Speaker: Kevin Willis – Claim Services
This presentation will put in to plain words the Medicare Regulations
as they apply to various aspects of Medicare Secondary Payer.
Pictures will be painted of the best approach to common and not so
common Medicare registration scenarios. Compliance pitfalls will be
identified as well as and how to avoid them. We will explore Third
Party Liability, impediments to reimbursement, the provider’s duty to
investigate, the need to properly document findings and the
consequences that face a provider that does not.

GENERAL SESSION: THE SHARKS ARE SWARMING—501(R)
Speaker: Lyman Sornberger – Capio Partners
501 (r) has been the challenge for Non Profits since 2010. Now with
the final regulatory guidelines; the Health Care System and industry
can move towards a framework to meet the industry mandates. This
session will complement the historical demands of the 501 (r)
requirements and the challenges of the future for Health Care
Systems with adopting the change.

GENERAL SESSION: MEDICARE DSH – YEAR 2 OF THE ACA
Speaker: Robert Gricius, CEO – Naveos Data
This session is designed to educate you on the impact of Medicare
DSH under Year 2 of the ACA. With Medicaid expansion in Kentucky,
it is important to understand what steps you can take now to
successfully compete for a fixed and declining amount of
Federal/State DSH funding in the next 3-5 years. The presentation
will cover the impact of expansion on hospitals, Uncompensated Care
payment management using Worksheet S-10, as well as provider
action items to obtain 100% of the reimbursements to which you are
entitled.

PARTNERING TO IMPROVE HEALTH OUTCOMES
Speakers: Polly Mullins-Bentley – Ky. Office of Health Benefit
& Health Information Technology
Polly will provide an update on KHIE, the statewide health information
exchange in Kentucky. Polly will provide current statistics on KHIE’s
active data exchange, vendor interoperability, public health reporting
and other meaningful use topics. Polly will also introduce plans for
the next generation KHIE for with a focus on added functionality and
improved interoperability.

Prior to becoming a full-time entertainer, George was a YMCA
youth director, a college athlete, a soldier and a church staff
worker. He is a husband, father, seminary graduate, good
neighbor and good friend to all!

REDDEN – NORTON HEALTHCARE
Janice Redden, CCS, CPC-H, is the System Director of
Revenue Integrity for Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Ky. Her
career has spanned over 35 years in various positions, including
hospital and physician coding, skilled nursing facilities,
chargemaster, auditing and clinical documentation. In her
current position she serves on the system’s Billing and
Documentation Compliance Committee and is the Business
Owner for their ICD-10 Implementation Process. She has
presented in the past for the American Health Information
Management Association’s ICD-10 Summit, River Valley and
Kentucky Health Information Management Associations, HFMA
and has been published in the HFM magazine.

SESSION B: TECHNICALLY SPEAKING…WHEN MEDICINE AND
TECHNOLOGY COLLIDE: MARK HAKIM, BS, MA, MBA, CPHRM –
PROASSURANCE
Mark Hakim, BS, MA, MBA, CPHRM, Director, Risk
Management, received his Bachelors in Medical Technology
and Masters in Exercise Physiology from Michigan State
University. He obtained an MBA from the University of Detroit
Mercy.
Mr. Hakim has an extensive clinical and hospital managerial
background, including exercise physiologist in cardiology
services, manager of cardiology services, and director of
occupational and employee health services at hospitals in
southeastern Michigan. He has served in leadership roles with
the Michigan Society of Healthcare Risk Management and is a
Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management. He is
also a graduate of the Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship
sponsored by the Health Research & Educational Trust.
Mr. Hakim joined the ProAssurance Group companies in 2002.

As a measurement strategist, Whitney’s passion and expertise
lies in the field of surveys and assessments. A self-professed
“data nerd,” Whitney has a Master’s Degree in the area of
Human Resources Measurement and Evaluation and has
conducted extensive research on the predictive validity of
various hiring assessment strategies. She has been a highly
rated speaker at the National SHRM Conference and has had
an article published by Harvard Business Review. She is also a
contributing author to the 2015 book “What’s Next in Human
Resources.”

Whitney specializes in delivering data-supported insights into
job candidates, employees, teams, leaders, customers, and
organizations. Using valid and reliable assessment and survey
tools, she provides practical, actionable information to leaders
that informs business decisions and has a measurable impact
on the organization’s bottom line.
Whitney founded ProActive Consulting in 2003. She resides in
Louisville, KY with her husband and two daughters.

FINANCIAL IMPACT: BILL HARRINGTON – NORTON HEALTHCARE
AND
William (Bill) Harrington is a Director of Clinical Effectiveness at
Norton Healthcare in Louisville, KY. In his role, Bill mentors
improvement team leaders in both Lean and Six Sigma
methodologies to understand problems, identify their causes,
and develop lasting solutions. His experience in process
engineering and system design is being applied to make
impactful change for patients, providers, and staff. Bill holds a
BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati,
an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, and he is
currently pursuing a PhD in Industrial Engineering at the
University of Louisville.

