service held at Berkshire Middle School. Volunteers are matched
according to comfort subject areas and student age.

Please help with set up (sorting donated items) and during this
garage sale with a variety of tasks. All hours will be performed at
Berkshire Middle School, the site of the sale. The BEF uses funds it
raises to support important programs at Groves and other BPS
schools. This service directly benefits many things you appreciate!

Shelter
(Global Youth Service
Day)
SOS needs volunteer groups to build bike racks and a community
garden at our facility in Lathrup Village. Additionally, volunteers
will engage in an educational presentation about poverty and
homelessness in the local area of Oakland County. The event will
include community speakers and lunch.

Friends of the Village
Preserve
Join committed environmentalists from Lathrup Village &
neighboring communities to support ecological restoration within
the Village Preserve. Activities change seasonally but include
eradicating invasive species, grooming plants, creating a walking
path, as well as seeding/planting new items. Volunteers should
dress in long pants and wear boots or gardening shoes (gloves are
useful!). The preserve is located at 19600 Forest Drive in Lathrup

Shades of Pink – A
Walk at the Zoo
Shades of Pink Foundation offers temporary financial assistance
(supporting mortgages, utilities, food and other essentials) during
their time of need. A Walk at the Zoo raises funds to support
breast cancer patients and their families. It begins in a festive Big
Top Tent with breakfast snacks, shopping, face painting, survivor
stories, sponsor and team recognition, and ends with a walk
through the Detroit Zoo. Join this team from Groves attending the
walk. Each walker must pay a $25 registration fee that goes
directly to the cause. Must register by April 12th for this early
registration rate!

help create a webpage for the PTSA and train the membership on
how to update it. As a service project, any time spent delivering
this service would count toward any service hour requirement.

Beverly Hills’ Memorial Day Carnival? This is a fun way to provide
a community service, get your group's name out in public and
make a little bit of money.
Friendship Circle creates friendship in the lives of individuals with
special needs while providing an opportunity to become a
contributing member of the community. Through our
programming, Friendship Circle aims to promote an inclusive
community that values all individuals regardless of the challenges
they face. Join as a volunteer youth mentor in a variety of
program offerings.
The Dream Project -- a 501(c) non-profit organization based in
Troy, MI, which supports an orphanage in Mozambique, Africa has
several volunteer opportunities. Among them, is one focused on
event and fundraising coordinating. Other services are needed

Volunteer at this Alzheimer’s assisted living facility in Bingham Farms
to help seniors as they play games daily in the afternoon.
Volunteer for their After-School Enrichment Program to help
children with tutoring, arts and crafts and gym activities or to serve
evening dinner meals. Also in need of groups to help on large
projects during the weekend and welcome clothes donations
Assist the Homework Club with tutoring support. Ideally, volunteers
commit for an entire semester.
Volunteers are needed to assist with after school art classes. They
also have a teen art board that does art-based service projects
ongoing…new members can join anytime.

Most BPS elementary schools run after-school care and needs high
school volunteers to help run games, activities and provide
homework support for students in grades 3-8. Some schools like
students to commit for one day a week per trimester; others are
more flexible.

Help wrap presents for children at local hospitals during their weekly
wrapping event at their warehouse in Troy.
Consider being a teen volunteer trained to answer the crisis line for
teens and parents of teens. (requires intense training)
Volunteers are needed to assist at the Discovery Center and other
special events at museum.
Volunteer to provide recreation services to children and adults with
special needs, at skating, bowling and Friday social events.

learning about philanthropy and how to make grants to solve

Help supervise children in a play session from 5-6 pm on
Wednesdays while their parents attend programming. (Generally

Volunteers are needed to walk dogs waiting for adoptions during
“adopt a pet” events at PetCo in Troy and Premier Pet Supplies in
Beverly Hills. Volunteers will be trained.

Buddy Study is a distance learning program for early elementary
students in Detroit and Pontiac. Students are mailed packets of
learning materials and then graded and feedback provided by
volunteers. Volunteers commit to 1.5-2 hours per week to review
student materials at the office at 13 and Telegraph.
Yad Ezra is looking for volunteers of all faiths to support their food
pantry. The pantry, located in Berkley, offers kosher food to families
in need, providing food to over 1300 families monthly. Volunteers
help clients shop and sort donated food items.
