Advanced Course on Leadership and Management Skills Participants on our Leadership & Management Skills Courses have frequently asked for a follow-up course. Now, for the first time, we are able to give you exactly what you asked for, a new workshop, especially designed for senior postdocs and PIs who have completed the basic course, to refresh leadership knowledge and skills and acquire new tools to build team cohesion and productivity. In addition, you‘ll benefit from a few days away from stressful lab life, meeting colleagues in an attractive environment within easy reach of Berlin. Come and join us at our summer follow-up in the intriguing university city of Potsdam! Dates: Start: Thursday, June 25, 2015, 3.30 pm (beginning with welcome coffee & light snacks) End: Saturday, June 27, 2015, 2.00 pm (ending with lunch) (We have reserved rooms, so that you can prolong your stay at the hotel by one more night.) Goals: You will … • reinforce and extend and your mastery of leadership & management skills, thereby strengthening your identity as a leader in science • develop answers or realistic ideas for solutions to your “burning” questions or cases • analyse your current situation, including your work-life balance, and develop a vision for the future of your team • learn practical ways of making core values an integral part of your team culture • develop your ability to design and conduct productive meetings or retreats with your team to improve cooperation and cohesion • be encouraged to network during the course, as well as to meet in peer leaders’ circles afterwards Venue & location: Potsdam is to Berlin what Versailles is to Paris. It was the residence of Prussian kings and the German Kaiser until 1918. The city has many cultural landmarks, in particular the parks and palaces of Sanssouci, the largest World Heritage Site in Germany. Potsdam is surrounded by forests and a series of interconnected lakes, yet is only a 30-minute train ride from the centre of Berlin. Our hotel and venue, the **** NH Potsdam (http://www.nh-hotels.com/hotel/nh-potsdam), enjoys a prime location in Potsdam’s historic centre. The main sights are all within easy walking distance with the Dutch Quarter, a mixture of homes, small shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, just opposite. Since a large part of the hotel – including the meeting rooms – is designed around a quiet courtyard with a garden, we can hold our course both in- and outside, weather permitting. Those who want to relax after the workshop can take advantage of the hotel’s sauna, steam bath and Jacuzzi. Travel: Berlin is well connected with low cost airlines offering flights from many European cities to-Tegel or Schönefeld airports, arriving in the morning before the workshop. Return flights are available after the workshop on Saturday afternoon/evening or on the following day/s – if you decide to stay longer. The hotel can be reached by public transport from Berlin-Tegel in 50 minutes or Berlin-Schönefeld in 60 to 90 minutes both for under €4. Of course, if you live locally, you can take the train to Potsdam station followed by a 10 minute tram ride to the hotel.
