This Month Jeff Swanson with Clark County Economic Development and Martin Snell
of Clark County Community Development will be our guest speakers Jeff Swanson is Clark County’s director of economic development, a position he has held
since April, 2014. Jeff previously worked for Clark County’s General Services department
as the program coordinator for the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad.
Prior to joining Clark County in July, 2013, Jeff worked in the manufacturing and
transportation sectors, holding various management positions. He has more than 20
years’ experience in industrial transportation and supply chain management, including
rail and marine transportation. He also has worked as a management consultant,
advising business clients on economic and environmental matters, finance and general
business management. Jeff has also been an adjunct professor of economics and
business administration at Portland State University.
Jeff is currently a doctoral candidate in Portland State University’s Systems Science
program. He also holds Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in
economics, as well as Graduate Certificates in Environmental/Resource Economics and
Computer Modeling/Simulation from PSU.
Marty is responsible for overseeing animal protection and control, building safety, code
enforcement, the fire marshal’s office, development review and the Permit Center.
Reporting to the County Manager, Marty works closely with the Board of Clark County
Councilors on building, development, and land use issues for one of the state’s largest
and fastest growing counties. Prior to this current position, Marty was the Director of
Community Planning for Clark County, where he oversaw the county’s growth
management program.
Before joining Clark County in October 2005, Marty worked for nearly sixteen years in
both Camas and Washougal managing many complex projects, including work on
growth management plans, changes to development and environmental plans and
regulations, overseeing sub­area planning, executing annexations, and assisting with
economic development strategies. His experience has covered a broad spectrum of
growth­related issues, which extended to working closely with a variety of professionals
and interest groups, appointed bodies and legislative authorities.
Marty holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Western
Washington University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Portland State
University. Professionally, Marty is a member of the American Planning Association
(APA) and the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). He has served as
president of both Washington City Planning Directors Association and Washington
State Association of County and Regional Planning Directors, where he remains active
today.
Marty and his wife Brenda live in Camas and have two sons, Tanner (age 15) and
Andrew (age 9).

Garry Lucas. Sheriff Lucas will be serving as this year’s Parade of Bands Grand Marshal and lead the 2015
“Wild, Wild West” parade forward.

Come get a free hot dog and your photo with the famed Oscar Mayer Weinermobile at a special
neighborhood cook out sponsored and hosted by the residents of The Hampton at Salmon Creek!
The visit will include free hot dogs, photos, free Wienerwhistles, games for kids and grandparents and live
music.
In the spirit of sharing a piece of American culture with the next generation, the ladies and gentlemen who live
at The Hampton at Salmon Creek Memory Care Community are hosting the event in their front yard and
buying all the wieners. They’ll also be selling ice cream to raise funds to end Alzheimer’s disease. Local
businesses and local organizations will host games and giveaways to add even more fun to the cook out.
It’s an open invitation. Local businesses and non­profit organization are invited to participate with a booth
