The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association’s (GPCA)
Responsible Care® Awards have been developed to recognize
and share the experiences of the companies and individuals that
have exemplified leadership and outstanding performance based
on the implementation and execution of the Responsible Care
program over the preceding two years, prior to award submission.
Through this recognition, GPCA provides its members with
opportunities to promote the Responsible Care brand while
expanding business value.
This first edition of the GPCA RC Awards will form a key
part of the inaugural RC Conference which will be held
between 11 - 13 October 2015.
THE PRIZES
Winners of the three categories
will receive:
1. The GPCA Responsible Care Awards trophy.
2. An award winner’s certificate.
3. Opening Speeches and Roll up banners with
winners name during GPCA’s RC Conference.
4. Intensive publicity in regional and trade media
including the GPCA publications with the
awardee company’s details.
5. Advertisement with a short company profile in
GPCA’s periodical publications.
6. Feature on GPCA awards’ website with
company profile and link.
7. Coverage in ICCA’s Publications.

Awarded to one Member Company or Affiliate, in the case
of Corporate Membership, to recognize company holistic
commitment towards Responsible Care.
Awarded to a CEO nominated Employee, of a Full
Member Company or Affiliate that has demonstrated
outstanding Leadership in Responsible Care.

• One Nominee per Full Member Company or Affiliate
in the case of Corporate Membership.
• One Nominee per Full Member Company or Affiliate
in case of Corporate Membership, nominated by
Company CEO.
Awarded to Member Company or Affiliate, in the case
of Corporate Membership, which has invested
in a Project that has made demonstrable advancement
in one or more GPCA Codes of Management Practices
and / or one or a combination of GPCA Responsible
Care Performance Metrics.
• Company CEO has signed the “Commitment
to Global Charter” as mandated by GPCA.
• No Employee or Contractor fatalities in the past
2 reporting years prior to the RC Award submission
date.
• No negatively reported Environment, Health, Safety
and Security related events in the Regional Media, in the
12 months prior to the RC Award submission date.
• Company authorized by GPCA to use the RC Logo.
• Company have submitted the required performance
metrics by due date.
• Company CEO has signed the “Commitment
to Global Charter” as mandated by GPCA.
• Nominated Champion should be:
- Actively involved in the GPCA Responsible Care
Program and Events.
- Actively involved in the Company RC Outreach
Program.
- Recognized within the organization as a key
contributor in the continuous improvement of the
Environment, Health Safety and Security agenda.

