Minutes from Meeting
April 14, 2015
Registration and refreshments began at 7:30 a.m. in the PB&J lounge. This month’s meeting was sponsored by itSavvy
and Squirrels.
The meeting began at 9:02 a.m.
Laurie Switzer, PreK-16 Outreach & Special Projects Coordinator, welcomed the group and spoke briefly on the activities
coming up for the Education Department. She introduced new attendees and guests; reminded everyone of the
program to secure graduate credit with perfect attendance at all Advisory Council meetings and explored ways to
communicate within schools and districts.
Jennette Kane, Advisory Council Steering Committee Chair conducted the business portion of the meeting. The minutes
of the March 3, 2015 meeting were approved. Steering Committee members with expiring terms were recognized and
presented with thank you gifts:
Jeremy Shorr, Supervisor of Instructional Technology. Mentor Public Schools.
Renee Yoder-Elias, Director of Professional Development Services. Ashland University.
Jennette Kane, Supervisor of Technology, Orange City Schools, was presented with the 2015 Betty Cope Award for
outstanding achievement and dedication to Advisory Council.
Laurie Switzer presented the “Top 10 Ideas to Present to the Educators you Represent”:
10. The 2015 WVIZ/PBS Auction
9. Advisory Council meeting dates for the 2015-2016 school year.
8. Fair on the Square
7. Distance Learning programs including a summer workshop in August.
6. Programs from Online education
5. Summer toy workshop for K-6 teachers with Science responsibilities
4. Amazing Technology Race summer workshop and conference with John Chin via Skype
3. iCoach Professional Learning
2. ideastream Kids Day. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
1. Distribute “Connections” newsletter digitally to all educators in your schools
The 2015 Innovative Educators were introduced and recognized:
Stacy Aker. Technology Teacher (Grades 5-8). Columbia Local Schools.
Amy Roediger. Chemistry Teacher. Mentor High School.
STEM Elementary Team. Pleasant Valley Elementary School. Parma City Schools.
After a short break, the Innovative Educators presentations followed. Each winner presented for 15 minutes and
followed with Q & A.
The meeting concluded at 11:20 a.m.
