Dilate the Batman logo by a scale factor of 2 around the
Batman Logo Dilation Project
Name: __________________________
Dilate the Batman logo by a scale factor of 2 around the center of dilation indicated on the grid.
Use the points on the logo as reference points to dilate. You may add more reference points for a more accurate
dilation. Be as meticulous, precise and as alert to detail as you can.
You may use the following to complete the dilation and answer the questions:
 Ruler
 Patty Paper
 Protractor
Suggestion: Lightly sketch the dilated logo as you progress so you can see it begin forming shape.
After you’ve dilated the Batman logo answer the following questions:
1. Describe what happened to the Batman logo after the dilation.
2. There are eleven angles than you could compare between the pre-image and image. Using patty paper, explore
the relationship of a few of these angles. What can you conclude?
3. Using a protractor measure the corresponding angles you see below and record their measurements.
Angle marked with the single congruence marking:
Pre-image: ___________ Image: __________
Angle marked with the double congruence marking:
Pre-image: ___________ Image: __________
4. How accurate is your dilated figure? How do you know?
5. Using patty paper investigate the distance that you see below; between the ears to the bottom of the logo.
What can you conclude about the distance when you compare it between the pre-image and image?
6. True/False: The pre-image logo is congruent to the image logo. ______________
7. If you chose “True” for number 6, are you confident with that answer?
8. If you chose “False” for number 6, what do we call these two shapes if they aren’t congruent? _______________
9. Comparing the dimensions of the dilated logos what is the ratio of pre-image to image? _______________
10. We know a few things about ratios and scale factors. If we wanted to size this Batman logo to fit a future
billboard for the City of Salisbury, what scale factor do you suggest we use? _______________
