Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS): Integrating Behavior and Academic Factors to Provide Differentiated Supports Across Tiers Presented by Dr. George M. Batsche Monday, June 8, 2015 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Registration Deadline- Monday, June 1) Crowne Plaza 3000 South Dirksen Parkway - Springfield, IL. 62703 ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: This workshop will focus on how to use a MTSS to integrate behavior and academic factors in the development and delivery of high quality instruction and intervention. The differentiation of all instruction and intervention both within and across the tiers must be integrated in order to ensure high levels of student performance in general education. High levels of student performance is a combination of effective instructional practices, planned behavior supports, AND student engagement in the academic learning environment. The delivery of instruction and intervetions is most effective when that delivery system models a MTSS. ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Dr. George M. Batsche is currently Professor and Director of the Institute for School Reform and Coordinator of Graduate Programs in School Psychology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. He is Director of the Florida Statewide Problem-Solving/Response to Intervention, the Florida Statewide Problem-Solving/RtI Technology/UDL, the Differentiated Accountability/School Improvement, HIV/AIDS Education and the Student Support Services projects for the Florida Department of Education. Currently, he is Vice-Chair of the Professional Advisory Board for the National Center For Learning Disabilities (NCLD). Dr. Batsche co-directs the Florida Multi-tiered System of Supports statewide project with Dr. Don Kincaid of the Florida Positive Behavior Supports Project. The Florida MTSS Project was instrumental in supporting the implementation of the new Florida Standards with a particular focus on the integration of academics and behavior (student engagement). Drs. Batsche and Kincaid recently received the SAMHSA Project AWARE grant for the state of Florida. In the past 25 years, Dr. Batsche has managed more than $90 million dollars in grants from the U.S. Department of Education, Florida Department of Education, Centers for Disease Control, SAMHSA, Race to the Top and private foundations. The majority of his work has focused on systemic district and statewide school reform and improvement initiatives with an emphasis on improving the performance of students with disabilities and at-risk populations. Dr. Batsche’s experience includes work as a university professor and researcher, school psychologist, district-level administrator, building principal and consultant to school districts and state agencies regarding implementation of problemsolving/response to intervention. In the past 8 years Dr. Batsche co-authored of the book, Response to Intervention: Policy Considerations and Implementation), and has authored or co-authored articles and book chapters in publications such as Assessment for Effective Intervention, Learning Disabilities: A Multidisciplinary Journal, The Handbook of Response to Intervention: The Science and Practice of Assessment and Intervention The Handbook of Research and Practice for Effective Inclusive Schools and the forthcoming book Multi-tiered System of Supports: Integrating Academic RtI and School-wide PBIS from Guilford Press). Dr. Batsche is a certified school psychologist, licensed clinical psychologist, and a certified school administrator.
