laboratory – Soul gems, spell tomes, potions, recipes and ingredients will be sent into the relevant containers here. Anything really related to enchanting and alchemy. Staves are also stored in the corner by the staff enchanter Library – Books are really the only items which will be auto-sorted here Living Room – Keys and gold are stored here in the strongbox and key holder by the desk XXX Unique Displays Mörskom Estate comes with a number of unique storage options for things like weapons, shields, and also quest items. Weapons are stored in large displays in the display room that are crafted at the workbench. Shields and staves are stored on the walls of the room and then quest items including Dragon Priest masks are stored in similar displays on the other side of the display room. You simply drop items into these displays for them to appear inside and remove them to take them out. There is also a safe in the bedroom that can be crafted to hold a number of unique quest items on your desk in the bedroom. Again, as you place items in here, you will them appear on the display. The displays will let you know if you are adding something that does not belong there and give you a list of items which do. The bedroom desk display has items such as amulets, circlets and rings. There are also a few other special items which can be placed on there. XXXI Credits There are a lot of people to thank for helping out with Mörskom Estate. We hope we have not left anyone out, but if we have we will be certain to adjust the credits. Many resources and other assistance has been provided during the mod’s development and we would like to thank everyone involved. We would also like to thank Bethesda for making such an incredible and easy to mod (sort of) game. Also, we thank the creators of SKSE, SkyUI and other mod authors of the mods that Mörskom works alongside. XXXIII Feedback We appreciate any feedback that you can give us, so please feel free to get in touch using the contact form. If your feedback is short and sweet however, you are best posting a nice comment on the mod page. This method is really only for people who wish to send a lot of detailed information. Please be sure to keep your feedback constructive and try putting something positive in there to avoid coming across too harshly. We cannot guarantee an immediate response if we are able to provide one at all. However, we will try and get back in touch and take feedback to try and improve the mod. Just because you do not get a response, it doesn’t mean that your feedback has not been acknowledged at all. We deal with a lot of comments and requests each day and simply do not have the time to help or respond to everyone. XXXIV Troubleshooting The most common issue you are going to run across with Mörskom Estate is CTD (Crash to Desktop). This is not necessarily because the mod is flawed or broken in any way. There are many reasons behind this and it’s most likely a conflict or your Skyrim is hitting the memory limit. As warned early on in the guide, you are going to need a good spec machine to run the game, so it’s not going to run off a Pentium 4 laptop. If you are having this trouble, try making sure you have the following installed on your system: The latest version of SKSE installed which includes the memory patch to help with Skyrim’s memory usage Try using ENB Boost, as this can help improve performance with your game You might also want to check the following: You don’t have too many heavily scripted mods installed on top of Mörskom Mörskom is low down on your load order and mod load priority if using Mod Organizer You have not unpacked the mod into a loose format Make sure everything seems to be installed correctly Try turning time screens off in the MCM XXXV TROUBLESHOOTING CONTINUED Mannequins can sometimes get stuck in the pedestals that they are supposed to be standing on. As of update 1.2 they should no longer wonder off or have animations for movement, but they may sink into the ground a little. Placing items on them or re-entering the room seems to solve this, but it’s not a huge issue. You may find that on occasion items are not placed on displays correctly. For example, a shield may be slightly offset on the guard shield rack. The only real fix for this is to use Jaxonz Positioner to move the object into place. It’s a really useful and simple enough mod to use that can fix static items into position wherever you want. If you find that you cannot open the fire salt jars from the store, it may be because you have more than two in your inventory. For some reason this stops the script from firing off, so just make sure you have only one and then activate it in your inventory. If you are having trouble with weapon racks and plaques, I’m afraid this is just an unfortunate thing that most mods suffer from with the vanilla system of storing weapons on these things. They work for some and not for others.
