Dear Parents & Students, Thank you for making a commitment to the Haverford High School Band or Orchestra. We are BOPs -‐ Band and Orchestra Parents – a music parent booster organization, created over 80 years ago, that supports the Haverford School District music program. The secret to our success is YOU! What Does BOPs Do? BOPs is a group of parents and adults that organizes events and trips to enrich our student musicians and color guard, provides chaperones and support for those outings, recognizes our students and raises money for activities related to our music students. Without BOPs, many musical activities would be underfunded, or impossible. In this time of shrinking budgets and escalating costs, BOPs supports the Band and Orchestra by raising money to support our award-‐winning music programs. What does BOPs do with funds raised? • Purchase band, orchestra and color guard uniforms for Grades 7 -‐ 12 • Purchase select instruments (stand up bass, sousaphones, tubas, percussion, etc) • Repair and maintain select instruments • Sponsor two $1000 scholarships for graduating seniors each year • Organize the Senior Recognition Nights and Banquet • Provide snacks and water at events and competitions • Subsidize transportation to music events • Subsidize drill instruction for sectionals There are many ways to support our Band and Orchestra programs: We need volunteers to help with various events during the year. Many activities require only a few hours of your time. Please review the Volunteer Opportunity section on the registration form to choose your way to support the Haverford School District Music Department. Volunteering your time is also a great way to stay involved in your teen’s active life. Please help BOPs by volunteering. Participate in our fundraisers: ⇒ They contribute to our General Fund and Uniform Fund ⇒ Some also fund your student’s Trip Account ⇒ To learn more about BOPs Fundraising, keep reading! BOPs FUNDRAISING:

Remember, Trip Accounts accumulate funds to pay for trips (and registration fees and senior banquet)! A Trip Account collects funds in your student's name, and is used to offset the expenses of certain music trips (ie, Dorney, Disney, Virginia Beach). They are transferable between family members. One of the easiest ways to support BOPs (and your student) can be accomplished through SUPERMARKET SCRIP & GIFT CARDS. These cards are purchasable throughout the year, at concerts, BOPs meetings, or by arrangement. SUPERMARKET SCRIP: a supermarket gift card program. The grocer donates $5 for every $100 of scrip purchased (choices include Superfresh, Giant, Acme, Colonial, Young’s Produce & Shop Rite). Proceeds are split between the General Fund and your student’s Trip Account. GIFT CARDS: orders are collected once a month. There are literally hundreds of companies participating. Various denominations are available, depending on the vendor. The companies typically donate between 2-‐15% of the face value of the gift card (split between the General Fund and your student’s Trip Account.) Industries include restaurants, pet supplies, retail stores, hotels, office supplies, etc. THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO SUPPORT BOPs with money you already spend each month. Learn more here: http://hhsmusic.org/script2.htm OTHER FUNDRAISERS: Some ideas under consideration for this year: ♦ Kidstuff coupon book sale ♦ Vendor show ♦ Centrella’s hoagie vouchers ♦ Carwash & BBQ ♦ Boeing Family Picnic ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ UNIFORM CARE & MAINTENANCE -‐ REPLACEMENT AGREEMENTS: A large part of the money raised by BOPs buys the uniforms that our HS & MS Band, Orchestra and color guard students wear. It is your responsibility to maintain the uniform given to you at the beginning of each year. Any part of the uniform lost or damaged must be replaced at YOUR EXPENSE. Replacement costs are as follows: BAND: ORCHESTRA / WIND ENSEMBLE: Marching Jacket $200 Cummerbund $25 Tuxedo: jacket/pants $175/75 Concert Jacket $200 Bow Tie $ 5 Ladies Skirt $ 75 Pants $ 75 Garment Bag $15 Ladies Shirt $ 45 Hat $ 45 Hat Box $15 Bow Tie $ 5 Plume $ 20 Gauntlets $40 Cummerbund $ 25 Garment Bag $ 15 MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS: • Always carry your uniform to and from school on a hanger in the garment bag provided. • Please make sure all buttons, snaps, & zippers are fastened before storing. Fold pants along the crease and hang carefully. This will help the uniform keep its shape. • Hang your uniform in a well-‐ventilated area to air out before returning it to the garment bag. • NEVER store a wet or damp uniform in the garment bag. It will mildew. The uniform will need to be replaced. Mildew is NOT removable by any cleaning process. • Uniforms must be professionally dry cleaned when needed. Uniforms CANNOT be washed. • Do not attempt to clean hats -‐ seek help from the uniforms coordinator with odd stains or marks. • Shoes should be labeled with your name. They should be kept clean and shined at all times. • Marching and Competition Bands: rain gear and plumes will be kept at school and distributed when needed. ⇒ By signing the Uniform Responsibility Agreement on Registration Form you are agreeing to take proper care of the uniform(s) in your care and to pay replacement costs for anything lost or ruined.