Tony Helton is the Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations
at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Northern Kentucky. St. Elizabeth
Healthcare is a five facility system in the Greater Cincinnati
region with net revenues of one billion dollars. Previously, Mr.
Helton worked at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for 22 years.
During his tenure at Cincinnati Children’s, he served as the
Executive Director of Hospital Billing Operations.
Mr. Helton received his Bachelor’s degree from Northern
Kentucky University in Management and Organizational Studies
and has completed the Executive Leadership Program at the

University of Notre Dame. He has served as the President of the
Southwestern Ohio Chapter of HFMA (2011 – 2012), Chair of
the Patient Account Managers Committee for the Greater
Cincinnati Health Council (2007 – 2008) and has served on the
Strategic Planning Committee for the Ohio Children’s Hospital
Association and the ABC Committee of the OHA. He became a
Fellow in HFMA in 2013 and has been a member since 1995.
BRAD ARTHUR – ST. ELIZABETH HEALTHCARE
Brad Arthur is the Director of Business Office Operations at St.
Elizabeth Healthcare in Northern Kentucky. St. Elizabeth
Healthcare is a five facility system in the Greater Cincinnati
region with net revenues of one billion dollars. Previously, he
has held the position of Director or Revenue Integrity for St.
Elizabeth Healthcare. Prior to joining SEH, Mr. Arthur worked as
a leader and consultant to the physician community. He served
as TCI’s Director of Revenue Cycle Operations for most of his
tenure, a medical billing, claims clearinghouse and consulting
company in Cincinnati, OH. Mr. Arthur received his Bachelor’s
degree from Northern Kentucky University in Marketing. He has
been an active member in HFMA for 2 years and has completed
the CRCR program.
MIKE YADAV, FHFMA – ST. ELIZABETH HEALTHCARE
Mike Yadav is the Director of Revenue Cycle Operations at St
Elizabeth Healthcare in Northern Kentucky since 2006.
Previously, Mr. Yadav worked at Mercy Health Partners in
Paducah, KY and Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) in
Lexington, KY. At Mercy Health Partners, he served as a
System Director of Reimbursement, Decision Support and
Revenue Cycle. He was a System Director of Reimbursement &
Decision Support at ARH.
Mr. Yadav received his Bachelor’s degree in Science from Delhi
University, India. He received his Master’s degree in Business
Administration from Schiller International University, London,
England. He was also a member of Chartered Institute of
Management Accounting in London. He joined Kentucky HFMA
chapter in 2000 and served on the board from 2009-2011. He
received his CHFP certification in 2005 and FHFMA in 2010. He
currently serves on the board of the Welcome House of
Northern Kentucky.

THE SHARKS ARE SWARMING—501(R): LYMAN SORNBERGER –
CAPIO PARTNERS
Prior to joining Capio Partners in 2013, Mr. Sornberger was the
executive director of revenue cycle management (RCM) for the
Cleveland Clinic Health System (CCHS) for seven years. Prior
to his affiliation with CCHS he was with the University of
Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) for twenty two years as a
leader in the revenue cycle management. Mr. Sornberger has
great admiration for both health systems (each with revenues of
greater than $6 billion) and highly respects their missions,
vision, and strategies. In the past twenty-nine years Mr.
Sornberger is proud to have served as a consultant and advisor
with various healthcare practices across the country. He has
authored over 2200 articles for HFMA, AAHAM, and other
leaders in the revenue cycle arena.

MEDICARE DSH – YEAR 2 OF THE ACA: ROBERT GRICIUS, CEO –
NAVEOS DATA
Robert Gricius is a nationally recognized authority, speaker and
expert witness in the area of healthcare finance. He holds a
B.A. in Computer Science from the University of California,
Berkeley, an MBA in Finance, and is a Certified Public
Accountant in the Commonwealth of Virginia. After a career as
a hospital Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Director of
Managed Care for a $1 billion+ multi-hospital system in the MidAtlantic region, Mr. Gricius founded the healthcare data
analytics firm, NAVEOS®, in 2006.
He has led the
development and deployment of the industry’s only fully
integrated DSH/340B software system with the associated
administrative, regulatory and technical support. His leadership
has resulted in the creation of electronic data interchange
networks between clients and states that have over 93% of the
Medicaid membership and 100% of all Medicare
beneficiaries. Since 2008, NAVEOS® has identified and/or
recovered over $250 million in federal DSH reimbursement on
behalf of clients. NAVEOS® is endorsed by six state hospital
associations (Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Virginia,
Kentucky and New York) as the preferred DSH/340B vendor.

IMPROVE HEALTH OUTCOMES: POLLY MULLINS-BENTLEY - Ky.
Office of Health Benefit & Health Information Technology
Polly’s current post is with the Kentucky Health Information
Exchange (KHIE) in the Kentucky Office of Health Benefit &
Health Information Exchange in the KY Cabinet for Health &
Family Services. The primary focus of her work currently is on
the state-wide initiative for health information exchange. She is
working in the capacity of State Health I.T. Coordinator to
facilitate the KHIE Strategic & Operational Plan, which is
focused on connecting all providers across the state of
Kentucky to the health information exchange over the coming
years. Polly and her team also provide support for the KY
Medicaid EHR Incentive Program to assist providers in meeting
meaningful use requirements.
Prior to this Polly spent the past ten years as ‘Director of Clinical
Information Systems’ for Appalachian Regional Healthcare,
where she was responsible for the implementations of a
number of clinical systems including a physician portal,
document-imaging/EMR, PACS, physician practice EHR, and
Emergency Department EHR (both including CPOE). She also
served in the capacity of the organization’s HIPAA Security
Officer.
