APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT
Congratulations on taking the first step toward what will be a rewarding summer here at UC Davis Conference Housing
Services. We believe that our student positions offer the opportunity to meet numerous personal challenges and have fun
while doing so!
This application packet provides you with information regarding the selection process. We hope you will benefit from this
experience. While striving to hire the most qualified candidates, we also hope this will be an opportunity for you to gain
more knowledge about the position. It is important that your application covers all of your relevant skills and experiences –
we encourage you to take your time, answering all questions completely and concisely. Remember, this will be the first
impression we have of you as an applicant: the presentation as well as the quality of the information is evaluated. If you do

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Conference Housing Services at the University of California, Davis is:
To generate sufficient revenues to contribute to debt service revenues, thereby providing a means to offset the cost of
housing and food service for academic year residents;
To maintain high standards of excellence in providing quality service to residents and guests, thereby generating
additional business as well as maintaining the integrity of conference rates;
To provide an opportunity for University recruitment of students, faculty, and staff;
To maintain employment of career staff, as well as provide employment opportunities for student staff in
housekeeping, food service, maintenance, and administrative units.

Candidates selected for an interview will be contacted on Friday, April 3, 2015 to go online to schedule an
interview.

Candidates interviewed will receive an e-mail by Friday, April 17, 2015 regarding their selection status. Selection
for positions will be based upon completed applications, interviews, and position availability. We ask that you
respond by Wednesday, April 22, 2015 should you be selected and choose to accept the position.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Conference Housing Services
Guest Services Assistants are classified as Student Assistant III positions in accordance with the Personnel Policies for Staff
Members (PPSM) Appendix 3, Exhibit A, Student Employees. Responsibilities focus on providing all aspects of guest lodging and
event services to summer conference guests, including youths, students and adults. Duties are extremely varied requiring
flexibility regarding work schedules and job responsibilities. Work hours include a combination of day, evening, weekend,
overtime and overnight on-call hours.
Professional Learning Experiences
 Guest Services Assistants receive training on a variety of topics, including customer service, online systems, and teamwork.
 Providing a high level of customer service including daily responsibilities with groups and their needs.
 Prioritizing and independently completing tasks in an autonomous work environment.
 Learning about implementation of and making recommendations regarding systems and procedures.
 Serving as a campus and recruitment representative for individuals staying on campus.
Primary Responsibilities
 Operate conference desks; use conferencing software to perform guest check in and check out; cash collections, control, and
deposit; key control; mail distribution; guest information services; perform a variety of other guest services.
 Operate guest registration areas, which include equipment set up and break down; preparing and posting directional signs;
providing room information; controlling and handing out keys and dining cards and substitute for other student staff members
as needed.
 Perform facility security inspections; maintain accurate financial records; record information in appropriate log books and keep
other detailed records while demonstrating a high customer service attitude and demeanor. Lock and secure desk and
buildings.
 Provide assistance during conference events such as water, ice deliveries and their set up/break down; general clean-up of
inside and outside areas; setting up refreshment locations; performing other duties as assigned.
 Assist campus food service whenever required. This includes, but is not limited to directing traffic, and set up/break down of
catered venue.
 Abide by State Law, University, Student Housing, and Conference Housing policies and regulations including department dress
code.
 Required to attend up to 8 hours of paid orientation and field training class during spring quarter.
 Follow policies and procedures specific to Conference Housing when injuries, policy violations, or facility issues occur to
respective staff and guests (including required incident report documentation).
 Role model appreciation of differences while fostering an inclusive community. Have an understanding of and commitment
towards the UC Davis Principles of Community.
 Option to live in residence halls during the summer conference period; a nominal room and board fee will be charged.
Minimum Qualifications
 Employment is contingent upon maintaining student status.
 MUST possess a current California Driver’s License and participation in the University DMV Pull System.
 Due to business needs this position requires working 30-40 hours per week with occasional overtime.

 Organizational and administrative skills to meet deadlines with attention to accuracy, detail, and timeliness.
 Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with others, and receive direction and feedback from a supervisor.
 Ability to work under demanding circumstances; maintaining composure and diplomacy under pressure.
 Attention to accuracy, detail, and punctuality. Demonstrated responsibility and positive attitude in work setting.
 Work with support staff to meet service commitments to guests.
Work Situations
 Work indoors and outdoors with extreme temperature variations and in all weather conditions.
 Prolonged standing or sitting, up to 8 hours.
 Lift and/or maneuver up to fifty pounds.
 Use of communication devices such as the telephone, pager, and cellular phone.
 Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Position is a mandatory reporter for known or suspected child abuse and requires that a statement acknowledging the requirement to report
child abuse be signed.
