About the Conference
The third national conference in finance has got its roots from previous conferences
in the area of finance organized in 2013 on Emerging Issues in Indian Financial
Markets and 2011 on Contemporary Issues in Corporate Finance.
FINCON 2015: Financial Markets and Economic Development aims to bring
together leading academic scientists, researchers and practitioners to exchange and
share their experiences and research results about various aspects of financial markets.
The global financial crisis affected virtually every economy in the world. India was
able to recover from the crisis much sooner than other economies. In the crisis year of
2008-09, growth dropped to 6.7 per cent, but we recovered thereafter. In fact, in the
two years after the crisis, 2008-09 and 2009-10, growth averaged 9.0 per cent which
compares favourably with the average growth of 9.5 per cent in the three years before
the crisis. However, 2011-12, growth moderated to 6.2 per cent. The Gross Domestic
Product (GDP) in India expanded 5.70 percent in the second quarter of 2014. Inflation
has remained stubbornly high in last one year. Interest rates in all spectrums have risen.
Rupee has depreciated considerably. Increasing fiscal deficit is also a problem.
A number of reforms have taken place in the Indian economy for achieving fast track
growth of the financial markets which include Companies Act 2013, financial
inclusion, BASEL III implementation, IFRS, financial engineering, corporate social
responsibility. Effective governance and sustainability have become important issues
for governments, organizations, business leaders, investors, consumers, and many
other stakeholders. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are engines for growth and
employment, and are considered vital to the sustainability of economic development.
To make India a strong global financial architecture, it must be supported by universal
adoption and implementation of clear, consistent, and relevant high-quality standards
which are sustainable.
All these developments have posed issues, challenges and serious concerns amongst
policymakers, markets, analysts, academia and practitioners to come up with solutions
and reforms to face such crisis in future.
This conference intends to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to present
and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, issues and challenges encountered and
the solutions adopted in the field of financial markets through research papers and case
studies. We would encourage submissions of high quality manuscripts that may leave
an impact upon academia, corporates, practitioners and society.
