RULES AND REGULATIONS
1.The2015 New Brunswick Selection Championship is sanctioned and governed by the rules & regulations of
the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing and ScotDance Canada. All dancers must show a current
SOBHD Dancer Registration Card to register.
2.AGE:Age is to be taken as of July 1 for determining the age classification in which dancers would enter the
Canadian Championship. Thus, in preliminary championships or competitions used to select provincial
representatives, dancers would compete according to their age on July 1 of that year.
3.ELIGIBILITY:As this is a Closed Championship, the SOBHD rules state dancers may qualify by birth or having
been a New Brunswick resident for six (6) months prior to this event. However, eligibility to compete in the
Canadian Championship (July 2015), ScotDance Canada rules state a dancer may invoke the birth clause only if the
dancer is ineligible to compete by residency in any province. In addition, post-secondary students may choose to
compete in the Closed Provincial Selection Event of either the province where they attend school or the province of
their permanent residence, but not both.
4. All dancers must dance the 2015 SOBHD Championship steps. The 7 Years & Under 10 Years class and the 10
Years & Under 12 Years class will dance cut steps as set out by the SOBHD. Championship steps must be danced
regardless of whether or not there are sufficient numbers in the section to qualify as a championship.If a
championship class is cancelled due to insufficient entries, all dancers over the age of 12 years must dance
the 2015 SOBHD Championship steps - no short steps.

Entries must be post marked by April 24th,2015. Absolutely no late entries will be accepted and no
refunds will be given for any reason.
Championship Age groups will be as follows: 7 yrs & under 10 yrs, 10 yrs & under 12 yrs, 12 yrs &
under 14 yrs, 14 yrs & under,16 yrs, 16 yrs & under 18 yrs, 18 yrs & under 21 years, 21 years and
over. All age groups will be run as printed.
Medals will be awarded to six places in all classes and special awards will be presented to the top 4
dancers in each age group. If there are six dancers that dance in the age group, a Champion and 3
runners up will be chosen. If there are not six dancers competing in an age group, championship steps must
still be performed and the high aggregate winner and the next 2 highest overall dancers will be
chosen as representatives for that age group.

The third runner up in a championship age group will be considered as an alternate to the dance
team if one of the top 3 winners is unable to attend the ScotDance Canada Championship Series to
compete in the Canadian Championship.
Protests must be lodged in writing the day of the Championship. A $25.00 fee must accompany the
protest, which will be returned if the protest is upheld.
All Dancers will need to present a current SOBHD card in order to be eligible to dance.
First to enter, last to dance for Highland Fling, there will be a draw for placement for Sword, Seann
Triubas and Strathspey and ½ Tulloch.
ScotDance New Brunswick will not be responsible for any lost articles or injuries to contestants or
spectators.

Notice to parents: Following the championship event there will be an information meeting and photo session
for all representatives and team alternates. It is mandatory that all 2014 reps and alternates attend both
sessions to receive their rep. packages and have their 2014 New Brunswick Team photo taken. This will be a
great opportunity for our newly crowned NB Team to ask any questions to the SDNB Rep Coordinator
regarding the upcoming Championship Series and to order a New Brunswick team jacket.
