After marking and cleaning his ball he lines up his putt. Before addressing his birdie attempt a gust of wind moves his ball a couple inches further back away from the hole. He decides to play the ball at its new position where it lies and rolls it in for what he thinks is a Birdie (2). Is this the correct score on the hole? See page 10 for the answer. 11 Please call the Golf Shop at70-345-5500, ext. 1. BridgeMill Golf Academy “Our Goal is to Help You Enjoy Your Golf More” Tips From The Pro Putt Careless Probably the premier sports psychologist is Dr. Bob Rotella. Following is an insight from Dr. Rotella. “Most players are too careful on the putting green. They don’t trust their instincts and abilities. They doubt whether they’ve read the green correctly. They try to force the clubhead to stay on line. By being too careful they putt worse than if they were careless.” I would maybe put it another way putt carefree. Now the key to putting carefree is to practice your distance control (speed) on the practice green and then trust it on the course. Best Wishes for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Hope to see you soon. At that time, Denise Killeen, had a mere handful of juniors in her program. Thanks to the vision and passion of Killeen, there are currently over 150 Juniors enrolled in her Junior Golf Academy. Coach Killeen began playing golf at the age of 9. She received a full golf scholarship to Furman University. She played on the LPGA for 14 years, and retired when her two children began school. BridgeMill is so lucky to have her at the helm of its Junior Golf Academy. She has several levels of the program, so that there is a place in the Academy for a new golfer or a junior golfer that plays in tournaments throughout the year all over the United States. The Players Tournament Club level of the Academy offers fitness, sports psychology, Toastmasters, as well as college recruiting preparation. With so much support from Killeen and her complete program, the Junior golfers at BridgeMill are thriving. This past year, BridgeMill had winners in the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, the U.S. Kids Local Golf Tour, Atlanta Junior Golf Association, the Rolling Red Junior Golf Tour and Georgia State Golf Association. Several Junior Golfers qualified and participated in the U.S. Amateur Qualifier, U.S. Girls Junior Championship Qualifier, the U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier, the Optimist International Jr. Golf Championships in Palm Beach, Florida and in the U.S. Kids World Championships in Pinehurst, North CarolinaSeveral of her students are now playing golf at the collegiate level. She hopes one day to have juniors play at the ultimate level of the PGA or LPGA. It is her goal to help them reach their maximum potential. With Killeen and her program, the future looks very, very bright for the juniors in the BridgeMill Junior Golf Academy. BridgeMill Sixes Service League November is the month to be Thankful. I am thankful that the sun has finally returned and that we didn’t experience the flooding that occurred in the Carolinas. I know that as I sit down to Thanksgiving dinner this year, I will remember to say a prayer for all of the people who lost their lives and their homes in the flood. Thank you so much to the committee who worked tirelessly for the past several months to organize our Sixth Annual Golf Fore Charity event: Jay and Marlyn Patouillet, Suzanne Taylor, Jim Mein, Kathy and Darryl Fulton, Steve Zahorodny, Jon Subacz, Pam Yagoda, Susan Staudt, Caroline Zipkin, and Nicole Shippy. Thank you to all members of the BSSL and community volunteers who helped with golfer registration, the silent auction and those who were outside on the golf course during the wind and the rain. Finally a special thank you to the 86 golfers, without you this year would not have been such a huge success. Thank you to our community for purchasing raffle tickets and bidding on our silent auction items. Once again because of the generosity of so many, the BSSL will continue to help charities in Cherokee County. Thank you to Meg Rogers and her staff at Cherokee Family Violence Center for attending our luncheon and sharing information about CFVC’s role in helping families afflicted with violence. Thank you in advance for placing your plastic bag at the curb on November 7th. Your non-perishables will be delivered to MUST ministries in Canton. We will help to restock their shelves in preparation for Thanksgiving. Help us along with surrounding communities and churches take care of families in Cherokee county who are less fortunate. MUST notified us that there is a special need for Cranberry Sauce, Canned Sweet Potatoes, Boxes of Mashed Potatoes, Mac and Cheese, Cornbread Muffin Mix, and packets of Gravy Mix. If you have any questions please contact Susan Gaines at [email protected]. Thank you members of the BSSL for always asking, “What else can we do?” See you on November 19th, 7:00pm at the Terrace. Don’t forget that this is the last meeting of 2015 and that elections for next year’s board will be taking place. Our SCAT item for this month is children’s winter coats. This month we will be decorating a Christmas tree at R.T. Jones Library in Canton and next month we will be singing at a senior center. For additional information, please contact Ruth Clark, President of the BSSL, at [email protected]. Cherokee Humane Society 11th Annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction November 7th, 6:30 to 9:30pm at The Terrace at BridgeMill Proceeds benefit our four legged friends Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at the Cherokee Humane Society Thrift Store at 5900 Bells Ferry Road or on the website at www.cchumanesociety.org. The Cherokee Humane Society, one of the oldest humane societies in Georgia, has been rescuing abandoned, homeless and shelter animals for almost 40 years. Last year it adopted over 1,340 animals and is working to exceed this number in 2015. But needs your help! “We cannot do it without funds,” states Ottis Moore, General Manager of the Cherokee Humane Society. “Our Annual Auction is a big part of our efforts. BridgeMill residents and Club Members are regular donors to our Thrift Store. They bring in many items which we are able for resell and more importantly, many have adopted pets from us. We have soft spot for the residents of BridgeMill. They are well known for their large hearts and generosity towards animals. We hope to see many of our friends at this year’s fund raiser. It promises to be fun and goes for a howling good cause.“ Join us for “PAWS” and enjoy a fun evening for a good cause. 30 Visit the Service League website at www.bssl.org BridgeMill Community Association Please be mindful and reduce your speed while driving in the neighborhood. It is getting closer to the time of the year for icy conditions and moderating your speed to be cautious in areas of less traction is always good practice. Please make sure to report any accidents or obstructions in the road to prevent a buildup in traffic both in and outside of the neighborhood.
