 UAMS Spotlight
Day/Time: Thursday, 4/30 from 1:00 – 2:30p
Location: College of Public Health Room 8/240
Immigration Support Services will address the many questions physicians, researchers, and other professionals have about the rigorous requirements of the
permanent resident green card process. This session will take a more in depth
look into the road to get to the green card and the green card process itself. We
will look at specifics of various green card preference categories and how that
correlates to current world-wide green card availability. We will also address what
this means to the principal applicant as well as to those all-important family
members. In this session we will answer
questions like; What is retrogression?
What timeline should I keep in mind as
my career moves for-ward? And what are
the new rules about H-4 work authorization?
Immigration Support Services is one of
UAMS’s approved law firms that provides
immigration case services to foreign nationals and departments as needed. They have completed nearly 15,000 employmentbased petitions for over 1000 companies, universities, medical facilities and organizations across the United States.

This is a reminder for those of you making international travel plans in the next few
weeks and months. It is CRITICAL and IMPERATIVE that you have valid documentation to
re-enter the U.S. after traveling abroad. Before leaving, be sure you have a valid UAMS
visa stamp in your passport OR a current Advance Parole document, AND a current Employer Verification Letter from our office. Without the above documentation, you will not
be allowed to re-enter the U.S. regardless of what reasoning you may give the USCIS immigration/DHS border patrol agent.
To request a travel packet for visa stamping abroad, please complete our online re-quest
form found at http://hr.uams.edu/other/work-life-balance/immigration/requestdocuments/.
To request an Employer Verification Letter (EVL), please complete the online request
from found at http://hr.uams.edu/other/work-life-balance/immigration/requestdocuments/. In order to provide you a current EVL for your travel, all EVL requests should
be made 2-3 weeks prior to your departure date.
If you have any questions regarding upcoming travel and what documents may be needed, please don’t hesitate to contact Lisa Gaddy at [email protected].

HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL
PARK
Did you know
that Arkansas
has 52 state
parks? Find
them here!
Hot Springs (located approximately 58 miles from Little Rock), was named just for
that, its naturally hot water springs. In the early years, Native Americans went to
one of the springs for its healing properties; the city is home to several natural
“hot springs” which are located throughout the city. Hot Springs, Arkansas is located in the Ouachita Mountains and is the oldest Federal Reserve in the United
States. There is so much to do in Hot Springs. Feeling a little stressed? You
can have a hot bath in one of the many bathhouses on Bathhouse Row with naturally hot water furnished from one of the springs, followed by a soothing full
body massage. There are hiking trails with lots of beautiful sites if you just want
to de-stress with a peaceful walk. If you like to shop, Central Avenue is the place
to be. You can tour the city in a boat on wheels that makes its way to one of several lakes located in or near the outskirts of Hot Springs. The many sites to see
in Hot Springs include Lookout Tower, Sky Bridge, a Gangster Museum
(gangsters used to frequent Hot Springs in the early 1900s); Arkansas Alligator
Farm and Petting Zoo; Garvin Woodland Gardens (which is run by University of
Arkansas landscape architecture department); Oakland Park (horse racing) and,
my favorite, Magic Springs and Crystal Falls, a theme park with amusement
rides, a water park and concerts. At Magic Springs, one can buy a one day pass
or a season pass to enjoy all season long. There are hotels, campsites, cabins
where one can spend the night and you can even go horseback riding and fish
from your back porch if you
stay at Panther Valley
Ranch. Restaurants,
Shows, Flea Markets, whatever you’re in the mood for,
Hot Springs has it. Visit Hot
Springs, Arkansas, only 45
minutes away by car.
