Tuesday, April 7, 2015 - Hope Lutheran Christian
“monday” note
April 7th, 2015
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today, I would like to share a slightly adapted and
extended version of a devotion by Max Lucado.
Take this quiz. Name the five wealthiest men in the
world. Name the last four Stanley Cup Champions.
Name three people who’ve won the Nobel Prize.
How about the last two Oscar winners for best
picture? How’d you do? I didn’t do well either.
Surprising how quickly we forget, isn’t it? And what
I’ve mentioned are no second-rate achievements.
These are the best in their fields.
Here’s another quiz. See how you do on this one.
Think of three people you enjoy spending time with.
Name ten people who’ve taught you something
worthwhile. Name five friends who’ve helped you
in a difficult time.
List a few teachers who aided your journey through
high school. Easier? It was for me, too.
The lesson? The people who make a difference are
not the ones with the most credentials, but the ones
with the most concern.
God was concerned for you. He was so concerned
that He sacrificed His own Son just so He could be
with you.
What love and grace! Share this great Easter message
with everyone around you. And most of all, don’t
forget it.
In our Resurrected Saviour,
Luke Adam
High School Principal

responsible for picking up your meat on Wednesday, April 15th between noon and
7pm at the Meridian Meats on Oxford Connector.) Payment is by cash or cheque and

Silent Auction – April 11th
The 3rd Annual Silent Auction is this Saturday, April 11th! Don't miss out on a fun evening of
bidding and fellowship. Tickets are $30.00 each or $210.00 for a table of 8. Tickets can be
purchased at both campus offices and will also be available after both church services on April 5th.
Your ticket includes appetizers, desserts, drinks and entertainment by local Christian singer, Shylo
Sharity. Live Auction items include reserved parking spots at the York street campus for an entire
year, front row seats to Annie and the Christmas concert, a Vancouver Police Department ride
along and a sailing excursion!!
Parent Volunteer Opportunity
Do you have time to stop by a few local businesses while you are out and about? If so, you could
be earning Parent Volunteer Hours! The Silent Auction Committee sent out letters requesting
donations from local businesses and is looking for support in
following up with the businesses. All it takes is a few minutes
to stop in, ask if the business received the letter, and if they
have an item or would like to attend the auction.
Business locations are separated into geographical areas to
avoid chasing all around the city. Please contact the Silent
Auction Committee at [email protected] to see if
there are locations in your area.
Hope Lutheran Youth Fundraiser
Hope Lutheran youth are selling Power Cards (discount cards) that are good for 17
different restaurants and services. The cards cost $25 each (or four for $75) and the
discounts on the cards are good once per day for an entire year! Contact Marcus
Todd at [email protected] for more information.
Parent Satisfaction Survey
Please watch for a Parent Satisfaction Survey that will be sent out electronically next
week. Feedback from our families is invaluable as we reflect on our school's
strengths as well as areas where improvements could be made. We encourage all
parents to participate in taking some time to fill it out next week.
Yearbook
The deadline to order yearbooks has now passed. If you are unsure whether or not
you have ordered a yearbook, please contact Miss Tisdale ([email protected]).
To ensure the best coverage of the year, there is now an image sharing website where you can
upload photographs directly to Hope's yearbook website: https://images.jostens.com/. The User
ID is 401853940. This is a secure site and only Hope yearbook students will have access to the
photos. Contact Miss Tisdle with any questions or concerns at [email protected].
Holy Land Tour – Spring Break 2016
A tour of the Holy Land is arranged for March 13th - 21st, 2016 and is being offered to Lutheran
teachers, and school families. Ian Adnams is the tour guide and with someone as knowledgeable
as him it is bound to make this Holy Land tour a life changing experience. Ian is working
with Indus Travels which arranges for thousands of Christians to visit The Holy Land each year.
The tour includes:
 biblical and historical sites such as Nazareth, Bethlehem, Capernaum, the Galilee,
Jerusalem, Masada, and Caesarea;
 visits to Lutheran Schools where Palestinian Christians and Muslims study together;
 the Holocaust History Museum;
 an opportunity to hear from a Lutheran Palestinian leader who is working to prepare
future Christian leaders
and much more.
It's the kind of tour that will touch on subjects from ancient history to current events and
everything in between!
The itinerary and all the information is gathered at http://visittheholyland.ca/tours-2/lutheranteachers-2016/.
Space is limited so if you are interested in this unique spiritual development opportunity, register
soon. If you have any questions please contact Susan Eisner.

series of books to celebrate her birthday in March.
1st Annual Heritage Fair
Hope Lutheran’s first annual Heritage Fair takes place next Tuesday April 14th,
6:30 – 7:30 pm. The purpose of a Heritage Fair is to encourage students to
develop an increased awareness and interest in Canadian history and heritage. It is
similar to a science fair model, but asks students to create a project about Canadian heritage,
history, culture, or geography. Students are able to research any aspect of Canadian history and
heritage (a list of possible topics will be provided) and to present the results of their efforts using
any medium of their choice. There are lots of amazing stories from across Canada as well as from
right here in our own community; the possibilities are endless! Judging of student projects will
take place in the afternoon (during school hours), and we are looking for individuals to judge
student entries. If you are interested please contact Miss Nast [email protected].
Leadership Teams
A variety of leadership teams for Kindergarten to grade 7 students are in place. It
is our prayer that as students lead their peers they will develop leadership skills
and encourage others in using the gifts that God has given to them.

Caption Contest
The Yearbook committee wants you to get as excited as they are about this year's book. That's
why they've created the Caption Contest. Here's how it works:
1. At the beginning of each month, a photograph will be posted in the Monday Note and on a
box in the Commons. On this box, you will also find entry forms.
2. Fill out a form and stick it in the box.
Anyone in the Hope community can enter as many captions as they want. In the interests of
saving paper, we ask that you use as few entry forms as possible. There is room for more than
one caption on the forms.
The winner of last month's caption contest is
Daniel T (gr. 9).
This is an amazing opportunity for EVERYONE
to contribute to the making of the 2014/15
Yearbook!
There are prizes for each month's winner. In
addition, all winners' names will be entered into
a draw at the end of the year for an additional
prize.
Submit your entries

Scholastic Book Fair
Every spring, Hope Lutheran hosts the Scholastic Book Fair.
Hundreds of books are brought into the school. Students have
the opportunity to shop for great books at great prices, and a
few lucky students win contests for free books.
