Untitled - Innovative Sweden Jakarta 2014
I am very proud to welcome you to the 2015 Indonesia-Sweden Infrastructure Forum. The aim of this knowledge exchange seminar is to tackle two global and universal challenges related to urban infrastructure: traffic safety and sustainable and smart urban development. Together with Business Sweden, we have invited two of our country’s most knowledgeable experts within these two areas to share some of the Swedish experiences. Andreas Gyllenhammar is the Chief Sustainability Officer at Sweco, who holds a PhD in Environmental Analysis. He has a vision, “In the smart city everything communicates, not just people”. He is also part of the Global Working Group on Smart City standards and in this forum Andreas will share ideas on how information and communication technologies can contribute to greener and more energy efficient cities. Matts-Åke Belin is the Traffic Safety Strategist at the Swedish Transport Administration. He will tell us more about Vision Zero, the Swedish approach to road safety. It can be summarised in one sentence: no loss of life is acceptable and transportation policy needs to be based on the simple fact that we are human and make mistakes. This initiative, questioned while launched in Sweden almost 20 years ago, is now influencing the traffic safety policies in numerous countries around the world. In addition, our Swedish partner companies will present their innovations and solutions for safer roads as well as smarter and greener cities. Together with our key Indonesian counterparts and speakers from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Public Works, Jakarta City Government as well as CSID UI and ITB Smart City, we hope this forum will lead to further collaboration between Indonesian and Swedish stakeholders. We will need to work together to meet the growing needs for safer, more connected and greener infrastructure solutions. I look forward to fruitful discussions and even stronger relations between our two countries in meeting the challenges of making our cities a better place to live. Matts-Åke Belin has been one of the key architects of this initiative and is currently responsible for the development of the Vision Zero Academy – a new international platform for safety innovations. Outside Sweden, Vision Zero has been adopted several cities in the USA, incl. New York City, and currently discussions are ongoing to implement it in India.
