Spring 2015
Dear Members:
This edition marks my last as Chair of the Section and I express my gratitude
to Professor Ron Beal for continuing to keep the General Practice Digest
operating smoothly. The Section is fortunate that his work and that of the
editors of each substantive area requires little oversight.
During the past several years, the Council has been active in attempting to
pass on information to the Section's Members. We now are pleased to have a
“man on the inside,” as our own Councilmember Philip Mack Furlow has
been elected to serve as Large Section Representative on the State Bar Board
of Directors. With Philip Mack on the Bar Board we should have
unprecedented and up-to-the-minute access to the goings-on at the State Bar.
This will prove a valuable commodity for our section members as we will
have much more timely information on matters that concern us all.
As you know from the past, our Section puts on excellent CLE programs and
will continue to do so this spring and summer. First, of course, is the General
Practice Institute on April 24, 2015 at Baylor Law School, Waco, Texas.
This is an excellent program covering a cross-section of practice areas that
general practitioners deal with on a day-to-day basis. Next will be the CLE
program that we put on at the State Bar Annual Meeting in San Antonio on
June 18, 2015. In four quick hours, our Section sponsors speakers on wide
range of topics that are current and on-point for our ever-changing practice. I
encourage all our members and your colleagues to attend these excellent
CLE seminars. You won't find any more pertinent information to your
general practice than that provided in these seminars.
It has been a privilege to serve as Section Chair this year. I thank you all for
your membership and encourage you to get involved with the Bar through
our section, your local bar associations or at the State level. The more good
lawyers who are engaged in the process, the better our Bar will be.
Brandon S. Earp, Chair