Stakeholders.
• Nominated project has clearly demonstrated
improvement(s) in one or more of the following:
- GPCA Responsible Care/EHSS Metrics.
- GPCA Responsible Care Codes of Management
Practice.
JUDGING PANEL
The GPCA RC Awards will be hosted by a judging panel comprising of an Industry Expert, Peer Association
Executive, Senior Government Representative, Sustainability Expert and a well-known Petrochemicals Journalist
who will collectively recognize and honor the most rewarding entries.
Dr. Hussein Al-Bishri
Dr Hussein Al-Bishri is a regional
authority in Health, Safety and
Environment, having built 17 years of
experience with the Ministry of Health
and 21 years of experience with the
Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu.
As the Health Services and Environment Director, he set
the primary health care program of the Royal Commission
and established outreach programs for the Commission
and King Faisal specialized hospital in Riyadh. In this role,
he also led the Committee that established the Royal
Commission Environmental Regulations, known as RCER.
In terms of outreach, Dr Hussain organized and managed
several Annual World Environment Days in Jubail and
established the Royal Commission Environmental
Awareness Program and Committee. As a representative
of the Royal Commission, he participated in the national
Committees for Oil and Chemical spills and developed the
Royal Commission Plan for Radiation Protection.
He holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the
Ain Shams University in Egypt, a Master’s Degree in Public
Health from Tulane University, USA and a Bachelor’s
Degree in Environmental Health from the Eastern
Kentucky University, USA.
Darin Rovere
Darin is the President of
Sustainability Excellence.
He works extensively on
sustainability strategy, management
and reporting, and has worked with
many petrochemical and chemical
companies in the Middle East, India and Canada.
Sustainability Excellence worked with the first
sustainability reporters in the region using international
guidelines such as the GRI. Nearly half of all
organizations adopting public sustainability reporting
in the Arab region are past or present clients of
Sustainability Excellence. Sustainability Excellence
has supported significant multi-stakeholder initiatives
aimed at fostering the uptake of sustainability, including
extensive support for the Qatar Energy and Industry
Sector Sustainability program, and previous to that, the
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group.
Sustainability Excellence tracks the sustainability
performance of several hundred companies in the Arab
region, and is a Global Reporting Initiative data partner
for the Arab region. Sustainability Excellence recently
became only the fourth regional company to be
accepted as a formal signatory to the United Nations
Principles for Responsible Investment.
Darin has lived in the Middle East for 8 years, and
has supported clients in 9 countries in the region.
Prior to moving to the region, four of his international
clients ranked #1 in the world for sustainability in their
sector, based on the assessments of such prestigious
rankings as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. He has
previously served on awards committees internationally,
and has assisted in designing award criteria. He has
travelled and/or delivered work in 70 countries.
Daniel Roczniak
Daniel is currently, Senior Director,
Responsible Care® with the
American Chemistry Council (ACC)
in Washington, DC. During his
20 years with ACC, he has assisted
ACC member and Partner companies
in the implementation of the Responsible Care initiative
in their operations. Currently, he manages ACC’s
Responsible Care third-party certification process.
His responsibilities include providing implementation
assistance for companies preparing for certification;
liaison with auditing firms and their accreditation
bodies; and organizing training and workshops for
ACC company personnel. In addition to the ACC’s
certification program, Daniel manages implementation
of the ACC’s Responsible Care Security Code.
Since 2010 Daniel has been working with the Indian
Chemical Council to enhance its existing Responsible
Care program. Prior to his work in India, he led
ACC’s assistance efforts to the Dubai-based Gulf
Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA)
as it launched its Responsible Care program. Daniel
is active in the International Council of Chemical
Associations’ (ICCA) Responsible Care Leadership
Group and has organized industry workshops and other
events in South America, the Middle East and Asia.
Prior to joining the ACC in 1993, Daniel worked for
several public policy consulting firms in the Washington
DC area assisting clients to better understand the
workings of public interest groups active on issues
such as environmental protection; consumer rights;
biotechnology and genetic engineering; shareholder
activism and animal welfare.
Daniel is a graduate of The George Washington
University in Washington DC and lives in Virginia with
his wife and two sons.
Ken Tsang
Ken Tsang started at ICCA at the
beginning of 2013 as the China
Responsible Care Advisor of the
Responsible Care Leadership Group
(RCLG), following more than 40 years
in the Responsible Care, Environmental,
Health, Safety and Security (EH&SS) areas.
He started as an Environmental Consultant in Vancouver,
BC and Edmonton, AB in Canada in 1972-1978. He
then joined the Dow Chemical Canada Inc. and became
the Canadian EH&S Director for Dow Canada in 2000. In
2006, he was appointed as the Dow Asia Pacific EH&S
Director for Operations in 41 locations in 11 countries
and moved to Shanghai. He was responsible for the
strategies such as EH&S performance excellence,
Responsible Care® strategies and sustainability.
In 2009, he retired from Dow following 30 years of
service and joined the Association of International
Chemical Manufacturers Association (AICM) as the
Responsible Care Advisor. He was responsible for the
AICM Responsible Care strategy including nurturing
future EH&S Responsible Care Leaders in the member
companies, promoting Responsible Care among
member companies and China Chemical industry
including advocacy work in Chemical Parks, Higher
Education Institutions, media and the general public.
In 2013, Ken joined ICCA RCLG as the China Advisor
mentoring AICM and CPCIF (China Petroleum and
Chemical Industry Federation) on their Responsible
Care strategy and programs. In 2014 Ken received a
Merit Award from CIAC (Chemistry Industry Association
of Canada) for his contribution to Responsible Care.
Ken has been very active in the Responsible Care area
for 30 years since its inception in Canada in 1985.
Tsang holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical
engineering from California State University in Chico
and a Masters of Science in Engineering from Oregon
State University, USA, majoring in Air Pollution Control
and minor in Water Pollution Control.
Christopher Kelly
Chris Kelly is the Editor of ITP’s
flagship downstream publication,
Refining and Petrochemicals
Middle East and has a wide
range of experience in covering
both the upstream and downstream
oil and gas sector.
As the Editor for RPME, Chris is responsible for
sourcing and writing cutting edge content on the
region’s downstream chemical and petrochemical
industries, as well as connecting with the Middle
East’s most influential players. By working closely with
organizations such as the GPCA, RPME continues to
set the agenda for downstream discussion here in the
Middle East.
Before moving to the UAE, Chris studied in the UK
and obtained his Master’s degree from the University
of Kent in 2007.

• Entry Fee for the Responsible Care Awards is AED 500 (five hundred) per award submission for all categories.
• Deadline for submissions is 31 May 2015 for all categories.
